This video is rather misleading. Though the people of Northern Ireland have the right to be British or Irish or both, the fact is that a majority of the people of Northern Ireland do not want to join the Republic. A Life and Times survey earlier this year showed that 52% of Catholics and 90% of Protestants in Northern Ireland prefer remaining part of the UK. For economic reasons mainly, the Northern Irish poeple wish more "freedom" from influence of the Irish government than that of the UK.
@2491cc, so you think i have a thick head? lol, well I am not doing to bad as a computer programmer, Now, i think you better take a rest for a year or two and watch exactly what happens in the North of OUR COUNTRY, you will be in for a great shock, maybe it will be 1690 reversed!, thats why MI5/6 are talking to C.I.R.A.
@2491cc Yes, That is correct, it means Northern Ireland IS NOT A PART OF THE UNITED KINGDOM, nor Great Britain ,but others will deem to disagree, So to them i will say, Please read it without being bitter, its easy to read "All after the word Britain", speaks for itself.
@itsjustmacker Get it into your thick skull that Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. Put it whatever way you want, but it won't change the political position of Northern Ireland.
ireland is a British isle.. why cant they be part of the uk.... the uk is not england but a union of multiple nations with similar cultures, economies, and languages...
ireland needs the uk and the uk needs ireland... and all the separation just makes angst and bloodshed...
@GDYP how can Ireland be a british Isle?, Ireland has nothing to do with Britain, albeit, those who want to stay under the British flag in some Northern parts of our Island, It is seperated from UK by Irish Sea.
@itsjustmacker all islands in that area are the British isles.. British does not mean english.. most people in the British isles are NOT english. And Ireland is creating is only creat infact ing problems with the uk and not trying to compromise and try to stop the violence the ira is STILL committing. and i've been to both countries for at least a month and i kno people in both places and i've deduced my opinion off of that.
@GDYP " i've been to both countries for at least a month" Do you really think you know enough after a month? Get the fuck outa here and do some research.
@philyfree ive done alot of research, but sometimes to judge a situation u need an outsider, not some heated hating raving lunatic who wants to kill his fellow man
@GDYP Ireland is not part of the uk and never will be it has a right to rule itself and the IRA's aims are perfectly legitimate, the uk got to the size it is by stomping over Scotland and Wales and taking up their resources. By doing what the uk did they created bloodshed and angst, so seperation is the perfect answer to the problem.
@GDYP Scotland's economy is no where near similar to England's as all there resources were robbed. If you'd take the time to look at the written Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Manx and Cornish laguages you'll see they in no way comparable to the English language. The Republic of Ireland experienced an economic boom a while after independence and is one of the richest places in the world, so how the hell do we 'need' the UK. The UK created bloodshed and angst by stomping over other nations.
@GDYP because ireland has its own culture and people, we are,and have always wanted to be soverign to our own country, not under the flag of a foreign monarch! The attrocities committed by the british when they ruled ireland against the will of the people are infinite, also, look at scotland,we they joined the U.K,look what happened, their culture and language were destroyed by the crown,Ireland is Irish, not british.
@GDYP Ireland is not a British Isle, it is quite a distance across the Irish sea until you reach Ireland, Ireland is a large enough island to be classed as it's own island rather than an island of Britain, I mean look at a map of the world and look at Ireland and Britain, Ireland's size isn't that far off Britain's in the grand scheme of things!
Ireland has it's own indendent culture completely different to that of Britain, Ireland has it's own economy different to Britain.
Yes Ireland needs the UK, the UK is like Ireland's biggest trading partner, and Ireland is the UK's fifth largest trading partner, Britain trades more with Ireland than China and Brazil put together! And you've got it wrong with the separation causing the angst and bloodshed, it is the union with Great Britain that is causing all the angst and bloodshed in Northern Ireland, and when Ireland as a whole was occupied by British Army troops (or united as you may like to call it, lol) ...
