For the Japanese, rubbing a bald man's head is the equivalent of rubbing a Buddha statues belly, from what I understand. It gives them good luck. In this case, Kenpachi was most likely rubbing Ikkaku's head for luck on finding Ichigo and fighting him.

And finally back to Ich/Bya.I admit the actor playing Byakuya is starting to grow on me; his movements/swordplay are graceful & strong, but I'm still having issues w/ his acting. Finally the magnificient Senbonzakura reduced to confetti, they did better in Dark Moon.
