Unfortunately for Tony, Junior, Eddie, Albert (and father) Moro Maligmat, Killer Joe arrived on the airwaves just months ahead of that 50 foot wave known as The British Invasion and that was "The End" for Rocky Fellers, Ricky Nelson, The Philly groups, about 12,000 surf bands and Gawd knows how many other individual singers and groups of the early 1960's.
"Would you believe" that 4 of these guys were brothers and the 5th was their father? For real. Looking at the photo, the guy in the middle has GOT to be the dad, eh? I turned 16 in April 1963 which was the same month and year that Killer Joe reached #16 on the Billboard 100.
I remember when this song came out (yes, I am a baby boomer). Right before the English invasion, it was a great "cha cha" beat - nice voices and harmonics, great band in the background - a great musical family to listen to. A lot of the GI's would listen to their music in the Pacific.
@scottbaino That is correct, and they are from the Phillipine Islands. I heard that one of the sons may still be touring in Hawaii, but not sure. I was about 16 when this came out. Great song.
This was the era when just about any artist or group (like this Filipino pop and four sons) could have a hit on the charts. What a great time. You'll never see anything like this again from today's stale, staid record industry ...
Heh... somehow I can see any of these boys, now no doubt in late middle age, walking around a Makati "village", saying "I was a STAR in the 60s... a STAR! and now I live in a concrete house with a two-burner stove..."
Slut Marie, always dancin' with that killer Joe. Bet she wants to f*ck him. Whore. But damn, that Joe is a one helluva dancer. He's really got moves. You know what, come to think of it If a slick dude like that wants to bang my gf, then that must really mean she's hot. That makes me feel kinda good. You know what, I'd be kinda glad if he did her. Not like all the time or anything, but maybe like once or twice a month. As long as she lets me have it whenever I want. Yeah, sounds good.
what can I say .A song that will stay in my head for the next 100 years. you dont hear songs like this anymore with a theme beat and humor in a song . a real classic song for all generations to love and sing along to
Seems like it was yesterday I watched them do this song on The Ed Sullivan show, & of course it was love at first sight & sound. I''ve never stopped digging this song. Thanks to the great audio quality, I'm rediscovering how even more beautiful those harmonies riding that groove sound. The piano throws some wicked feels towards the end of the song, & the drummer takes it home with what he does fading out. This baby will always be classic material. Thank you for posting !!
@theyorkshirewhites dude your dumb, first of all these are two completely different songs, second of all even love is strange by mickey and silvia sounds diferent.
@69charger440sixpack You DO not the difference between "your" and "you're", don't you? (one means "the dumbness that is owned by you" and the other means "you are dumb")
@shmuli9 and "you" don;t know that your not suppose to capitalize "DO" moron, and your trying to give advice? ahahahah what a failure. And by the way jackass learn english because you cant even put a complete sentence together you forgot to add the word: know to your first sentence dumbass.
@69charger440sixpack Oh please tell me how to emphasize a word on YouTube WITHOUT (see, I did it again) campitalising. Oh, wait,I *could* do that. And in any case, if you are writing English as a second language, I am sure learning grammar was probably even more emphasized, "dumbass". (See, I can "flame" too, since everyone knows it's OK to say things like "fuck" and "dumbass", since no noe will ever see you, right?)
This is TOO FUNNY!! 2 weeks ago, I found this album at a Goodwill thrift store, and the album was MINT with it's shrink wrap still on it (original price was discounted to $1.99, I think!) Record was in descent shape. I paid $1.00 for it !!!! What a fantastic song !!!!
I had a big crush on a girl in 3rd grade and her name was "Marie",,,i associated this song with her and it quickly became my favorite song....I finally got a relative to buy the 45 for me and I was in Marie heaven.....the funny thing is that this song staqnds up today almost 50 years later....they also made an interesting appearance on the Jack Benny show....where are they now?
I learned to dance to this music,I think the Jackson 5 maybe came about because of this group?? Anyway I was 12 and rocking out to this when it was on Bandstand! Great old music!
I was 11 when I first heard it in 1963, and love this song to this day. If you listen to Teagan and Sara's Walking with the Ghost, you will see a Rockyfeller's influence
I was 17 and living in Los Angeles when this came out in 1963. I had no clue at that time that this group was from Manila, Republic of Phillipine Islands. I sure enjoyed it. Great memories...........
I googled the Rocky Fellers, and the few sites found all said the same: With the advent of the British Invasion, they disappeared from fame in mid sixties. No other info available.
I just love this song ! and The Rocky Fellers. Before You Tube it was impossible to find this gem . I was 10 when this came out and it was the perfect song for a 10 year old rocker. Thanks for posting one of my all time favorites.
im 12 right now and i do wish music was still like this it is relaxing and really great to listen to
