I have seen Chinooks and their bretheren get their bellies wet before... it's a standard drill that all Chinook drivers gets to do. The maintenance crews hate them of course because after that you have to strip the bird down and next to blow dry her clean of all the water that gets everywhere, or she'll a rusting wreck in no-time.
This is the first time I see that kind of loading though... that is awesome. :)
Now let's see the whole thing again... in 10 ft swells. :D
That was the most awesome video i've ever seen on youtube. Can you even imagine the skill it takes the hold that helicopter like that? Freaking sweet!
i have seen a chinnok floating still in sea here in greece for several minutes with seal squad getting out in and over again. Took of normaly than it made a demo of flying with one rotor off. They say that it can land like that with little structure damage. Second best thign i ever saw after the huge Mill 26 flying over my house.
I have a serious doubt it can float for very long, theres a problem with the top heavy roator system and blades oh and the engines are higher than the cabin, yeah it will flip over just as quick as any other helicopter in the water!
v22, the Chinook was designed to float by Boeing. It has to be a fairly calm sea state. Thirty minutes is the the float time. After that water seeps into the bad places. Boeing floats each one before it comes off the assembly line.
Who is the 'us' here? Ur just a fucking kid civilian sitting at home doing nothing to contribute to his country, so shut the fuck up. Theres no 'us' where you are concerned.
LOL OMG you have got to be kidding me!!! You are... by far the biggest retard on here, why dont you do the world a favor and crawl in a hole and stay there you stupid cyber ass hole.
Not entirely difficult from the helicopter pilot's perspective. For what it's worth, the rear rotor of the Chinook is mounted very high- there's very little danger in that maneuver at all.
MW3: Hunter Killer level FTW :) lol

Tail rotor? On Chinook? This is interesting. If you mean rear rotor, it's about 20 ft over surface.

oh and I mean that if the engines are OFF like one of you said.
If the rotors are still turning I know it can be in the water probably as long as it has fuel in the tank!
