  • Man.

  • An absolutely brilliant !

  • shame on u for the bad language....

  • senile! hahahaah

  • All you morons here that have no simple respect to the founder of what Singapore is today, please shut the hell up. He is the reason why Singapore can be so successful today and why you Singaporeans keyboard warriors have your access to luxurious things. Be appreciative or at least some respect damn it. Losers.

  • @9f0rLive I absolutely agree with u. But this is reality. No matter how successful a country is or how good a leader is, there will be a group of people who will pick faults on others. They don't know they are living in one of the best places in the world . Maybe if they visited other countries and look at the sufferings of other people , they would not know how fortunate we are as Singaporeans. Just remember this people : THERE IS NO PERFECT PLACE ON EARTH ,SO BE CONTENT WITH WHAT U HAVE!

  • if i were the interviewer i would ask lky why pap redraws the electoral boundaries willy nilly ie gerry meandering which is illegal in other countries.after 2011 election my friend's block was re assigned from geylang serai to macpherson. a blatant attempt to carve up opposition support.

Lets all pay Mr Lee Kwan Yew a tribute here for fathering Singapore and finally retiring from the cabinet in 2011 after decades of contribution!

  • 2 reptilian talking to each other

  • singapore has Mr Lee...what about malaysia?

  • @jeremy7012 Malaysia....... has cheap goods. As long as you have those... petrol, food etc... Singaporeans would go there and spend... don't worry, you'll survive with singaporean money... all's good.

  • @jeremy7012 Mahathir Mohamad. Any more questions?

  • @jeremy7012 hahaah LEE CUNT EWWW? Jjajaajjaa!!

  • All the cheebye ang mohs go press 'like' until top comment make LKY sound like hero. relly dam sad case sia...

  • Nobody can doubt he did something for Singapore, the economical success is obvious over the decades.

  • How can I say something like that? Well, I Live here, and I was born here....

  • Lee is a master of illusions.... you have to be a Singaporean to understand. He sounds good.... but thats the truth... He "Sounds" good.... but he's a dictator, and he's a bully. Singapore may look rich, but the people are not happy. All the money and power is with his family and then his cronies...

  • As a Singaporean, I'd say that Lee Kuan Yew was an incredibly shrewd and effective leader who led the country on a fast track to wealth. But I'll say that he's not the man he once was, and has become the very type of leader he once spoke out against, and is evidence that absolute power changes a person, often not for the better. I still have a great deal of respect for him, but like any other person, he is imperfect, and these imperfections are amplified by the extent of his political influence.

  • this what we call boleh!! someone say he boleh, but until now not yet boleh..nak tahu siapa?? siapa yang cakap wawasan 2020??

  • Singapore is a dictatorship. Stay away if you're smart. This guy is a megalomaniac psychopath.

  • @MichaelWithstand

You idiot, you should come to Singapore to take a look how well run the city is.

  • @nayanaran I have. It is run like a criminal syndicate with the Lee controlling everything from educational institution to police to media to public hospital.

  • @MichaelWithstand

The man made Singapore one of the richest countries in the world - definitely richer than the one you reside in - so bugger off.

  • @makpuki99 It sounds and looks(your username) like you're one of those offended by what Lee mentioned about fitting in.

Nazism? Seriously? You're making a fool out of yourself here.

  • This is a kind of President US needs.

  • @docguch US does not need dictators.

  • @commz59 and avizliran - Please come and take him. Singaporeans have had enough !

  • wish we had him in france instead of mitterand chirac and other funny fuckers...

Singapore's societyis civilised and disciplined, France's one is decadent and lenient on everything.

We should have an efficient police which whips thugs in public on the street, death penalty for drug traffickers and muderers, kidnappers, and so on, andmaybe one day become the country we once were...

  • @ngai1842 you are not a white person. no westerner likes dictators.

  • @xterminator069

    who knows what i am...

yet this guy is not a dictator, he is an enlightened despot...

  • @ngai1842 no. this guy is a piece of filth. he is evil not enlightened.

  • @ngai1842 He is not an enlightened person. He is a regressed person. He is cruel and evil.

  • @xterminator069

for me the word dictator does not mean something automatically bad, just means something else than democracy... but a dictator can be good, when wise... Didn't Aristotle say democracy is the gvt by the foolish masses and oligarchy by the few educated?... I know this assumption sounds kind of arrogant, but it is at least partly true if you look at it closely...

  • @ngai1842 no Aristotle is a prick just like this fool. you can't quote someone who obviously have a conflict of interest . if i sell iphone of course i am going to bash andriod.

  • Lee Kuan Yew's brilliant mind with the ability to analyse issues and present them in a down to earth language make it easy to undertand and follow the reasonings.

