If you go back to Taylor Hicks' win (2005, I think) - the best singer by far was Elliot Yamin. Look at the slow gradual make-over that he went through - the very same people are behind Danny's developing look.

Anybody saying Danny's copying Elliot? No.

FYI -- if you will go back and watch the idol performances still on the ai web site, every time Danny wore a chain. Everytime except one, Come Rain or Shine when he wore a suit. I wholeheartedly agree with you 101gonner. IMHO, I would love it, if David Foster would mentor, if not produce, Danny. I think that David would be absolutely perfect for this, and can't think of anyone more ideally matched. Not only could they do much musically together, but I think they will really like each other and that Danny would be able to trust David and rely on David's imput.

If you listen to his studio sessions, where he had a few more days to heal his voice, and familiarize himself with the song ( don't forget he was fairly sheltered from mainstream music, most of his life ) he nailed every song, every genre and made it distinctively his own. I was blown away by his jazz singing in Come Rain or Come Shine, he has never had a formal singling lesson, unlike some of the others, and should never have been able to do what he did. But he DID it !

Add to that a distinctive voice that you know is him, in a hearbeat, coupled with his non " studied" " cookie cutter " approach to singing ( Blue eyed soul man for sure ) and he is anything BUT boring to listen to. Matter of fact his lack of vocal training and coaching, lets him improvise every time he sings, so that each and every performance is new. I don't tire of listening to this man.

what this video missed, is in the beginning, he said he lost his wife one month before auditioning, it was his last chance to audition, because next year he would have been 29, the cutoff being 28. He said look at where I am now....so I can understand what he said, and it was a very touching and positive moment!
