And either way, 280whp isn't the same as 400whp. I'm running around the same whp you have with a stock turbo too (2005 sti cobb stage 2), and i sure as hell can't go up to 400 whp with a stock clutch, injectors, and intercooler.

  • @failchawi ...........Dude, the stock 04 05 injectors are "stage 1" Thats not an upgrade. If I were to have the 03 engine then I'd list it. And my dyno video wasn't my peak WHP. That was like mid way. I put down 255whp like mid pulls, I made 280whp but turned the boost back down because the car was leaning out. So we enriched it up as my car is a DD. Srt's aren't sti's We don't need a bigger intercooler til 350hp/bigger turbo. Clutch and injectors will be needed after 300hp.

  • @850wagonT5 plus an R32 is certainly NO where near any "luxurious features" and it isn't so comfortable either! i suggest you drive one, especially the mark 4 models have very cheap and unsupportive seats, and the interior quality may be still a little bit better than in a dodge caliber, but it is marginally at best!

  • @CHUUMPASS That's cool man, you are clearly allowed to like what you want...but the Caliber SRT is cheap and tunable. That's about it. It's easy to make it quick, but it's nowhere near in the same league (build quality, interior comfort, interior noise, fit and finish, handling...remember that's not the same as road holding...etc) as something like the R32 or the Audis you compared it to. That's like comparing a Neon SRT to a 350Z. One is a much more "grown up" car than the other.

  • @850wagonT5 of course a neon/caliber srt are not as grown up as, say a nissan 350z, as i said before, these are well established long standing models whereas the caliber pretty much was thrown in out of nowhere, but speaking of quality, interiors , i don't think that the nissan 350z for instance is a benchmark for that, as you can find a lot of cheap hard touch platics cramped all over it just like you would in the caliber. also we have to keep the price difference in mind

  • Yes SRT-4s were cheaper than a wrx but they also were severely underpowered when it came to brakes...suspension was terrible too.

  • I would not drive a baseline dodge neon or a Lancer or a regular WRX. But i would dirve are EVO, SRT-4 or a STI. I was all into the honda scene and thought the SRT-4 WAS CRAP until i drove one. I sold my b20 on boost and got the srt-4. Now i don't have to worry about the smell of burning oil because piston rings are going. The SRT-4 motor can take anything u throw at it all day everyday. 320 whp here I beat on her everyday all day and still fells like day one.

  • srt-4 stage 3 kits makes about 350whp...and with the stage 3 kit the srt-4 still maintains its factory warranty. NOW IF THE SRT-4 ENGINE COULD NOT WITHSTAND THAT KIND OF POWER SAFELY FOR EVERDAY DRIVING THEN DODGE WOULD NOT WARRANTY STAGE 3 KITS FOR THE SRT-4. I have seen 400 whp srt-4 being daily driven for years.

NOT WHP... 400whp srt4's daily driven for years is a load of crap, your motor wud kill itself, and ur clutch wud go bye bye on the first day. So for your own knowledge, 310 hp on pump gas = around 250-260 WHP ON STAGE 3 FOR SRT-4.

I'm not saying the srt is a bad car in any way (arguably i could), all i'm saying is that you're over exaggerating gains vs aftermarket parts.

Mopar says the stage 3 kit offers 310 flywheel hp, hence +95 hp from 215, and +80 hp from 230 hp, 310hp = around 250 whp, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

  • @BoredomKills25 Your ignorance is amazing. The SRT-4's A853 has roots in the 420a and 4g63/4g64. Two of the best performance four cyl designs of all time. They can easily handles 500+hp on the stock internals, and even then only the pistons become the weak link. You can trash talk all you want but fact remains that the SRT outperformed EVERY car in its class in handling/braking/acceleration and still out performed cars above its class in certain categories all while costing much less.

No, the RSX cost more and had pitiful performance compared to the SRT-4, the civic Si of the time was even worse. Honda apologetics always make me lol.

