  • Dude you should play with a band

  • i have a silverface twin. is it safe to pull 2 power tubes on these? i have never heard of anyone doing this on these amps before.

  • @JKryanX it is safe, pull one and three or two and four. i had a switch put in mine where the extention speaker jack was..flip it down and its 50 watss..up its a 100, just because i'm lazy. note tho. pulling tubes out an old amp stretches the contacts, over time this can be a problem. i have issues with the preamp tube..it makes a horrible crackling sound..i wiggle them and it goes a way

  • that Vibrato you got rockin is sick, man.

  • You have long legs like the music man logo lol

  • What is your volume on at about 1:00?

  • Mmm gIBSON-FENDER Nop, Gibson- Marshall yes, fender-fender yei yei

  • Who in the hell is interested to see another youtube-fellow playing his Fender Twin in his bedroom with Volume on 0,02 with this shitty sound ????

In your situation, you´re better off with with headphones!

You don´t need an amp just to show off and waste other people time with these useless videos!

  • @sunshinesigi the whole point of the vid was that it is breaking up, he clearly shows the volume is at 7

  • what's the point of leaving derogatory comments, you're just wasting his time? Amp sounded fine.

  • what was the twin like when the vol was on 3, was it ok to have it on 3 if U were in a garage on the side of your house, without disturbing next door

  • jesus christ, this sounds amazing

  • what song is that at 0:45?!?

  • Damn, you look tall!

  • my god does that amp sound spectacular!

  • That amp sounds absolutely beautiful. And I'm a metalhead so that must mean something. I want to get one.

  • at what volume were you playing at? my fender twin starts breaking up at around 6 on up and it's LOUD

  • this guy's vibrato sounds fine. whats the big deal?

  • whats that song called you were playing 1 minute in? ACDC?

  • who the fuck cares about this guys vibrato ..........you guys are cunts complaining about vibrato and mr stowburst you have nice hair and i aint gay or anything but yu got nice hands as well dont worry about the guitar nazis always bitchin about peoples vibrato and such....tsk tsk tsk

  • there is no "wrong" way to use vibrato. style is completely subjective. what did you replace the twin with? i loved my twin, but living in an apartment, it was just too much. now i rock a tweed blues junior.

  • @blastofo I replaced with deluxe reverb..thenI replaced that with vibrolux Reverb!! LOL!! No i just use a 12 watt amp that my mate made.

  • @blastofo I've been really happy with all the Swart amps. The little 5 watt STR one is perfect for apartments. SwartAmps (dot) com

    5W SE Class A - Tube Reverb - 12" Speaker

    Glorious Breakup with Cleans Switch!

  • so i would have to pull 2 power amp tubes? no preamp tubes?

  • What speakers do you have in this rig?

  • Your vibrato does sound annoying....lol. It's alright tho.~

  • @mbos4115 ??? This guy has great vibrato, reminds of a certain Jimmy Page... very hard to get to that level of speed and control. What the fuck are you on?

  • Great playing, friend. Awesome tone.

  • nothin wrong or upsetting about yer vibrato pal!!!!!

  • @StowBurst Sorry if you've answered this before, but what year is your Twin Reverb? Do the different years sound different? I really want to buy one that sounds just like this!

  • Great tone. I just got a 73 Twin Reverb this week and I'm amazed at how good it sounds. I had always heard that they basically only do clean tones, but mine does somewhat dirty like you hear here quite well. Loving it!

  • blatant ignorant criticisizing comment disregarding the utility of this video and skill of the poster.... just kidding. excellent twin crunch! vibrato whatever you feel!!! try to be like the rest of them and youll be criticizing youtube videos into your old age, with no gigs and a strong idea of what's right and wrong bah!

  • what are some albums that are pure fender twin sounds?

  • I have owned three fender twin amps two early 70's and one ri and a bassman. None i repeat noe of them could come close to drowning out a marshall amp! I have ownened five Marshall amps half stacks and full stacks. The would crush a fender with the volume ar 2-3 they even eclipeds a 5150 fullstack. Who ever this guy is that says his twin was louder than a marshall amp they must have the new ri marshalls because vintage ones would kick there ass!!!!

  • how many watts is this??

  • great combination of instrument and amp, sounds wonderful!!! 5 stars

  • Very nice classic tone there.