.... They had to rid the country of the British Army by War, after much war, they finally declared their independence from Britain, and left the commenwealth, thus cutting off all ties and links with Britain!
Effectively, Ireland brought the British Empire to it's knees and made a laughing stock of Britain by becoming completelty independent and thus breaking up the Union, and bringing about the fall of what was the United Kingdom!
Like Obama gives a shit. All this is for nothing now the Irish have voted for an EU superstate. 100 years of independence flush away. It looks like it was all a waste of time.
@DickChambers69 Nothing is a waste of time my friend, Patience is a virtue, ask youself this question, How Dis Obama get The Nobel Peace Prize For Sending MORE TROOPS TO The Middle East!!!!., makes you wonder, Does it not?.
This is a silly video, not bad in its purpose. What I think this... All I have for what I think is what I've read in books and a long conversation with an expat N. Irishman from Belfast from Kansas City to Las Vegas.
N. Ireland will probably end up being its own country if and after Scotland does. Reunification seems unlikely due to the simple fact that a majority of N Irish don't want it. Either way, I support whatever the majority 50.1% of the population, think is right for their nation.
I agree with the 50.1%, the major problem is, our country is not divided, Our People are, Ireland is an Island, as for Ulster becoming independent!, that will never happen, it would cause more major bombings of a nature unseen on the island of Ireland. I have nothing against normal Protestant People, to many drug barons etc, they need to be eradicated.
an independent Northern Ireland is not going to happen, within a few years the majority of the population will be catholic, there are already more catholics there but they are not at voting age yet
Ireland will be a free independent nation in the future... The British have basicially already said it. All thats going on in the North at the moment are the gradual stepping stones towards this majetic day. You just cant divide a nation, be responsible for an accountable amount of deaths and expect people to accept it as Emperial conquests. Murder is murder...
But I do pray for peace for Ireland, without sectarianism and discrimination.
People born in Northern Ireland have the right to choose what nationality they want, Irish or British, I have two passports, one Irish and one British, the Irish one was because of my mothers roots in the republic and the British one is becasue of where I live now.
Hi WARISHELL09, your name speaks of the truth, war is always hell ,I have not said people in Ulster dont have the right to choose, i just said, it would be better for them to have an Irish Passport, I dont see the need for two passports?, firstly its a waste of money, and secondly, maybe your job requires you to have a british passport, I dont know and im sure its none of my business. as you have stated and i agree with you, People in Ulster have the choice of either passport.
But if everyone here agreed to have an Irish passport then they would also accept a united Ireland, we know that this isnt going to be the case as a lot of people see themselves as British living on British soil, I class myself as Northern Irish, its the only nationality I ever say when i'm asked, I guess the British passport is because I feel that the longer this place remains British then the longer the state of NI can exist, I would love to see an independant NI but I know its just a dream.
Firstly to 24582641, the british soldier!, Watch and learn my friend, you do not know what happens behind clossed doors, PEACE TO YOU. Secondly to hgdjhjfjg, read my profile about Gerry,s speach in 1984, then speak!. Peace to You. When Ireland is One Nation and all who live within that Island shall then live in Peace
No, its far from Racial, Its the only way forward for peace, and then Ulster will have its remaing 3 counties which are in eire, The only way for peace is the unification of Ireland, Ulster protestant people know this is now on the cards, that is why they are applying for Irish citizenship and passports
Merci Mags, Yes i know exactly what you mean!!!, I have them moving like that to add a little humour to a stark and real situation, If the people of Ulster are not informed as to what is happening and there rights , even before the Good Friday Agreement, then they can never make a choice for themselves, other organisations make the choices for them, Thousands of ordinary Ulster Protestants have got Irish Passports, thus they are legal Irish Citizens.
hi mags, Oooooooooops, just seen your post, they way i have them moving they could be incognito, but i agree, tutus would be more appropiate!!!!!!!!!!!.
