why not just select the apple and place it on another layer? then apply the black and white effect? It should save you a lot more time and it should be more accurate.

Assuming the easiest way to select the apple would be with the magnetic lasso, the borders of the colored part (not necessarily an apple) might not be distinct enough for the lasso to work effectively. Otherwise, in some cases, it might be an easier alternative

@HaggardVidz There has to be something wrong with the adjustment layer. Make sure the little adjustment layer icon shows up on the layer in the bottom right. Look at the video if you're not sure what I'm talking about

Unbelievable that you used that long on that video while you could ony used 2 minutes. I have made a video almost just like it, but its uneccesary to find photoshop on you computer, when its already open, and everyone understand the point while you saying the same thing 300 times.

Just a tip, try to make it go faster, but be careful, not TOO fast! :)

@joecapps1127 whereas I have a D80 with 50 f/1.8 and 28 f/2.8 Nikkors along with a Tamron 18-270 for walk around. My studio lighting alone cost more than your whole kit. Kid, you haven't even hit puberty yet, you should be watching videos not making them. I pay for my university with my photographs, and at (seriously) about 150x the price of yours. People like myself are busy and want to make post capture processing as fast as possible, this method is absolutely too slow and indirect.

Are you 12? We want to hear from experienced professionals not kids. You are not actually helping someone by teaching them an inefficent and wrong method, and will be wasting their time.

Color splash is best and quickest done by masking, or using hue/saturation to remove all colors except the ones you are interested in then using sponge tool to desaturate the other regions of similar color, or even desaturate the whole thing and just history-brush the colored areas back.

Nice tutorial, however, I tried this with a pic from my GF and she has blue eyes, all I was gonna do is color the eyes and the rest of the image stays blk and wht. Anyway her eyes brushed out purple. I tried this several times and the same thing happened, I was sure to follow ur vid closely. It worked ok on several other pics, jus not this one? any ideas?

this is so retarded..you could just convert the image to black and white,and after use the quick selction tool to choose the apples..after you select the apples you just right click on any apple and you press fill-color,and like magic,it brings the color back of the apple!

I believe what you need to do is make your brush's Opacity 100%. In CS3 when you have the brush selected there should be an option to change Opacity on the toolbar at the top. You might need to look around to change the opacity but that is definitely the problem.