  • The A853 is NOT the 4G63 though. In fact, they're almost nothing alike when it comes to potential. 4G63 is a far superior engine. If the pistons become a weak link @ 500bhp, then the stock internals can't handle 500bhp. Pistons are considered internal engine parts. Also, SRT4s don't have the handling capability that STis have. If you put them on a real track like Tsukuba or Nurburgring, you'd see that immediately. It's a good car in its own right for much less but there is a reason for that.

The fact that the Sti handles better than an SRT-4 is moot. The Sti cost $10-15,000 more than the SRT-4 when new, yet the SRT-4 can give both the STi's and Evo's of the time a run for their money.

  • 1)The STi is NOT just an Impreza. It's as different from an Impreza as night & day. Everything on an Impreza WRX STi is STi spec.

    2)My Subaru may not have too many creature comforts but it's definitely not "cheaply made". An STi isn't as cheaply made as an SRT4 either.

  • 1)Sorry but in terms of REAL potential (not just tuning but building), the EJ series edges out ANY Chrysler 4 cylinder of the present.

    2)Who the HELL does "rolling starts"? What are we, still in high school? I'd love to see the day that a Neon could keep up with my Subaru in a corner.

    3)SRT4s are nice, no doubt. But don't give them too much glory. You still need TONS of work to get them to handle properly.

    3)STis have more handling capability than an SRT4. It just takes more skill to reach it.

  • @DOHCEJ22E1 1) The closest competition for the SRT-4 was the more expensive WRX. The SRT-4's A853 is a much more stout engine than the EJ20 of the time (open deck, weaker internals)

    2) Most opportunistic races are rolling starts in the real world. FWD is far from ideal but also take into account the fragility of the WRX's 5 speed. Also note the SRT-4 WAY out-handled, out-braked and out-accelerated the WRX for less money with more power potential.

    3) Moot point, the STI was MUCH more expensive.

  • 1)The A853 is a 2.4L which would mean that it's closer to the 257 (STi 2.5L) in rivalry.

    2)Now compare the SRT4's 5 speed to the STi's 6 speed, in which it would have the advantage over due to having taller gears despite not being quite as stout (SRT4 transmissions are STRONG for what they are though.)

    3)10K isn't MUCH more expensive but it does leave room for tuning/modification. LOTS of it. SRT4 wins in that category by far.

    4)SRT4s were underrated in power, putting out 230WHP factory. Damn.

  • @DOHCEJ22E1 1) The fact that its engine is most comparable to that of a car that is 50%+ its price point(STi) is a testament to the value of the SRT-4.

    2) Comparing transmissions (esp. awd to fwd) is shaky at best, obviously the scoob 6 speed is the superior trans, but again its in a more expensive car. For a transversely mounted fwd gearbox the SRT-4's is about as good as it gets in terms of durability/power holding (however it is lacking in feel/slop, it is out of a transit van after all).

  • @DOHCEJ22E1 3) $10,000 was ~50% of the cost of the SRT-4. not an insubstantial amount and often overlooked when people compare a cars that cost 50-75% more. And even then the comparisons aren't entirely unfavorable. The SRT-4 was so good it was pointless to compare to cars in its class.

    4) SRT did a number on the PT's engine. 230whp and 250+ft-lbs. Almost unheard of in its bracket(cobalt SS was closest) until its spiritual successor the Mazdaspeed3. Even then the MS3 was/is more expensive.

You can hate on the Dodge all you want but for it's time and for the price the SRT-4 was a great car. I don't know why people have to be so biased. I love STI's but I own an SRT-4 and I would never compare the two because they care completely different classes of cars. And yes the STI is a much better car I've driven one and for the extra 15k I would expect it to be a better car.

  • @FadedRX8 Actually, the 2012 BMW M5 is the fastest production sedan to do the Nurburgring lap. The STI that was tested was a prototype, with alot of non-optional parts. Still pretty fast, just sayin. I love all fast cars, fwd, rwd, awd, doesn't matter to me.

