  • At 4:55 the music, melody, chord changes and arrangement here gives me goose bumps. incredible musicianship and really penetrates my heart. Reminds me of old happy times..

  • I had this on 100cc 1975, but couldn't recall this one. Thanks for posting.

  • When pop music meant 10cc onto Sparks, Abba, ELO, XTC Madness, ....then.....what happened?

  • @spalf73 stock aitken and waterman.... That's what happened...

  • @hollowedhead Ha, true - mind even they would be a relief from today's brain dissolving pap.

  • This is truly a 'classic' album that easily sits up there with the greats.

I got hold of Sheet Music at the age of 13 in 1976 and played it relentlessly.

Even returning to it 30+ years later, I remember all the lyrics and tunes without any problem.

    Now that's incredible songwriting.

  • Ahhhhh, Rita Hayworth ((((sigh)))))

  • I love this song. They don't make music like this anymore.

  • Love this. Inventive, intelligent and funny:)

  • Ive taken Lassie for walkies when she was the pup that vaudeville threw up and destiny led her hand in paw to somewhere in hollywood. Now they are classic lines lol. pure brilliance. nothing but love for the memories this album gives me. I was 17 when it came out! ouch :-(

  • nice combo

  • American Idol Wannabees pay close attention. This is how music used to me made.

  • Such a timeless classic of BRILLIANT musicanship.. fantastic vocals & harmonies pls listen to RUNAWAY 10cc to die 4 !! next to this of course... australia

  • This is proper music , not manufactured , written by supurb musicians , the likes of which today would never get past the first auditions for the crud talent shows which dictate who makes or not.

  • i just listened to this today for the first time.. this is awesome. for years i tought this band could only do hits like "im not in love"... geee... how wrong i was!!!

  • KIDS OF TODAY, JUST LISTEN AND PAY ATTENTION ! This is music and these are musicians, not the utter PAP you have to suffer now !!

  • Only 10cc would namedrop Norman Mailer. I always think of Eric Idle and Neil Hannon when I listen to their genius.

  • after all these years - I remember every word

  • Too bad,kids won't even listen to this stuff.They are put off immediately,no autotune,no rrrrapp influence,no Hip-hop beat.I'm turning into my parents ! ! !

  • As the voice comes in, you know you're in for a quality experience. Brilliant.

  • Ok Ok probably my alltime favorite band... and definitely one of their best songs...but what really blew me away was the live Fresh Air for Mama cut I just heard here. Check it out , unbelievable youtube.com/watch?v=ZL6AeTtqOAI

  • Great stuff my friend !!! Thanks.

  • Just love this beautiful track, haven't heard it in years, it just brings back floods of great memories of the 70's listening to 10cc and a host of quality musicians who were around at that time.

  • SO glad to see so many other fans of this LP... my small group of friends and I thought we were the only ones in the US who even knew about it, much less loved it back in the 70s! A truly special record.

  • And destiny led her hand in paw .....

    Fantastic track - amazing band.

  • The piano is what made me love this song.

  • I cannot stop listening to this song! Love it! Love it!

  • I haven't listened to this in years!

    Love it again.

  • No description adequate, I suppose.

  • First time I've heard this incredible multi-layered song for many many years. Saw them live several times in the 70s and they were brilliant in concert - not only was the music unique and awesome but they were humorous guys too!

  • Frustrated filmmakers at their best. AKA: Three Yids and a Yod!

  • Always found 10cc mesmerising - right through to my soul. Sheet Music is classic. I try to treat the music like good wine. I don't listen that often, say every 3 months. I let it mature and then derive the greatest enjoyment.

    .

  • yeah...this is a great 'picture show' of a tune. In the end, you really believe there's 'a dog up in Beverly Hills'.

  • Wow! this has just transported me back to the age when not all pop music was dumbed down, image dominated cat food and creativity time and experimentation were still allowed in the music business. Death to the Cowell Machine!!!

  • @johnc0ffee Just think, in another time and another place Cowell with his small man's syndrome may have tried to conquer Russia and perished on the gallows or some such....so much for fate

  • I love the way Kevin Godley comes in on beat 3 of the first bar of the verses. Great song drummer. I'd love to have seen this live.

  • You missed something special... One of the best live bands I ever saw.

  • @tilleylad - I agree Godley's creativity was a vital part of 10cc (and Sheet Music has more of him than any other 10cc album) but for live work, it seems they really needed Paul Burgess.. see the live clips from 1974 which have been posted here.

  • My favorite track from my favorite 10cc album. Sheet music is in my top 10 albums of all time.

  • I am of like mind, SuperWanderer... great post OMT!

  • Sheet music is the greatest album ever released.

  • Not THE best, one of the best I agree. There's New Boots by the man Dury

  • 4:24 wow

  • 4.24 - goosebumps moment... all through to the end.

  • I saw 10cc in concert in Liverpool last summer. They played this track. Stunning

  • What a blast back to the past. However, to my ears, this music that my ears yearn for.

How could you compare this to anything in the last 10 years ?

    You can't.

This was and is, totally brilliant and creative - as the saying goes "they don';t make them like this anymore"

But If you're reading this, then you know this already, so count yourself lucky you have made it this far without losing any sense of what real music is all about.