  • Comment removed

  • Lee Kuan Yew made singapore to what it is today, but policies that work 30 years ago does not work in today's world, much have changed, PAP has not. PAP is still the best choice for Government, but if they do not change, Singapore WILL look else where, gratitude does not mean servitude.

  • Last time our fathers can draw CPF at 55. Later say 55 retire too young change to 60++ Then afraid ppl old senile $ can get cheat so also want control. Later say people sell flats afraid go gamble (IR) and so increase levy. HDB flats getting higher, we need to pay bank interest + loan. Was hoping old liao can enjoy if got cpf, now hope also burst liao. Really don't know how to breath liao. Please have mercy on us all. Thank you. Thank you. Not all ppl got Ah-pa house to squeeze in. Thank Thank.

  • Singapore's progress is not unique. The countries in East Asia all made tremendous progress eg Japan, South Korea, Taiwan & Hong Kong. China after the demise of the great helmsman too made tremendous progress in just 30 years.

  • As a Singaporean, I look up to with utmost respect..the change in Singapore is so significant that nobody can deny, however, it is my opinion that he has great insights, but may not be able to lead so lead on a larger scale platform as Singaporeans are generally "law-abiding" were he to lead the UN, I'm afraid that many would question him. Nonetheless, he IS the father of Singapore, and I fear the day when the new generation takes over, a generation which may not be as capable as he.

  • @janusmycroft

Singapore didn't use to be law-abiding. But it changed within just 2 generations, something that countries even after hundreds of years could not achieve.

  • He is for the higher income earners and he don't care what people think. That's from his own mouth. The middle n low income suckers in Singapore are too dumb to know that they have been taken for a ride all these decades. When will the Singaporeans wake up!

  • Please die soon. Pleeeeeeeeease. That'll be the best thing you can do for Singapore!

  • @wooots77

What an idiotic post! C'mon give him credit for what he has done to develop Singapore to what it is today.

  • I like Mr Lee kuan Yew. But i don't like all the new money losing policies and we singaporeans got to made the scapegoats. Like and 'respect out of gratitude' for this great leader is one matter but to vote wisely is another matter.

  • @wooots77

    You die first.

    I

  • @wooots77

    You die first.

    I

  • @wooots77

    ~words from ultranationalist~

  • Bunch of kids arguing on youtube, if you cannot survive in a changing world and see the bigger picture, then you are probably living for yourself. I rather trust LKY than a prick whining his ass off. Sorry if I offend anyone, please grow up.

  • 34543

  • fuck him!!i cant own a car,i cant get a house,i don have enuf ,money to survive..fuck him!!

  • @aidiero come to Johor, you can buy a house own a car. shop till u drop your feet with the kind of money you have

  • @whotookmynickkokokai u are so true my friend..i went to indonesia for holiday last month,i was a millionaire there!!haha

  • @aidiero haha, well go build your own country

  • Not being apathetic, if not I won't be replying.

Just that I felt that GIC has justified itself with it's investment and account to Singaporean for their investment and the nation interest.

  • In the end, Apathy deserves what it receive.

  • The FACT is that the Singapore Government Investment Corporation (SGIC) is a PRIVATE company using PUBLIC monies.

Is this tolerable in a civilised, first world country.

  • @bremneshatten

LOL Yes Indeed. Please do some check up on how many first world Country is using Public Money for Investment to increase the nation reserve :D

And FYI GIC is doing a good job. They are extremely profitable which means Singapore's Reserve is Growing growing :D

  • @bremneshatten

Wether if it is a pricate company doesn't matter because the purpose is to SERVE Singapore.

  • politics should not be used to gain business advantages. unfortunately, from what i can see, there is a blatant misdealing in this aspect in Singapore. several large pseudo-private firms in Singapore are headed by key political parties or their family members, who are clearly incompetent judging by the losses, yet able to retain their positions. also the fact that these companies are often given huge funding (as mentioned by bremneshatten) with no accountability to the public.

  • @qozzy the only difference between Singapore and other western civilisations is that they dont hide the fact they use political influence for business and personal gain.. President Bush is a mayor stock holder in oil companies so was Dick Cheney.they just lie about it and try to get the attention away from the facts..

Singapore has better healthcare and schools then over 90% of the western world and the highest average income of all of Asia and nr12 in the world. Singapore is the best!!

  • @qozzy no human is god. everyone is bound to make mistakes. even you and i (unless u haven't ever made one)...

  • Lee is not a stateman. His political stance has done the following in Singapore:

    1. Lee owns a PRIVATE company called the "Singapore Government Investment Corporation" which uses PUBLIC taxpayers money. No accountability to parliament, no questions allowed. Where do the profits go?

    2. Lee made his son the Prime Minister.

    3. This same son is also Minister for Finance, who in turn gives daddy Sing$100b to play with in private company (see point 1)

    4. The son's wife controls Temasek Holdings.

  • @bremneshatten

I am sorry I think you didn't get ur facts right.