  • @TheStoneunturned The quarter mile proves nothing, your AWD, he's FWD. Take away the launch factor and you would be lucky to be 2 car lenghts on. I don't know what your mods are but I destroy STIs from a roll even though they have a significant power advantage. IMO, I'm not convinced that they deliver the power well. Then again it's all about preference, if you want to be saved by the 1/4 mile, the STI is alright but if you don't like people passing you on the highway, do not buy one.

  • @Turbalt The 2004-2006 sti's have short gearing that isn't really good for straight line performance. Also, even fully built with the best parts in existance, the powerband for the 2.5 liter engine isn't really good for straight races. You'll find that the 2.0L WRXs are much faster in a straight line, not only because of the longer gears of the 5 speed, but because the powerband of the 2 liter is better for straight races.

SRT4 haven't done anything to prove but that a championship car or a contender in any racing environment . What they did is made a car thats cheap and anyone can afford, and that's it.

    FYI I've owned an srt4 and sold it when I realized a regular srt4 driver will race a minivan lol!! srt=FAIL

  • @srt4slow lets go to school then slapdick. sti's are 300hp STOCK to the flywheel. there is a loss from the hp in the motor to the drivetrain to the wheels. the loss is about 25%. so youre looking at around 227awhp. if youre gonna talk shit "go learn something" first. :) PS VF39 is a high spool low top end turbo, it will NEVER EVER go "well over 350awhp" i hope you dont own a subaru because you dont know shit about them.

  • @mobilesuitderka He said 350hp not 350awhp. A VF39 will make 350hp on an STi stage II or around 280awhp. I had one, I also owned a vf powered 04 WRX made 300hp on the 2.0.

  • Great race you guys, they are both cool cars. The STI is a little more spendy and has some nicer features, but the SRT is a great car that was built for around 25k really can't beat the price.

  • those numbers on the STi are false. Says nothing on the turbo, because if its a stock turbo it's impossible to make 340hp. that car is making no more than 300. Guaranteed especially not at 19.5lbs

  • I am a honda guy but I never forget when I bought the srt-4 I took it to a place call RAGE TEK..they have been building and tuning the srt-4 since they came out in 03. The guy that works there he is also the owner (great guy) he said I made a good choice buying the srt because their blocks can take 500 hp. I was like DAMN!

  • i have have nothing against honda ..i have b20 on boost myself along with the srt. I have seen fully built and sleeved b series put down 800 whp not to mention the k24 block with the type s head conbination but here I am talkin about stock honda motors and stock srt-4 motor. Which one is stronger? the srt-4 motor is definately a lot stronger. The srt-4 motor comes with forge connecting rods and eutectic pistons from the factory.

  • The srt-4 is always being compared to evos and sti and it is not in their class. It is in the class of civic si, rsx type s, sentra ser etc...but why isn't any of these car comprared to evos and sti. The answer is simple, they are no where near the performance of evos and sti. The SRT-4 BLOWS EVERY CAR WITHIN ITS PRICE RANGE OUT OF THE WATER AND IS BEING COMPARED TO CARS TWICE ITS PRICE.

  • @supermaniac5 No they are not I will not let my wife drive my srt-4 because I am scared for her life. I have put down 300 whp realibly for the past 80k miles. Honda internals are weak I know because i have boosted them all d16, b series and k. pLEASE don't tell me k series are strong. They are all open deck design which means there is no reenforcement to the sleeves so even with forge pistons and rods sleeves will give out over time. Honda makes great engine and can be realible when sleeved

  • @MrSaadiquesingh what do you mean by sleeved? i have an all motor ls/vtec putting down 230hp , im in the middle of a rebuild and i want to do everything the right way...i took off the head last wednesday and found a chipped piston and a badly damaged sleeve... any suggestions on what to do about the sleeve?

  • @supermaniac5 Sounds like your motor was not properly tuned. For sleeving I would recommend Golden Eagle because I have used them before and had great results. If you are going boost I would say sleeve it get forged piston and rods and arp headstuds. You should have great realibility at high boost levels. Get it tuned on hondata or Neptune. If you are just doing a high compression ls-vtec build then a block guard should be fine along with headstuds,cometic head headgasket. Tuning is must!
