A little jewel full of sensibility and emotion. That's also the genius of Kate Bush : each song of her is a world in itself wheter that song is long or short, with a rich instrumentation or a simple piano (like in this song)
I loved Kate since I was in my mid teens, I used to play all her songs to my kids when they were small. In the car seats, in the back of the car driving home. My children are grown up now, they appreciate Music and always if asked mention Kate Bush before any other singer song writer.xx
kate is from kent where i live and they have a farmhouse with a big garden ,also vita sackville west had her famous garden at sissinghurst castle which is open to the public so go visiit and listen to this song, kent is the garden of england
Maybe, but its a garden marred by the dross of centuries. I used to live in Rochester. I was very happy there and it was a great place, but so dirty and so violent.
I see kate as a catalyst.. put on this earth to share and spread appreciation of the beauty around us and a compassionate understanding and appreciation of humanity. A linker, and sparker of further good. I am moved and grateful at so much of her work.. an influence from my mid-teens and ever onward (:-) I am 47 now..)
was it true that Mike Oldfield discovered this beautiful superior artistic human being? I spent alot of my teens with her music and influence..lol.. I used to have dance routines to her music with my friends (how sad but true lol)..
It was Dave Gilmour.... her brother Paddy was a session musician who worked with him and asked him to come check out his little sister's work when she was about 16... Dave was so blown away he told EMI about her. Her first few albums had "thanks to Dave G" in the acknowledgments.
@IKnowitAllYeah - No, she recorded her own demo and this was given to Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyde. He recorded a more proffessional one and introduced her to the producer of her first album and got her signed with EMI while she waas still at high school. She released her first album at high school as finished her A levels first. Some of the songs on her first album she wrote at 13. WOW!
@IKnowitAllYeah Oh I just noticed someone had already replied to you. To reply to your other comment. No they were not an item. I am still friends with Dave Gilmour now ex wife of 25 years. So he was I think happily married at this time. She is called Ginger Gilmour by the way and an amazing artist in her own right - google her.
Actually, I'm just kidding....I totally agree with you. I have been an ardent fan of hers for the past twenty years. I wish she would get over that weird psychic/prophetic reading that is keeping her from coming over "the pond" to America and performing.
@armadillozenith I 100% agree with you I wanted to be here at 8 ..I am 39 now.....gratitude overflows my heart whenever I hear ,see or feel her presence xx
i think this was a song kate wrote to go along with a short film about child abuse that never got clearance.pity as i can read into the story that she is telling.
tell it how it is redbear66 that's what Kate always does never compromise I'll join you at that shrine if it comes to that, it would be small recompense for 30years of glorious heart wrenching music.
There are several ways to interpret the story of this lovely song. I think of it as the story of a small girl's hiding place (for hide-and-seek maybe) that later became a secret place to meet her lover when she grew up. It tells a story, it has a strong melody, and she sings it like a goddess. One of her best songs ever, I love it so much.
I was in love with Kate when I was 13 and I still am at 42. If she passes before me, goes home before me, I will create a shrine for her and every day I will put flowers there and give thanks to her for sharing her beautiful soul. OK, I'm going over the top a bit, but not too much.
@wartyflange Sometimes I really love when the best songs are "merely" b-sides... then when I am lucky enough to find them, it's like something special, just for me.
my all time fave kate song, and there are so many to love! this was released as a b-side to "running up that hill (a deal with god)" and also included in the box set "this woman's work" which has many gems and all cd's through 1990...a must have for any hard core fan!
well i think this song is so good but not long inuff, she is so great what a woman wish i kud meet her one day i wood just squeez her daft. its ad over 40,000views nearly all mine [dave]
This one can easily go down in the music history as the most underrated b-side ever. It is a comfort to know all Kate fans think very highly of it. It goes straight to the center of one's heart and never leaves you.
This is a very nice work on a wonderful song, one of Kate Bush's best ones. The moment her child face appears in this video is simply shattering. Thank you for this moving moment !
you've probably been told this a thousand times by now but the childs face is kate when young. kate's child is a little boy,BERTIE,the designer of the sleeve for "king of the mountain"
what kind of sociopath would "dislike" this?! It's frightening to even see there's 14.

I spend hours watching Kate and Nina Hagen videos, they are both phenomenal vocalists, and amazing song writers, but totally different.
As "wartyflang" points out, this was just a B side of "Hounds of Love", and yet it's still amazing, and one of my faves.
