This song was played in Tupac's final hours. It was one of his favourites and no matter what your opinion of him was he was a very talented artist.
He was trained at Baltimore School for the Arts where he read Shakespeare and performed Ballet. At age 19 he wrote a poem titled 'Starry Night' for Vincent Van Gogh.
In the same way that Vincents paintings portrayed the tragedy of people's lives he met so too did Tupacs music. It gave a wider audience a glimpse into worlds they wouldn't normally see
Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all – the most beloved – his command of color most magnificent – he transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty – pain is easy to portray but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world – perhaps no one ever will again – to my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the worlds greatest artist but also one of the greatest men who ever lived - "Dr. Who"

@FmQB i BELIEVE THE ALLUSION IS TO DON MACLEAN NOT TO VINCENT. By the by Vinnie cut his ear of when he suffered an epileptic seizure while shaving. Being some what opportunistic . he sent it to the prostitute hoping she might give him a freebie. He also didn't commit suicide . HE most likely died from years of drinking absinthe. None of this diminishes his genius. it just romanticizes him. Also his brother had no problems selling his works after his death. HMMMMMM !!!

I'm truly so sorry for your pain...I too have watched cancer send my mother to be "crushed and broken" - to watch pain become the price for sanity...take care of you as best you can like heart - I will think upon you...with mine...
umm No, I mean the one where Lisa eventually decides to take up astronomy. After gaining a telescope by pleading with Homer to buy her one, Lisa discovers she should be able to see Venus and Jupiter, but when she try she discovers that the light pollution from the city is blocking her view.
this is a great song i love it! we all as people need to come together and stop the hate we have for eatchother and start loing one another like sister's and brother's!
This song was played in the Las Vegas hospital at the bedside of Tupac Shakur as his mother told Doctors not to revive her sons life, Michael Dyson reported.
Beautiful song that definately fit the moment if true..RIP Pac
@vinny045 it's about vincent van gogh, with specific allusions to his paintings... and of course, at the end, he kills himself. as he did. in 1890 he shot himself in the chest and died two days later.
hehe..even Rick Astley did a cover of this song, not as good as this, especially this rendition..but better than josh IMO, not that josh isn't talented though..i mean we are talking about rick astley here..
Just watched Kirk Douglas in "Lust For Life." Don McLean could paint beautiful words and music. I will use this on my blog. Thank you for the images.

Vincent van Gogh was always one of my favourite painters as I felt I had as very personal connection to his angst ... as I did to Paul Gaugin ...
those who condemn me -
know not what there is
in an artists nature;
so why do they impose upon us -
obligations ... similar to theirs?
we do not impose ours upon them ...

While tupac shakur was laying in his death bed aT THE HOSPITAL the song was played over and over until his last breath. It was one of the song's that gave him the most inspiration..MUSIC like this has no color just the truth..RIP to all of our lost ones........I lost my father to cancer but for us that did let it help other's going through what we did.thank u

Hehe, I see that people have voted "Bad comment" four times. Hehe, I know that was a joke, but in this context, you may have offended someone.
Fotus9 2 years ago
I hope no one was that ofended, it is just a joke...in any case, if anyone was so worried, I won't cut my ear of.
At least you got the joke, eh? ;^)

"How you suffered for your sanity", I remember my mother suffered for her's as the cancer took her brain.
sanfordtm 2 years ago 2
I'm truly so sorry for your pain...I too have watched cancer send my mother to be "crushed and broken" - to watch pain become the price for sanity...take care of you as best you can like heart - I will think upon you...with mine...

What is this song about?
vinny045 3 years ago
Vincent Van Gogh.
2ufromwendylady 3 years ago
@vinny045 it's about vincent van gogh, with specific allusions to his paintings... and of course, at the end, he kills himself. as he did. in 1890 he shot himself in the chest and died two days later.

Congratulation, this video is true tribute to Van Gogh.

A song that can only inspire people some reflection and the way we categorize too easily other people and label them.
This song's ending is also rather pessimistic...