  • Can you take out a power tube or two out without having to re-bias and stuff? Thanks...

  • I'm really enjoying this :)

  • man u sound really good thru that twin up 'til about 2:10 for me..guess it's academic now that it's sold. i mean gold standard good, dude.

  • Geez, I hardly ever get to put my Twin past 2. It's sad, really. I wish I could raise it that loud to get that yummy crunchy sound, but my neighbors would seriously hate me.

  • take it to an amptechnician and he installs an load to it which sinks it to 20watts ...its a fantastic amp with a lot a possibilities and you wont get tinnitus!

  • is this a master volume model?

    be careful with pulling tubes?

    it changes the impendance

  • the first part of the vid was cool but the rest sounded just muffled and muddy..

  • diff is 3dB when doubling power.

  • I get a lot of comments saying my Vibrato is annoying or wrong etc.. I take them all on board. Please somone tell me or show me how to improve on it, I taught myself how to play guitar so I was never shown how to do it, I just play what feels and sounds right to me

  • If we are talking about Vibrato..Koss and Kirwan are the kings, Angus.. is great too but Koss IS THE BEST. I'm working on mine a bit more so watch this space.. LOL!!

  • Comment removed

  • Paul Kossof

    Free

    discover him,great player

  • Paul Kossof... One of the greats. RIP

  • @StowBurst Nice demo. Everyone should stop complaining. Not everyone could be a C.C Deville of Poison, who is probably the best, but comparing can sometimes be silly.

  • @ToneKingGuitarMan

a lot of angus young's vibrato is fast

  • @StowBurst Just be yourself man...then you'll sound your best,,,I think you sound great...~

  • @StowBurst That's all that matters. People may say that it is annoying, but playing music, to me, is about what you feel, not other people.

  • @StowBurst In my experience, there are two type of vibrato: one is slower, at about the pace of a 32nd note. Then there's a faster type, which you seem to favor. However, you can use them interchangeably for desired effect. A good example of the latter is AC/DC's Ride On. I wouldn't say one is "wrong," but most players tend to use a slower vibrato on bends.

I think here your vibrato style works, but if it's a slower song, as fast vibrato doesn't fit to well. Something to work on.

  • @dawnoftheshed **and I meant 16th note for the speed of the first type. Oops.

  • @ToneKingGuitarMan intimidation shows its ugly head all over youtube, but i think yours is the only one worth commenting on so far

  • Comment removed

  • @claytushaywood1 ? Not sure what you mean. No intimidation factor here bud. I apologized to StowBurst 10 months ago... now get over it.

  • @claytushaywood1 You’re posting ignorant statements and going on about having no gigs and being old etc. Irony… very few in this world can say they played at Red Rocks and so I count myself lucky. Go lecture someone else or if you’re ever in Denver, stop by my dojo and ask for Koncho and we can talk about it. You can find it at chikaraken . com

  • @ToneKingGuitarMan dude quit making yourself look like an idiot. i apologize for smiting such a petty soul. it really has been fun though. way to end it on violence. normbot

  • @claytushaywood1 Not sure what you mean. Like I said, stop by and we can talk about it, you assume too much.

  • @ToneKingGuitarMan of course you wouldnt be sure what i mean, i really didnt expect you too. im basically having fun with myself and a broken record. VIOLENCE IS AWESOME!!!and who would say they played at red rocks and post a link to a dojo? wheres the band link? does it sound like a bunch of meatheads punching the air in front of mirrors, and calling it inspired or art?

  • @ clay tush can't get a woody: Of course I wouldn't know what you mean and neither would any sane person. Again... you assume too much. The Dojo and the band are two separate things. Either you're pretty smart for a dumb person or a really dumb person who's just a smart ass. Also, if you're going to try and insult somebody, learn to spell and use proper grammar.

  • @claytushaywood1 操你祖宗十八代

  • @claytushaywood1 You sound like such a dumb fuck! Why don't you go back to gargling balls and jerking off to anime.

  • This was awesome!!!!!!! i have a '99 Ocean Blue Fender Stratocaster.

  • i can't go past 2 on mine or else it gets all disstorted. i hate water damage

  • nice tone !

  • Love that nice tone!

  • Your neighbors must love you.