  • Most underrated group of all time. Uniquely inventive, imaginative, outrageously talented and funny.

  • @alien8ted that sums it quite up.

  • @alien8ted Along with XTC.

  • @alien8ted Totally correct. I used to play 'Sheet Music' over and over and i still like to listen to it now. Out there on their own they were.

  • Damn, now I have a sudden urge to listen to Baron Samedi!!

  • Sheet Music is their most perfect album. Not a single dud on that one.

  • I have to agree - they mastered the art of Studio perfection. If you listen to this on anything approaching a decent (analogue) set up, you will be blow away

The detail is awesome - and they are so very clever people

  • die gruppe überhaupt

  • the intro to this masterpiece alone is fabulous.

  • Brilliant, clever and witty. Their type of "art" rock is not appreciated by the younger generation. I have said this before on another video, but they weren't quite the same without Godley & Creme

  • i have a brother like that ...echo ..u2 etc.

dosent know that music can be fun too

  • i spent my teenage years loving the music from this lot, i always maintained that their best tracks were not released as singles but kept as album material. thanks for posting Old Mr Time. One of the most under rated, misunderstood bands of the 70's and i thought that they ROCKED....!!

  • sheet music is the one to get

  • this is their best song ...listen for the combs with cig papers 4.25 classic

  • LOL CREME, KEVIN GODLEY, GRAHAM GOULDMAN, ERIC STEWART. Accept no substitutes. [used to listen to this between sets instead of getting laid back in the 80's. michael paumgardhen.

  • I adore this group! And it is one of their best songs!

  • I LOVE this song! The ending is pretty cool.

On my The Orginal Soundtrack it said it started as a 25 minute long song. And then it ended up as a mini-opera rock. And they got the idea for Une Nuit A Paris. It could be fun to hear the 25 minute version of this.

  • They were the English Steely Dan.Brilliant!

  • It was THEY and NOT Oasis OR Radiohead who were the nearest thing we ever had to the next Beatles.

  • Bang on

  • i like the way the wailing guitar (in a comb and paper style)kicks in at 1:59 after "lights action sound" ...pure genius..thanks

  • Norman Mailer...waits..to nail her..grin

  • the bit from 4.25 to 4.38 is probably better than the beatles and was done with paper and combs. thats why i love the band

  • best band ever except the beatles

  • This is the first time I have heard of this band; I really like them. (smile)

    Thank you.

  • grab their first four albums. the best!!!!

  • Exquisite. I bought the first four 10cc albums as soon as they came out and was laughed at by all the Motown loving skinheads and Zeppelin and Sabbath loving longhairs. It was tough being a 10cc appreciator back then. Just listen to this, though, and it sounds as fresh as it did back then. Thanks for putting it up.

  • Those narrow minded people who could not love those bands AND 10CC as well!

  • Their Lyrics were just so clever an quirky. The sort of things you wish you'd wrote.lol.His polaroid and scenario.

  • "I took lassie out for walkies": BRILLIANT

  • Indeed, oh so brilliant. The music is SO clever, varied, dramatic and excellently produced. Several melodies, great key changes and well thought out lyrics.

"...hand in paw to somewhere in Hollywood..."

  • Fantastic song. I love the way Kevin Godley starts the groove on the second bar of the verse - a very underated drummer. So many brilliant ideas in one song.

  • i was born in 71 and love 10cc since iwas six so how long have i been a fan. its great having parents who have a great taste in nusic

  • great video , Godley&Creme and 10cc at its best.

  • Sheet Music - still have the original LP in my loft - along with The Original Soundtrack. Wonderful music from my youth! Thanks for reminding me. Got to get all this stuff on my ipod - that little machine keeps me alive.

    Thanks again.

PS How do I convert FLV to mp3? I've forgotten. :o)

  • From the great SHEET MUSIC album by 10cc. Great Lyrics, great production and definitely not one of your 'typical' pop songs. They just don't write songs like this anymore. The "Norman Mailer" section is incredible!!!! Let there be lights, action, sound...Roll 'em!! Thanks for posting this!! The PHOTOS go great with the song! SUPER!!

  • I agree 100%. It is a track that doesn't immediately grab you at the first listen but grows on you. The best track on the album in my opinion, it is to "Sheet Music" what "Don't Hang Up" is to "How Dare You". As you say the production is superb - Eric Stewart really is a technical genius (not to mention musician and songwriter). They have never got the recognition they deserved, hopefully YouTube is bringing them to the attention of a younger generation :-)

  • Thanks guys, and yea, totally agree that this is Sheet Music's Don't Hang Up. A beautiful song with so many different tangeants and wonderful melodies. Sheer Music was my favourite album when growing up and still listen to it regurlarly and never tire of it.

  • Their music is totally timeless - especially compared to other music of the same era; the writing, musical skill and production just transcends time. This is turning into a miniature Minestrone message board!

  • "Don't Hang Up" is on the 10cc album "How Dare You"

  • Why do you write that?

  • because it is true

  • Great thing you share your knowledge!

  • @magnolia0245 Hey Sheet Music is a Killer Album