    1. Lee doesn't OWN GIC, He is merely the chairman of the sovereign fund. The profit of the company goes back to GIC which also translate to Singapore.

    2. Lee doesn't make his son the PM, SM Goh was his appointment.

    3. Again I will like to highlight that the money that GIC used is for investment purposes to improve the state reserve.

In a nutshell, they control the company because they have the brain to do it well

  • @JunLFC

If LKY passes all profits back to the state, why is the GIC registered as a private company?

Private companies make profits for its shareholders. I guess LKY is a shareholder! Not sure about the people of Singapore.

  • @bremneshatten

The shareholders of GIC is Singapore. The profits goes back to Singapore. That's the reason it is call a Sovereign Wealth fund. It's main purpose is to mange SIngapore foreign reserve. MM Lee is merely an employee/ adviser of the company and he doesn't hold any shares of the company.

Once again you state that you "guess" that MM Lee is a shareholder, apparently this is not a fact. I hope this enlighten you :)

  • @JunLFC

If LKY doesnt own the GIC and he uses public (superannuation) monies to fund his investment activities, WHY does he do so with a company which is a private company?

Shouldn't it be accountable to parliament. This is the only civilised course of action.

It is really uncivilised to use PUBLIC monies in a PRIVATE company and not be accountable to the public.

    Why so gong-gong?

  • @bremneshatten

What you are trying to present is that MM Lee Own GIC. Which is not a fact.

GIC is a sovereign wealth fund - Fact

He doesn't use the money for "his investment" - Fact

He use the money for investment for Singapore - Fact

GIC accounts to the public for it's investment ( Annual Report) - Fact

He is investing with GIC because he got Brain.

    Why so gong-gong?

  • @JunLFC yet citizens like us don't benefit from their 'investments' and 'money' ?

  • @CpHelper constructing MRTs, expresswas, roads, parks, lift upgrading programmes and even CPF are the things we take for granted for. where does the money come? other than general taxation, it comes too indirectly from these investments. anyway singapore is a small country so we need investments to protect our national interests!

  • @yaksheng they claim that the GST would help the 'poor'.I observed that it did not help at all and infact more people are becoming 'poorer' !

  • @bremneshatten first to third statement is libelous, don't you know? blatantly untrue.

  • MRS LEE KUAN YEW has passed on.. RIP

  • RIP Mrs Lee Kuan Yew3

  • Lee KY is great but I think Charlie Rose is very impolite and has the fucking attitude when he interviewed this highly regarded man. I don't think Rose is suitable to conduct this kind of high profile interview.

  • @tnlim we forgive him

  • Lee KY is great but I think Charlie Rose is very impolite and has the fucking attitude when he interviewed this highly regarded man. I don't think Rose is suitable to conduct this kind of high profile interview.

  • @tnlim

So perhaps you should interview Lee kwan yew than??

so we can have more reporters sucking his thumb

  • @luv4cash Sorry I'm not qualified either. But neither does Rose.

  • The Associated Press Aug 2010 reported tht Singapore regularly ranks near the top in expatriate quality of life surveys, and the govt expects the economy to grow as much as 15 % this year as trade, finance and tourism boom after the global downturn. Foreigners from developed countries are drawn to jobs in finance, shipping and at corporate regional headquarters.

Far from scaring them off, Singapore's tough law-and-order policies tend to attract many expatriate families n other visitors.

  • he is the best in the world and man of great integrity. Respected by world leaders and its a waste that he only govern a small singapore but glad that we have achieved being voted the 1st in airport, seaport , judiciary, least corrupt police, extraordinary government , education, best equip military in asia, highest saving government , highest GDP, etc . So to achieve so many achievements ,its simply quite impossible for such a small country but we did it , thanks to Mr LEE KUAN YEW!

  • @jacky777able

You must be joking. Lee is a simple crook and thug. The only difference between him and Saddam Hussein is that the USA is still on side.

  • wish he can live till the next millenium. But alas, all things must come to an end - the millenium included.

  • Very good!!!

  • I love and respect MM Lee Kuan Yew. I could just sit for hours and hours listening to him. He is so awesome and his brilliant mind still packs a punch

Hmmm ..We have to clone him!

  • i respect him a lot.

  • Amazing leader. Take him to run the UN so he can make a difference to this world.

  • someone should clone his genes, if they are not already doing it at Astar.

    this dude is a legend.

  • @davyoa you should see his daughter before making that comment.

  • Lee K Yew is the greatest thinker of all times in all aspects of life...modern day Kung Fu Tzi.. I admire and adore him tremendously..Singapore's greatest asset definitely..

  • Lee is one of my favorite men

  • Lee Kuan Yew is one of the very few things about Singapore that make me proud to be Singaporean...

  • very wise man

  • Very clever man.

  • His insights should be required readings for social science class in universities.