  • man i'd love to have this guy for a neighbour. i'd jam with him all day

  • I pulled two valves out of my Twin and to my ears it lost some of it's richness. Also, the drop in volume wasn't all that much. I like my Twin running on full power, fuck the neighbours.lol

  • i think you pulled out the wrong tubes buddy.

  • volume on 7! christ, I can't go past 3 on mine without the walls shaking.

  • Could i pull a tube out on my super reverb? How is it done?

  • Super is on 40w so it will sound like this anyway, it only has two 6L6s. You can only pull tubes to halve power if you have 4 output Valves, but to be honest, there is not that much different in power from 100w or 50w so you may as well leave them in as I'm sure pulling tubes can harm amp. Anyway a Super is a killer amp. They sound amazing when volume is up!

  • doesnt harm the amp at all. all your doing is taking out half of the output....idk really how to explain it without going into electronics technical terms but the point is, its really no big deal. people run their plexi's with tubes pulled for years, nothing bad happens.

  • When you remove 2 out of 4 power tubes you cause impedance missmatch.

A 100 watt amp has an OT at 2kohms

A 50 watt amp has an OT at 4,6-5 kohms

Pulling out 2 tubes cause impedance missmatch to the speaker, major tone suffering and major tube torture..

Also,a 100 watt doesnt differ a lot from a 50 watt at your ears,100 watt has more headroom.

I would not pull the tubes out.

    Peace

  • Hey i wanna buy that one...for Nirvanaish sound...Will sansamp? be great on this?

  • I pulled 2 tubes from my 100w Marshall for a long time, doesn't actually make a lot of volume difference. Good point abt the headroom tho, which can affect how pedals sound.

  • Yeah,the diff.between a 100 watt tube amp and a 50 watt tube amp is about 5-10 db more.

    Cheers mate.)

  • Plus the 50 watt will break-up a lot sooner.

  • Mark is correct on this one. There are a few technical web sites you can go to that support this.

  • @StowBurst if you pull a pair on an amp like a twin (one with 2 pairs) you can avoid harming the remaining output tubes and output transformer by making the speaker impedance twice the output transformer's rated impedance requirement. So say this twin has a 4 ohm impedance requirement...if the speakers are wired to deliver 8 ohms then the amp will just be a 50w amp with an amazing amount of tightness and no harm to tubes or transformer. If it has an 8 ohm requirement, wire them to be 16 ohms etc

  • No. A Super Reverb has two power tubes and can't operate on just one. A Twin Reverb has four power tubes and can operate with two.

  • Ok as you wish,it can operate with 2 tubes,do it all the time its good for your amp etc

    Thats better now?

  • @MetalScreamer510 Here's a little tip that I'll expand on later. Technically you can replace the 6L6GC's in your Super Reverb with 6V6's, and increase the total impedance of your speakers from 2 ohms to 4 ohms. This would keep you from harming the output transformer, and reduce the amp to about 25w. Of course with tube changes you have to make sure that the amp is set up to accomodate the new tubes, and in this case that would mean increasing the screen resistor to at least 1k.

  • @MetalScreamer510 I ran out of room in the first comment, but I need to mention that the only way you'll get 4 ohms out the speakers currently in your Super Reverb is to buy all new 16 ohm speakers and wire them all in parallel to replace all the 8ohm ones you have right now. If you feel like dropping the cash to do this don't forget about the need to change the screen resistor. If you know how to wire speakers or what a screen resistor is, then have a tech do it. It won't be much quieter though

  • Dude your ears must be being slaughtered playing all these amps to break up lol. Anyway nice vid thanks for posting! 5/5

  • do you simply just have to pull the tubes out?

Or do you have to rebias it after?

  • what were you playing at the end? sounded so cool and happy! tell me the chords >:3

  • im guessing it was the output tubes you pulled to lower the wattage yeah? did you do anything else to it to get it to work without the tubes? cheers

  • these are the mules right

  • Love that compressed distortion.

  • real rolling stones sound!

  • i can get one of these for $300 from a friend of mine!! if i do im gonna try this, sounds amazing!

  • Lucky you!!

  • You lucky dog.

    xD

  • ah, it was a hotrod deluxe.. anyway i got it for $200

and it breaks up a bunch easier on clean.. still real loud though. i figure ill get a tube screamer or something and get some more nice tone out of it.

fender makes some really loud amps. that's what ive got to say.

