Maybe the recent incident in Ohio will wake everyone up and help motivate the banning of exotic pets. How any state could allow a practice is a huge public safety risk, encourages animal smuggling, and is unbelievably cruel to the animals themselves is simply ridiculous.
Hey, this is Calen. I`m 10 (I`ve also sent you a letter) and entered your Sand Cat Coloring Contest. I think people should stop using cats for photo props and pets. I especially feel sorry for servals and sand cats because they are popular exotic pets. I really would love to come to your sancuary in Tampa around Christmas. I`ve been intrested in big cats since I was in 3rd grade when I did a iberian lynx project. Check out wildcatsassociation.webs.com.
It hurts to see these magnificent animals in cages. These cats do not belong in this country. No one should be allowed to own one. These are animals that belong in the wild. I understand that their habitat is vanishing, but bringing them here is not the answer.
For one, putting a lion and a tiger in the same cage is encouraging a liger or tigon, but these hybrids are no help to the big cat cause since both varieties are unable to be released into the wild as thier physique causes them to be unable to hunt effectively. So why do it?
@CelticGarou Big Cat Rescue doesn't breed, we are against the breeding of cats, especially since they cannot be released into the wild and are doomed to spend their lives in cages. People who do breed cats like ligers have no interest in animal welfare they're only interested in making money.
@CelticGarou BCR already knows this. No one breeds at the Sanctuary. The lion and tiger you saw together are only together because BCR received them together and they are both fixed. They get along great and cannot produce offspring, so they are fine together.
I think what you do is truely amazing. It is sad that you have to do it all, if it wasn't for ingorant people thinking that they could raise these cats as their pets. f it wasn't for places like this, these cats would have to be put to sleep. :( They are beatuiful amazing creatures that should be able to live their lives in peace in their natural habbit. PEOPLE PLEASE STOP BREEDING, TRADING, HUNTING, TRYING TO RAISE THESE BIG CATS AS PETS, EXPLOTING THEM, AND DESTROYING THEIR HABBITS!!!!
@dragonsammy1 No, we can attach the transport cages to their enclosures and usually lure them in with food and close the door behind them :) We try and avoid sedating the cats as they can react badly to the drugs.
This made my heart break, just wanted to cry to see this!! Before you criticize Big Cat Rescue for what you call a farce and buckshot, GO THERE FIRST and take a look at the quality of life provided for these cats! This isn't a ZOO duh?
ur not on the frontline of shit. look at those animals...better habitat? a fenced cage? really? good try u fuckin idiot u should rethink your career and what you stand for. let me put you in a cage and see if its better than your natural habitat...fuck you
@static4real We don't rescue these animals from wild situations, we rescue them form backyards, basements, fur farms etc... and provide them with a quality home for the rest of their life. These cats cannot be released in to the wild so we provide them with the next best alternative, please visit our website BigCatRescue*org for info about what we do.
How sad. My house-cat comes alive when there is new stimulation. I can't believe there are people out there who think animals like these LIKE living in cages.
if you love these animals, let them go back to the wild.....it is not fair to cage these animals....this is wrong.,I visited the fort worth zoo and it made me feel so sad as to how these animals look sad and depressed.
@Msbea345 We wish this could be done and it was that easy, but this isn't an option. Releasing captive bred cats into the wild is very rarely done and if it is the animals are strong genetic examples of that species, our cats have mixed genetics from cross breeding sub species and inbreeding etc.. So what we do is rescue these animals form bad conditions, provide them with a quality home for the rest of their lives and educate the public about their plight in the wild and in captivity :)
@Msbea345 The likelyhood of them surviving in the wild is low. Think about it, they've probably been bottle and hand feed from the time they were cubs. They wouldn't have the instincts it takes to survive out in the wild. I wish it was possible for them to thrive out there, but it is more often that they would die from starvation.
Very touching. A worthy cause. I love cats, have 3 little domestic ones, and the big cats are just beautiful. I can't imagine such a noble creature trapped in a basement. It really should be illegal.
Except for the ones that have deficiencies, what makes your operation different than a zoo? Are they not still in cages? Are they not still captive? Why not return them to their home countries? No matter what you do here, in the States, it will have zero impact on what the governments of other countries do. Most profit from the sale of these animals. We both know that. Once extinct in the wild, captive animals will be all there are. I don't mean to be critical, but, where's the differenc?.
@Nicodemus98 They're still in cages yes, but they are in much better environments form what we have rescued them from and if they weren't rescued they would still be in these horrible conditions or dead. None of our cats are suitable for release back into the wild (which very very rarely happens) They associate people with food, are not scared of people and would become nuisance animals, they are also inbred and cross bred their genetics aren't 100% so would be of no benefit to wild populations
@JyrTwinz you do realize that the footage of the tiny cages is of places the cats were rescued from right? BCR keeps them in much larger enclosures than they were previously in, and they can't release them into the wild.
@JyrTwinz the people's houses before are very crowded and dirty. But the Big Cat Rescue, they actually make the environment more comfortable and spacious, just like the wild. And also there are a lot of non profit organizations that do this, they get the big cats and help them recover nicely and then they send them back to the wild.Where they naturally belong.
great job you guys. please continue to save these creatures they are so beautiful. i don't want them to extinct. it's so sad that there are less lions in asia than africa. i hope both lion population grow even more :)
how come you never bait, lock and pin the tigers in order to clean them properly? i.e; digging out urine spots, removing bones that draw ants? pulling stool from the outside is not sanitary, nor is neglecting to rake the enclosures. you give 501c-3 organizations a bad name-but like everything else-your money (profits) talk and not your responsibility to the cats!
@tikercat pin the tigers???!!! This sounds dangerous! If we need to get into an enclosure to perform maintenance our cages are built in two separate sections so we can just call them over to one side while the other person closes them off, no food needed in most cases as we have a good relationship with our cats. Why is removing scat from the outside not sanitary? It is removed just like if we went in the enclosure and picked it up?
