Also I don't know if you have heard the song "home" by kanye, but it was an unreleased version of "homecoming" where john legend does the chorus. I'm with you though, legend should have done this chorus.

yea i agree, and just cuz it doesn't have significant lyrical meaning it doesn't mean he didn't put his heart into it. Like Christian Dior Denim Flow for example. One of the shallowest songs Ive heard from him, but I feel the vibe, and I can tell the song as a whole came from the heart. Maybe the dark part but the heart nonetheless.