  • a tube screamer works so well in front of a twin reverb. you dont need much distortion, just the volume boost.

what this does is overdrives the first gain for which there is no control.

also pull the first preamp tube (v1) and only use the reverb channel and you will just a little bit of edge to your sound.

  • wow this must have been so loud.....

  • wpuld this amp be good fo indie rock and grunge sound? thanks hope anyone can help...peace

  • with a distortion pedal, yes, why not?

  • what volume does this amp break up with all tubes in place?

  • lol Go to your local Guitar Center and find out.

That way you'll 1.) Find out what level the amp breaks up, and 2.) You'll piss everyone off at Guitar Center!

    :)

  • tubes + volume = tone

  • I pulld a pair of tubes from my el84 vox . It was quieter . I plugged em back in .. much better tone with em in

  • Some of the patterns require that you remove every other one, or the 2 on the outside, or the two on the inside. PS. Don't listen to anybody on here about power breaks... They might save your cheap power tubes, but they eat the transformers, which is a whole heck of a lot more expensive to replace then power tubes. Rock on!

  • If circuit for the power tubes is wired up in parallel, then it will be fine to remove power tubes. If it is series, then it would makes no sound at all and would most likely blow one of the transformers. So, yes, he is fine removing powertubes... however... there is also a pattern to it.

  • dude id put those tubes back in. it wears down the remaining ones really fast. sometimes causing them to burn out the second the amp is turned on. its really bad. ive learned from experience. if you wanna lower the wattage to make it break up soon, try a Marshall Powerbrake or similar device. you simply plug it into the wall, and plug the amp into that. instant half wattage, with no risk of damage.

  • isnt it against the rules to run with tubes missing

  • nice job, great tone, I have one, I just can,t lift it anymore after I put two altec Lansing speakers in it( 125lbs)

  • I love this amp

  • great playing, awsome sound

and looking good with the guitar too =]

  • Did you pull out power tubes? Could I do that to my amp?

  • I love it.

I own this amp, play a les paul (but a custom), wear those pants (I read that comment), and frequently strive for the bloomfield tone with my twin on 7+

    Nice job man, good video

  • Are you going straight in? Amazing sound.

  • Yeah straight in, 2 tubes pulled..it will sound the same with all 4 in it but it will be a bit louder..the key to breakup is the middle has to be on full

  • nice 1 to the 1 there

  • it's amazing how close the lovepedal les lius gets to this tone. amazing gear and amazing player. 5 stars mate

  • what two tubes did you pull out and are you aware of any adverse effects from doing that? I have a traynor that im not pleased with and its too loud, i'm interested in experimenting.

  • The two inner power amp tubes, has your amp got 4 power amp tubes? The side effects.. well some say it will harm your tranny.. maybe? I was ok and I sold this amp and they new owner is very happy and it woks fine

  • damn i love this

  • nasty, your neighbors must hate you

  • i think this guy took out two of his power tubes.

  • wowee that must be loud i never turn my twin past 4 never need to

  • how is this not making your ears bleed!

  • does this have a master switch? how are you getting it to break up like that? simply putting the volume up?

  • You need to work on a much deeper vibrato.. It really kinda ruins your playing when the vibrato sounds thin and kind of desperate :) it would really take your playing to a totally different level! Hope you will take this in a constructive way buddy.

    Brian

  • ...I ve got a twin, but for breakin up I prefer

and is the other pretty right amp: a Vibrolux

    perfect crunch valve sound

so I use the twin with volume 6 more bass and middle than treble my Gretsch 6120, volume in 10 tuned down 1 and a half down from st tuning with .12 strings

and that you have a thick fat heavy sound

  • People always laugh at me when I show up to a gig with my Fender Twin combo, and they've got a wall of 100w Marshalls.

And well, they're not laughing when my little Fender combo drowns out their half stacks.

  • i use a Fulltone OCD on a low gain setting and my twin breaks up about like that at around volume around 5,bass around 4ish,treble at 7 middle at 4-6.reverb 3ish,and i think i remember you saing that you pulled 2 power tubes as well in this vid? so you're running around 40 watts? give or take 5mine is still the 100 watt version in 74 so 5 is pretty loud

  • Buying this amp!

  • how loud do u go to get it to break up?

  • very! You need the middle 10 too

  • Do you know if Deluxe reverbs are easier to break up?