@tikercat We have very high standards of animal care, our cats are happy, healthy and not stressed. We don't have any contact with our cats or breed like some so called "sanctuaries"
Watching what has become of the wild life on earth breaks my heart, i feel a little better knowing that people actually care for creatures we take advantage of.
A fence, is a fence, is a fence; no matter how one slices the semantics, all you want is the money to have a lush easy job. Preserve their habitat, in your place or mine is still a cage. Your a joke, try actually going after the bad guys yourselves if you really want to do something; throwing money at it has never worked!
This is true no big cat should be living in a cage this is something we are against and trying to end. Our ultimate goal is to not exist. We educate and petition for new laws going after the bad guys in the process, we are doing a good job and it isn't lush and easy like you say.
I really hope it will get better. I feel so sorry for the poor cats in those small cages. They can't protest by themselves. They need u. Keep the good work up!
This wouldn't make owning a lion OK. Everybody starts out with the same good intentions withe these cute cuddly cubs, but they don't stay that way very long live a very long time, cost a fortune to feed. Once mature they really don't want to be "played" with all the time and when a lion wants to tell you this it can be very dangerous!
If you go to mgm's website you can get more info, also I took alot of video with the cub and at the habitat which I am going to post on youtube. The only thing i am sure of is that they are not being bred for entertainment purposes. But they are put on show at mgm.
I just came back from las vegas and visited the lion habitat , I actually got to feed one of the cubs and hold her, upon donation to the habitat. It was an amazing experience. Im conflicted about them being on display but apparently they are only in there for a few hours a day while they sleep and then go miles out to a perserve
No they are not on a stage, they are in a rock sound proof rock habitat during the day for about 3 hours each at mgm and then they are driven back out to the preserve. People can donate right at mgm and it goes towards feeding and caring for the lions not the hotel. They get to play eat and sleep there. The cubs are with attendants and they limit the visits for 5 min intervals only 10 per day and could be less as it is all in accordance with the cubs mood. I asked alot of questions
I feel a little better now....I stayed at MGM back in 2001, and remember how much I wanted to hold one of the lion cubs (though I didn't). After learning what I know now from BCR, I felt guilty about having wanted to, but if what they told you is true then it's not so bad. But still, they have the right to just be lions and not have to be handled and driven to and fro.
No they are in an MGM habitat for a few hours a day then rotated with new lions to sleep and play. The habitat is sound proof , they have water and feeding times and for most of their time they are brought back out 40 miles to a compound. So that's what I was told.
We haven't had any attacks at BCR, the staff and volunteers are fully trained for working around these animals and we have no contact with the cats, unlike other places.
These people who lock up cats and exploit them are horrible. I really hope new laws can be passed. You wonderful people are changing the lives of so many big cats and it's a great thing to see.
We petition and speak at hearings regarding captive wildlife rules, send an enormous amount of letters/e-mails to state representatives etc... and try and raise awareness within the general public from giving tours and using the internet. Visit CatLaws*com for more info on what we are doing :) It's legal to own big cats in over half of the USA!
I would say that, they Should be in the wild.... However, my guess is, because of their dependence and familiarity with people, that they couldn't be returned to the wild now.
:( i feel so bad for these cats if only they could speak their feelings i hate people that have no hearts those people are lower than low. they are so low there isnt a word for them! i just wish everybody had a heard and stopped being abusive and stopped killing and the world would be a lot more peaceful
What is the white at at 15 seconds? I never seen anything like that before! =O So cute though. Anyways, this is incredibly sad, but It's a statement very well said. Keep working at it!
wow i did'nt even know that they could turn up white! it's a good thing you got them becuse there fur is white and rare other ppl might try to kill them for profit.and with the white fur in africa ,it might not survive there.
That is a white serval. The only two we know of are at Big Cat Rescue. Like the white tiger, the white color is a genetic defect that typically is associated with many other defects when it appears and should not be bred.
We do help out with a lot of other stuff, we have got 3 binturongs and a few civets we work with boxer rescue and other rescues fostering dog/cats etc...But our main focus/passion is big cats and trying to solve the problems these animals face.
Those who treated these cats like a property and then abandoned them like they are nothing are much worse than a scum. Where is their hearts? I feel sad for these poor, helpless but insanely cute animals.
A big thank you for BCR for saving these cats. I hope these cats will be happy with their new homes.
Those cats look so sad! God, who the fuck is dumb enough to think that they can handle a full grown killing machine in their basement? It makes me wish that the cats would get out and maul the person who locked them up, only I know that then the cat would get put down because people are too fucking stupid to stop and think, "Hey, wait a minute, that cat is just doing what's in its nature!" Why is it that mentally retarded people aren't prosecuted for crimes but animals are?
See these people posing with these cubs, not knowing that when they grow up the cats will become a "burden". This makes me so sad, I wish I could tell everyone in the world about how I feel but I can't....
The world is a better place because of BCR! Please keep your work going!
I donated 20$ earlier this year and I am thinking about doing it again. Being a poor student, I wish I could give more!
This made me cry... it's so sad what people do to these awesome animals.. why can't they just leave them where they belong, and stop taking them or/and their environments away? ...so sad, really. thank god there are people like you taking care of them.
Yo! Scott again! He's cool. But the cats are really cool. Aw poor kitties! It's so sad! Cats deserve to be in the wild. Without abuse or exploitation. Without being neglected and abandoned. I'm gonna be sobbing! The cats are beautiful! 0:43 got me crying.
Awe they are so beautiful. Makes me very sad that ppl hunt and kill them, and other evil things. Thank you again for your wonderful videos on these BEAUTIFUL animals!
why people treats bad such a lovely animals, I love cats I would never do that!!!! how can something sooo evil cross in someones mind???

