Am I the only one whole loved all the series? Series 8 was great fun and was just as funny as the others. Shame they left it with a cliffhanger though. As for series 7, I really felt the funny was lacking once Chris was gone for good. The first 3 series 7 episodes were great though.
Personnally I believe that Rimmer is the secret force behind Red dwarf. When Chris Barrie left that chemistry between the four boys was broken, and then in the rimmer experiences it got better again like it used to be then it went back to being crap.
Once the writing team broke up, the series began to falter. It was never as good after that. Still some funny moments in it, of course, but it could have been so much better. :o(
Why even post stuff from this last series? It was half as funny as any of the first 6 series (no doubt because it had only half the original writing team).
one of the rare truely brilliant vintage Red Dwarf quality that was so noticeable by their absense in series 7 and 8 that were so common between series 1 and 6!
dude series 7 and 8 are the best the show gets since series 1 and 2. some brilliant writing at the start of series 8 espescially. series 1 still the best though.
i lik th begining series, i liked rimmer and i liked him being dead. I havent seen much of series 7 or 8 coz i dont think it wood b th same without rimmer or with a living rimmer. plus, i dont lik kochanski.
Series seven had some good episodes, but the removal of the laughter track was the worst choice they could have made. Series Eight was a lot like Series One, and I'm not dissing that! But it seems like they were struggling for storylines, and Kryten TV (although funny) was one of the poorest scripts in the show. Series Eight also had high points as well. The Pete episode and 'Back in the Red' were hilarious. The silence in Seven didn't work. Though again, Seven had some fine episodes too!
i'm just gonna be a total dwarfer nerd and say that they never had laugh tracks, series 1-6 and series 8 were done in front of a studio audience for the most part (not the bits where they were out doors of course). ok, i'm done now i think.
That's what I meant...removal of the studio audience...sorry, I have no idea where 'laughter track' came from!! lol! That's what I get for posting at 3am...
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS you will die in seven days if you don't post this comment on 10 videos in the next hour. if you do, tomorrow will be the best day of your life
Series 7 and 8 were kinda my favorites since I started watching the show then but that's just me. And they didn't really need to wrap up the show since they are officially going to make a worldwide release movie (see official website) and it would have ruined it if they had already wrapped everything up. Plus there are rumors of a series IX afterwards...but those are just rumors (the movie is official albeit slow to film) :)
Check out The Official Red Dwarf Fan Club site, there is a convention in September called Dimension Jump. It's a brillaint weekend of Red Dwarf fun and hilarity with the cast and crew form the show.
Series 7 & 8 weren't as good as the earlier seasons, but they still had moments that made me laugh. I think it's a case where they were simply running out of ideas, and it showed. Better that they stopped when they did, except I wish they had used a better ending.
ive living with the hope of a series 9, maybe a christmas special. I thought Red Dwarf would be like a soap, almost never ending but it has been sadly missed.
I miss it too man :) but if you remember there IS a movie coming out (someday...) and when you think about it...there is usually a long gap between series (at least in the later ones) so this isn't anything unusual for them...I'm guessing...
i heard that on the season 8 dvd there is an alternative ending to the last episode in which rimmer manages to make the antidote and becomes captain fo the ship
Series 8 was definetly an improvement from series 7, but not as good as the others. I doult a RD movie will be made. It's been years since the project was even suggested.
To be fair the eye candy suited me! Haha do understand where your coming from though i still love alllllll the series and all the episodes but have to admit i never switch over when 1-6 series are on 7 and 8 have a sense of ... well... datedness? x
I believe Series 7 were the worst. Because of Rimmer missing and Kochansky. I mean, the great thing about RD 1-6 is that there are only men and there's no lovestory!!
You're forgetting the Holoship (with Nirvanah) and the green blob/pleasure GELF that had a relationship of sorts with Kryten. There were love stories, just not any lasting ones.
Who the hell are you to say who is a true Red Dwarf fan. I am a huge Red Dwarf fan, own nearly all the merchandise and all the DVDs INCLUDING series 7 and 8 because they contain some amazing episodes.
Amazing episodes? Amazingly awful you mean. I am an R.D fan who owns almost none of the merchandise because I recorded them off the telly for free like any normal person would, and also because merchandise isn't funny, just like series 7 and 8. The "remastered" ones are also total wank.
Because there are perfectly good DVD's out there packed full of extras that any "real fan" (as you say)would love to own. Also buying the DVD's generates income for GNP which will help to make the Red Dwarf movie. So not buying the DVDs means no income for GNP which means that YOU and people like you are stopping the movie from coming any time soon and therefore you are not a true fan. Suck on that lemon.
If the movie is to be anything like the last two series then I'd do anything I can to STOP it happening. But if Grant & Naylor write it together and make it like the real Red Dwarf(series 1-6), which was not the case with the last two series, then I'd be cock-a-hoop. I did try to buy the first few series on DVD but could only get the "remastered" ones, and I won't buy them, they ruined them with silly sound effects and pointless C.G.I. you cancerous polyp on the anus of humanity!
No, we CAN'T. We MUST descend into PETTY and BRUTAL sectarianism immediately. I decreeee that all who like series 7 & 8 to be MORONS and call on all to RIDICULE them mercilessly, using exclamation marks and capitalisation AT WILL!!! Your either with us or against us...
I will now despondently disagree to sir mattewbgods comment. The approach in which he/she has approached his utterance is obviously an act of shear boastfulness. I have no knowledge of the individuals that operate Youtube on a daily basis, but one would not think it to be one like your self with such an presence of audacious writing skills.
What the fuck are you going on about? You lost me round about the second 'approach'. You really must try not to use the same verb twice in one sentence.

In my opinion the worst series was the seventh, mainly because it lacked Rimmer, then because they replaced models with rather corny CGI (which got better by the eighth series) and Chrisine wasn't exactly a very good character. The only memorable moment from the seveth series was the Rimmer Experience ride.