  • yes. chinese are the minority in Malaysia. i wasnt talking abt chinese in singapore. i was talking abt the situation in Malaysia. which part did you not understand, Tengku?

  • he looks super old in this video

  • I think he's 86; looks young for his age to me.

  • malays in general are lazy and take and grab all the credit and tax payers money from hard working minority chinese. they are the majority in malaysia and thus control the politics there. it is so unfair to the chinese people there. the minorities have no future and they have to struggle with all the nonsense economic policy which favors the malays EVERY year. all the benefit and privelege go to them. it is the ONLY country in the world that feeds and take care of this LAZY race totally hopeless

  • you kidding? chinese as minority? as if it's not enough the chinese have been here as long as the malays singapore needs to import more of them.

  • It is much easier for the rich and wealthy to migrate to Australia. That is a fact. The same way it is easier for a degree holder to migrate to Australia.

From all this prejudice it's fairly obvious your from Singapore and u probably hate ur own country. Which is typical of a teenage Singaporean citizen.

Who knows more on the quota system? An ignorant Singaporean who doesn't even live in the country? Or someone who actually uses the system?

  • pls do nt jus jump into tis b4 u r clear of the situation. wo384 said it was getting more difficult for the rich n wealthy to migrate to australia. i disagree n said if one is rich enough, there's no difficulty at all.

u know nuts n like to resort to all sorts of assumption abt my details. pathetic n sorry u.

  • u really hav a prob wif understanding. 1st, u said there's a quota then u said tt doesn't mean ALL chinese can't enter msian unis. do u or do u not mean to say the quota applies? u r implying tt a substantial proportion of msian chinese gave up successful applications to msian unis to go overseas. back it up wif proof, else, u r just spouting untruths to support ur baseless argument. as for me, it's not unknown many msian non-bumiputras had to go abroad due to the quota. thus, my case is sound.

  • if one is rich n wealthy, there's no difficulty at all. the restrictions do nt exist. i hav no prob with my understanding. it mus be u whose level of understanding is restricted. if one is rich n wealthy, migration to anywhere is nt a prob. unless u hav a criminal record.

issue is, hw did u arrive at ur point tt the rich n wealthy r not going to be able to migrate to australia as easily as before? ans me tis.

  • wo384.

Read properly, Malaysia2009Boleh did not mention anything about the difficulty with respect to migrating to Australia. So what's your problem?

Most Chinese Malaysians study overeseas due to the quota implemented by the Malaysian government to bumiputras. You don't know your facts well & want to talk big.

You are the one who has not future. You are one who talks with verifying facts. You must be Singaporean. Yes, I am assuming you are one.

  • Import FT, including those from Malaisia.

  • He has and is still doing a great job keeping Singapore relevant. Thats why Singapore is able to attract quality immigrants to settle down. Rich & wealthy people, world over migrates to places of their desire. I wishes Malaysia can one day be where singapore is today.

  • @commz59 easy .. if malaysia is unified again with singapore ... don't ever consider me a fanatic person because this will happen soon

  • @lumianic Are you saying/predicting that Malaysia is/will be unified with Singapore, and that it will be happeniong soon. I didn't and will not say you are a fanatic, but your comments suggest that you are one. Singapore at 45, you are fabulous!

  • @commz59 commz59,it we the chinese immigrants want to establish a second -handed chinese country in the other land of china,we should secure ten things:

We need a large population of global chinese immigrants to build a large country,We need the help from Taiwan,We need support from millionaires from chinese immigrants, establishing effective boundary, changing malaysia into a full republic country, exiling only all the malay's sultans and his decendants from malay soil, reforming the social system

  • @commz59 singapore n malaysia together?? No, no way. we're from diffferent poles! it's like we're spring and they're winter.

    NooooOOOOOO!

  • @WBLITZer How about SG change Malaysia from winter to spring? Singaporean got the brain, and with a brain you are able to do anything than any other brainless people.

  • @commz59 lots of hoe in there too.

  • @commz59 you mean 'quality' immigrants which drain our wages and take jobs away from us ? A lawyer with a PhD from Harvard is replaced by a chef from shanghai. An office worker is replaced by a waiter from Suzhou.Does that make sense ?

  • @CpHelper "Quality" immigrants brings with them wealth, investment and knowledge. They dont drain our wages, they pay us good wages. A lawyer with a PhD fm Harvard can stand up well to any challenges, he need not fear a chef fm Shanghai except of course in the kitchen. If any office worker is replaced by a waiter fm Suzhou, than the waiter must hv a better education and most importantly a much better attitube towards work.

  • @commz59 Immigrants wanna settle down in singapotre because its a Tax Haven, there is relatively no tax bracket. The rich will remain rich and use the poor (Singaporeans).

  • @Malaysia2009 can't be helped, for once singapore is irrelevant by lack of competitiveness, we'll be back to third world status.
