Andy had a more defined build than Liam does at this point, that's for sure, but Liam is more than fit enough to realistically portray the part. In real life, Gladiators were built more like bulky martial artists than bodybuilders-just like today there are many MMA fighters that don't even have defined abdominal muscles...either because of their bulk or just genes-some people get big, fast and strong but just aren't genetically disposed towards definiton, they're just as fast or strong though.
What ever you do dont ever knock Liam and bis lackluster performance and physique or say hes a mere shadow of Andy. You will insult someone on here and get her panties in a bunch . Then face her wrath of tongue . Heaven forbid
just saw the latest episode, it keeps getting better and better, hell in one scene towards the end (51 minute mark) you see a child being gutted by one of Ashurs men. Name me one other show where they depict children being slaughtered. This show is hardcore.

@KoolJayJ i agree he does need to gain some mass, but you got to cut him some slack because i think he only had a couple of months to bulk up. most of the other actors in spartacus have already been bulking up for like 2 years, which is why they look cut. hopefully by next season he will look bigger.

Personally, I find this show to be too moralistic. If you know nothing about history, you would think that the Romans were the only people engaging in slavery at the time and that slavery was foreign to all of these foreigners. Spartacus as a human right freedom fighter? GTFO. The reality is that Rome didn't live in a vacuum, and they were the light of the ancient world, which had a considerable barbaric slither to it.
@Hierarchicalist i agree with you but i think that most of the movies "based" on history are not very authentic anyway , take movies based on the crusades for example , not 1 shows the evil deeds against the Cathars in france , most rather depict the crusaders as heroes .
but to be honest , if you make every movie 100% authentic , it would be boring

season 2 episode 5 is a game changer. the best yet of ANY season. i honestly don't know how much more intrigue, drama, spectacle or character anyone could want in a tv show than that episode. the series suffered a mortal blow, but now season 2 has arrived and the series is clicking on all cylinders. i started watching as a guilty pleasure, and now i'm not guilty one bit. it's the best thing on TV.

I honestly don't like this new Spartacus. Andy Whitfield was handsome but also very rugged and really looked the part. I can't say much about Liam's acting because I haven't seen anything but trailer footage but to me he just doesn't fit the part. He just looks too much like the typical Hollywood pretty boy. He also reminds me a bit of Zachery Quinto who played Sylar on Heroes. He just doesn't look manly enough is probably what I'm trying to say. Andy was perfect for the role.
Glaber and Seppia? I love it. Seppia is somehow hot, cute AND beautiful all at the same time and it is past time that Illythia got a taste of her own medicine-since obviously she has recovered from result of her actions in the last season and is back to her old unrelenting, ruthless and scheming ways. Her scheme against her husband just makes you hate her and even like Glaber a little bit-so I'm glad hers going to throw it back in her face with Seppia.

Awesome episode, burning down the house, operator initiative and violence of action gets a whole other meaning after seeing this episode. Spartacus will be a legendary TV-show. Trust me. It is also intriguing that they character Agron as homosexual as the majority of viewers could be more to the Alfa-dominate male side than compassionate-caring. This duality is brilliant, just brilliant. Those of you that gets mad, please remember that it is a fiction movie :)

I don't understand. Is it really surprising that Gannicus is returning for this season? Some of us knew way before the season trailer even aired. Although I can say I am excited we get to see Gannicus this week. in Gods of the Arena, Crixus and Gannicus did not have "proper contest". It will be interesting to see what rivalries happen. Also, Oenomaus found out his besr friend had sex with his wife before she died. I am stoked to see what happens when they fight in the arena.

Man, the I think i will really miss Andy after watching this trailer... I find myself really missing Andy's voice, his mature and comforting voice really gave it a sense of heroism and leadership, while this new actor's voice sounded abit playful which didn't seem to quite fit. But I sure hope Ganacus will play a big part in this..

Finished 3rd episode. I found new Spartacus is not that Mature in acting as Andy. He is less expressive, not ups and down in voice. and even body is not toned as Andy. Director should have hire someone who could play better thn andy...not less thn him. also i notice slightly changes in every character. lucracia looks more old and lithiya has lost fat from curves. Crixus looks bit old. Overall story is good..

just watched episode 4 - it was great. the first three episodes were lacking but this one was back to the old game of intrigue, betrayal and backstabbing. McLintyre, at least in my mind, stepped into Spartacus' shoes this episode. It looks as if we'll see Crixus and Oenomaus in he arena in episode 5. The new season seems to be coming together- I was a tad worried before episode 4.

season 2 episode 5 is a game changer. the best yet of ANY season. i honestly don't know how much more intrigue, drama, spectacle or character anyone could want in a tv show than that episode. the series suffered a mortal blow, but now season 2 has arrived and the series is clicking on all cylinders. i started watching as a guilty pleasure, and now i'm not guilty one bit. it's the best thing on TV.

Spartacus with Andy was much more better, Sex and fights wine money etc made the serie to show the realistic way of Rome before it became christian stuff that ruined it all. But Season 1 was magnificent and much more better then season 2. Season 1 = Amazing best ever! Season 2 = Only good but nothing more... I honestly don't like this new Spartacus. Andy Whitfield was handsome but also very rugged and really looked the part. I can't say much about Liam's acting because I haven't seen anything but trailer footage but to me he just doesn't fit the part. He just looks too much like the typical Hollywood pretty boy. He also reminds me a bit of Zachery Quinto who played Sylar on Heroes. He just doesn't look manly enough is probably what I'm trying to say. Andy was perfect for the role.

Seppia is somehow hot, cute AND beautiful all at the same time and it is past time that Illythia got a taste of her own medicine-since obviously she has recovered from result of her actions in the last season and is back to her old unrelenting, ruthless and scheming ways. Her scheme against her husband just makes you hate her and even like Glaber a little bit-so I'm glad hers going to throw it back in her face with Seppia.

Awesome episode, burning down the house, operator initiative and violence of action gets a whole other meaning after seeing this episode. Spartacus will be a legendary TV-show. Trust me. It is also intriguing that they character Agron as homosexual as the majority of viewers could be more to the Alfa-dominate male side than compassionate-caring. I don't understand. Is it really surprising that Gannicus is returning for this season? Some of us knew way before the season trailer even aired. Although I can say I am excited we get to see Gannicus this week. in Gods of the Arena, Crixus and Gannicus did not have "proper contest". It will be interesting to see what rivalries happen. Also, Oenomaus found out his besr friend had sex with his wife before she died. I am stoked to see what happens when they fight in the arena.

Man, the I think i will really miss Andy after watching this trailer... I find myself really missing Andy's voice, his mature and comforting voice really gave it a sense of heroism and leadership, while this new actor's voice sounded abit playful which didn't seem to quite fit. Finished 3rd episode. I found new Spartacus is not that Mature in acting as Andy. He is less expressive, not ups and down in voice. and even body is not toned as Andy. Director should have hire someone who could play better thn andy...not less thn him. also i notice slightly changes in every character. lucracia looks more old and lithiya has lost fat from curves. Crixus looks bit old. Overall story is good..

just watched episode 4 - it was great. the first three episodes were lacking but this one was back to the old game of intrigue, betrayal and backstabbing. McLintyre, at least in my mind, stepped into Spartacus' shoes this episode. It looks as if we'll see Crixus and Oenomaus in he arena in episode 5. The new season seems to be coming together- I was a tad worried before episode 4.
