one last comment: It's VERY strange that your doctor didn't tell you he performed a open surgery BEFORE you leave the hospital, and you realise that only at home...
Congratulations for your post and for the updates of it!
I'm a doctor, and pratice that kind of surgery, must say that it's essential to rest at home (most of time lying at bed) and use some kind of ice up to the incisions (20 mins every 6 hours) for at least the first 3 days after the surgery . It helps to keep the pain down and reduce the chaces of recurrence and other problems like seromas and hematomas.
Another comments, sometimes it's possible to perform laparoscopic method on huge hernias
Thanks for posting. I had bilateral laproscopic repair done 72 hrs ago. Stayed on back since discharge minimal pain or meds. Swollen bruised nuts, but taking it easy.
Just got the surgery yesterday. I'm in pain, but doing good. Great job putting out this video, I think a lot of people are scared about this surgery (I know I was), but even only one day later, I'm glad I did it.
I just had the surgery yesterday and I wish I had the results you did! My pain is very high. I went into the surgery with the attitude that I've birthed 3 children and therefore I wasn't very worried. I have been on my back for two full days now unable to get up for washroom breaks without extreme pain. The doctor was unable to visit me after the surgery, but I think from viewing other similar surgeries, he did cut through the muscle. The Percocet is only making me sleep but not taking the pa
No problem! I come to find out later..... After I got to take my bandages off that I actually had to have OPEN surgery, because the hernias were so large!! Day two was ok except I did go camping and we had a 4 hour drive to get to where we were going. I would tell you that sitting that long is NOT a good idea because you get seriously stiff and don't want to move because it HURTS!! I would also HIGHLY recommend that you use constant Ice to the nether regions! I think that would have helped!!

I am in the most pain I've ever been in. Two days later. Huge mistake!!! Wish I'd have gone on living with the hernias. Absolutely terrible.

How soon did you go back to your normal activities after your bilateral hernia surgery? (like work, sports & etc.)

I experienced slight pain at the incision sites after the surgery. No urination pain and no urinary catheter placed.

What pain you experienced after the surgery? Do you feel pain when urinating and did they put a catheter to you?

jml7024 thanks for the info!
It's been 4 days already after my bilateral inguinal hernia open surgery.
I still have my pubic area and scrotum swollen.
Should I be worried?
