Im mad that they cancelled this building its not going to be built I checked on wikipedia here's what happened.In December 2010 a receiver was appointed to manage the property during foreclosure proceedings by Anglo Irish Bank. In addition, two Chicago firms have purchased the real estate taxes on the property. Due to the major setbacks mentioned above, the project was canceled in 2010.

Best case scenario is someone buys the land at a fire sale price and holds it until the next boom cycle. Chicago is notorious for such boom/bust building cycles.

Problem is, the very odd and project-specific configuration and placement of caisons in place actually makes the land LESS valuable than if no work had been done. I am confident in saying that the Chicago can't support the orig plan which was a borderline proposition even in an overheated RE market. Those days are gone for decades.

@tarzan694 All but cancelled. It would cost $1 billion + to complete, sales stalled at 30% prior to the 2008 collapse (and 90% of those probably wouldn't close now). Shelborne was 1st kicked out of their sales office, then a 2nd smaller office, for non-payment of rent. The land is in foreclosure, Calatrava and half a dozen other interests have filed liens. Kelleher had a $77 mill mortgage on the land, now said to be worth half that. There is no incentive for anyone to help him. It's Dead.