I'm actually studying to become a zoologist/activist. I'm a sophomore in college majoring in zoology. Hm.

You're right it is a crazy situation, thanks for taking the time to send some e-mails, this is a good way to get the problems noticed!

I hope to work independently in the future for causes like this. Maybe do projects with PETA and the ALF sometimes, lol. ;P

I would say that, they Should be in the wild.... However, my guess is, because of their dependence and familiarity with people, that they couldn't be returned to the wild now.

What is the white at at 15 seconds? I never seen anything like that before! =O So cute though. Anyways, this is incredibly sad, but It's a statement very well said. Keep working at it!

That was Tonga, one of our white servals at the sanctuary, we believe we have the only two in the world!?

wow that is pretty sad =(

wow i did'nt even know that they could turn up white! it's a good thing you got them becuse there fur is white and rare other ppl might try to kill them for profit.and with the white fur in africa ,it might not survive there.
Saranitheonly 2 years ago
That is a white serval. The only two we know of are at Big Cat Rescue. Like the white tiger, the white color is a genetic defect that typically is associated with many other defects when it appears and should not be bred.

The keeping, selling and housing of these big cats should be forbidden.
It is insane to keep those as a "pet".
They are NOT pets, they are wild animals.
And if they are big, well......you see what happens: abandoned and thrown away.
Disgusting !!

They have a binturong there, tho I forget what that is already.
It's not a cat, I know that. There's a video of it, but I don't remember which one. It's on Big Cat Rescue's channel.

Thank you Big Cat Rescure.
I'm crying my eyes out!
