Awesomet! In spite of Don Giovanni being a really mediocre item in the Mozart canon, it is party rescued by this beautiful, insightful production. Great cast, too.
This is the way all of Mozart's opera should be staged

what a bullshit! Giovanni is quite good, but who is that chubby vietcong acting as Leporello? Simply disgusting, not to talk about the Commendatore...which language is he using at the beginning? which kind of production is this? suited for russian nightclub? fuck.
missinterpretation? you are extremely polite, but that's the idea...And where have they found this commendatore ? He does not even know the text of his very small part, and his voice and fraseggio are awful. Yet, good Veronique Gens and Kwanchul Youn.
Sorry for misunderstanding, and thanks for explaining it. Then, I can't say anything about the Commendatore - except he should not accept contracts with this director...
I'm ALL for regietheatre, but in this one, how are they going to keep Anna angry and thirsty for revenge for the rest of opera when she can't get enough of Giovanni? I guess I'll have to find out by watching the whole DVD!
Ha, I get it. "Don" Giovanni... Cleaver, however, like norcalrobbie2 says, the plot realy falls appart when you apply it to a modern situation like this one.
Good idea though, I'd pay to see it. Its always great to see a different interpretation of an old act.
Calixto Bieito bastardized the opera, IMHO. His direction totally messes with the philosophy behind the whole thing... as well as open up HUGE plot holes that anyone who knows the story well will recognize. The direction and the libretto do not match up at all. The performers are great though.
Yes I know, £30 down the drain, I thought this was a decent performance before ordering from Amazon. You can either laugh with this, British production or keep it as a note of your future purchases/downloads (ehem).
What the F is this crap?! My eyes hurt and I am sure that I will be plagued with these images for some time! DieSonneSinkt, this recording must be destroyed for the sake of humanity and for the sake of Mozart. I shall keep in mind the names of these performers in order that I may avoid any of their performances!
Who's that Leporello? He's incredible. Don Giovanni is okay, I guess. But holy god, that Donna Anna is *abysmal*. Honestly, though, the staging has potential---that could be really fantastic. These performers aren't the ones, though.
Ha, ha, ha! This clip is hilarious! The Commandant being drunk? Hah! This modernization of Don Giovanni should be guaranteed to bring more laughs...and more suspense.
One of the best and most convincing productions of Don Giovanni I've ever seen. I have to say though, the Hannover cast (where they also staged this) was better!
On nie jest pijany tylko myli nuty i tekst.Nie wchodzi tam gdzie powinien...no kiepski jest ogolnie.Ale Leporello oraz Pan Juan jak najbardziej na plus!

Regia da neuro-deliri, voci sguaiate come l'intera immagine dell'opera.
