I'm planning on buying spare brake pads for my '09 GF Tassajara with Shimano M486, hydraulic disc, 160mm CenterLock rotors and the stock pads are Shimano resin B01S. There is a 1st version, as well as a 2nd version. Can someone please tell me what the differences are between the two?
@oragiaxilo is that all? i just bought the same bike and when riding with my friends thats all you hear, it is winter though. i hear it should go away with time anyway
The brake pad is polluted by brake oil, it is the reason why the brake pad making noise when you press the brake lever down. Clean all the Brake Pad & Disc by alcohol.
(Someone have post a method that Release 2 bolt on the caliper by 45 degree with allen key can stop the leaking, don't make it tight further but only release! I will try and keep you post. )
Sopunds Like the pads and brakes need bedding in i was riding down my strret stopping and skidding just putting the brakes under heat and trying to wear the pads a bit. After that twas fine no squeal until you rode it in the wet.
I have the same bike - without the squeal, but before I installed the wheels the first time I cleaned the rotors with solvent. The brakes work very well. How to fix the noise? Clean the rotors, rub the pads on some fine wet and dry paper on a flat surface. Or ride it down a long steep hill. Or replace the pads. Avids are not immune to squeal, no disk brakes are just search YouTube for "loud Avid Elixir Brakes"
So many people have the same problem with those shimano brakes. i've got the same bike and am just about to have my brakes replaced with a juicy 3 system. It seems to solve the problem.
you know shit 'bout bikes, first of all make sure that the lines are not leaking, second take the pads off and scrub them with a file, third take some alcohol or any oil dissolvent and the clean the discs.
it makes noise because the br- m 485 from shimano are shit. i have got the same bike but i bought the avid juicy 3 brake system and now i haven't got any problems :]
My aspect had the same issue, I got them serviced by my local bike shop but had no difference. I search online and found that shimano had a recall on these brakes. They either leaked fluid or had fluid on the pads during assembly. The kind people at Shimano replaced my brakes with new units.
yah shimana has tons of technical problems but they are aware and replace the broken or defected parts free of charge thats why i chose to go with them when i built my scratch built toyota bike plus toyota is having there own issues so i represented them lol
they're noisy because they can t brake well - trying to hold disc but slipping away , try to do about 200km and there will be no problem anymore - discs need to be used for some time to match to the brakes .

Disc brakes do sound like that when they are cold or new, after riding for a while you will notice that sound wears off.

i have got the same breaks but i have no problem as of now. You just need to reinstall the break properly and be focus on the alignment of the pad.
