At last a Carmen where French is spoken properly at 99.9999% ! The proof made that with hard work you can do it. Garanca is the best Carmen I've heard since Callas. Alagna at last seems to feel what he sings. Mariusz Kwiecien is an astounding Escamillo, handsome, perfect voice,and no accent.

Richard Eyre has proven that Carmen can be played perfectly if rehearsals are done properly.

The only negative point is the conductor who as usual with M. Nézet-Séguin thinks he will miss the last subway

The stage is wonderful, but her voice doesn't tell me much. Nice voice, not a great voice, I don't know how to explain it.... a good Carmen, the notes are there, but I don't find anything special in her singing.

Carmen is a role for mezzo, but the two Carmen I like the best are one a soprano (Callas) and one a contralto (Podles). Strange, isn't it?

What a passion and drama, what a voice! It is an incredible progress in Elina's acting and confidence as a Carmen. When I watched her Carmen in Riga and Terme Di Caracalle, I thought that although she is a great singer, she is not a Carmen. But she have done it! What a capable woman! Brava!!!
