Good job on a tough song! I remember trying to learn this years ago and there were a couple of parts that I just couldn't pull off. Maybe I should give it another go, since it is one of my fav fingerstyle songs of all time. Zane
Thanks! You know, I was in the same boat. I revisited it years later, and spent some time on getting that verse-head "jig" part (right after the harmonics) down pat. That's the easiest part to trip up. It's worth revisiting, if you have time. This video might give some ideas to help...
There is no tab for that song, only his 2nd cd has tab (Tender Explorations) and then SliverPlume Waltz and Spring Fever are the other 2 tabs out there for the first cd. Ed Gerhard has a nice tab on The Water is Wide.
Thanks. I have Ed's tab and like that version, but Bill's version does it for me (Water is Wide). I've figured out parts of it, but just don't know DADGAD well enough to get it all.
I have been after Bill to get a transcription Book on his first CD but outside of 2 songs of it being transcribed, we are left to our ears. He has a great flowing Style / technique which I really like a lot. Good Luck.
I am seeing Bill next week in Alabama. Last year he stayed over and cleaned my clock in pool!!!
I have worked up Spring Fever, Miasma, Silverplume Waltz(if you want the actual handwritten tab let me know) and some others off Tender Explorations. I asked Bill to teach me Sugarlands but he said he can't remember it lol. I do a lot of my own fingerstyle stuff, I have a Larrivee also but I chanced at a Kent Everett guitar, he's a local luthier, got a steal on one.
Very Well Played. One of my favorites of Bill's. I need to brush up on it, especially now that it's springtime! Looking forward to more posting. Have you tried Miasma? For those who don't know BIll, he's an awesome guy, very humble and my favorite fingerstyle guitar player. Thanks for posting, very good rendition.
Thanks very much for the kind words! I met Bill once in Charlottesville, and agree with your assessment of him. (Except my favorite fingerstylist is Peppino D'Agostino -- but they've got two distinct styles, and I like them both).
I haven't worked on Miasma yet -- I'm trying to get the Road Scholar up to a quality that I would feel comfortable recording. I have some other Peppino songs waiting in the wings, but they're real finger-twisters, too...
Hah! I did the same. I bought mine at a store called Main Street Guitar & Drum in Charlottesville, VA (no longer around, I'm told), and paid it off over time. I even taught lessons in the store to make money to pay it off :-)
It's a great investment but an even better instrument. Take care of it and have fun!
Fine playing, beautiful tune!

You'll love it! I've had it for over 10 years. It sounded good the first day I played it, and has only gotten better.