  • they break up too soon! They are only 22 watts and they break a 4/5ish

  • If you want something that's gonna break up easier have a look at the super reverb SRV used it and it sounds oh so good!

  • SRV used alot of amps.

  • hey i really like this video make me want this amp but i dunnno whether to go for it or not.

Im gonna be playing music like the white stripes through it and i dunno if its got enough crunch to do the job!

I guess the '65 reissue has jensen speakers so thats a good thing. but with them being hard to get to sound crunchy i dunno lol.

i guess thats what the Big Muff is for :P

  • This amp only gets crunchy when its up VERY LOUD. I would say get a Super Reverb or a Deluxe reverb for crunch at lower volumes. Or get a Twin Reverb and TS9 and you got the best of both worlds

  • Do not use a Big Muff with a bright amp, like a Fender.

I ran my BM into a cranked Twin, and almost blew my ears - it sounds like a chainsaw. Totally anemic, with no body or depth. Perfect black metal tone LOL

The Muff is much better suited for darker amps.

Wanna break up a Twin? Run dual DOD 250's into it.

  • dude 2 days ago i was in manny's on 48th street in nyc i tried out a big muff pi through a fender twin reverb with a burstbucker loaded les paul and that sound you just described is what came out of it and i totally loved it...and i'm a die-hard marshall guy!,i didn't have to hit the bright switch on the amp and it sounded fine, also all you have to do is adjust the knobs dude to give it body and depth.

  • Sweet!

Maybe you're on to something. I didn't do any real experimenting with it, which is why I probably din't get a very useable tone from it.

I think I'll dig my Russian out and give it another shot!

    Cheers!

  • it might not work with the russian pi because its got a mellower tone than the american one,but have fun dude thats whats its all about.

  • for led zep, hendrix, and other rock stuff do you recommend usa big muff, or russian?

  • usa is a little harsher with more defined distortion, the russian is a little bit more mellow and muddy, but they sound VERY similar. the difference is subtle. getting multiple distortion pedals is the best way to cover all the bases: there's light overdrive/blues like the boss bd-2, harsher lead distortion like proco rat and boss ds-1), and rhythm pedals like russian big muff and tubescreamer falling in the middle a bit. Fuzz is also a commonly used element, as is an octave up in some music.

  • i think the russia has a much more thinner smoother tone vs USA's more fuzzy aggressiv tone. My russian is also constantly breakin down. My american never breaks basically buy which one u like better just be prepared for what comes iwth it.

  • manny's is where david gilmour bought his black stratocaster he used during dark side of the moon and previous albums. random fact of the day

  • dude you're just another jerkoff who jerksoff all over the fret board. there's more to guitar playing then playing fast.

so asianaxewound (yeah i'm calling you a pussy) is that all you can do or could play something like this dude on here?

  • Lol you said kyke you're so kewl.

  • killer... absolute killer

  • that must of been loud as all friggin hell. i put it up to five the other day and was scared to go any higher

  • The middle is full, that will always introduce an early overdrive on any amp.

  • I thinking id rather play a Gibson over a fender any day, just an amazing guitar, period.

  • Yea they're good but quality control fucking blows, and they're WAY over priced.

    Just my opinion though.

  • I personally think both Gibson and Fender are equal. It just depends what kind you music your going to be playing.

  • I've been thinking, maybe the quality control has always sucked, maybe its just more of a known issue because of the internet.

  • Possibly, but Gibson should be doing MUCH better for what they charge. I won't lie, I haven't touched a nice guitar in my life than a Gibson but I think they need to get their shit together.

  • Amen to that.

  • That must've been painfully loud, but those are very sweet tones coming from that amp, man.

  • awesome tone! reminds me a little of angus young in parts

  • awesome tone! reminds me a little of angus young in parts

  • a little more like keith richards in some parts in my opinion

  • Amazing sound and playing. I didn't like when you played the Fender though, really different sound!

  • Amazing video. I own a gibson les paul standard and I want to get a good amp. I am looking to spend around 1300 but I don't know if I should get marshall or a fender amp... What do you think?

  • Depends what you play? Marshall and Fender both sound great when turned up but a Marshall will have more gain

  • this is a pretty gay question but, what kind of jeans are u wearing? lol

  • Ha ha! Levi 517 slim black

  • LOLOL, dude!

  • Lol
