truth about nurses: the profession has so called horizontal violnce which means nurses treat each other very bad. They are the worse kind of raging bitches (excuse my language) you will ever come across as a human being. The next kind are black women. The are the two most misearble kinds of women out there. Just stating the facts.
See nursing nightmares on youtube and see WHY we need not only more nurses, but BETTER TRAINED NURSES for home health care. California is releasing thousands of developementally disabled and few nurses can handle severely autistic population! California families need GOOD cnas and lvns to help keep their children OUT of institutions.
Nursing is the most suck ass occupation a person can have. I made the mistake of getting a BSN, and wasted years of my life getting it. Thank god, the college where I went had a program so I could go back and get a different degree.
Nursing is shit work, you make tons of money for hospitals, doctors, insurance companies, etc, and are treated like dog shit in the process. Three months till graduation, then I throw my BSN in the trash, where it belongs.
Seriously, they need to remove this video. There is NO nursing shortage. I have been putting in application left and right in my home state and boundary states and NOTHING. Not even an interview. I am not a NEW nurse either, I have 3 years experience in skilled nursing care as an LVN. So, please, if you want a job, nursing is not the profession. I should have fun when my loan payments start coming in :-|
There is no shortage of nurses , only qualified nurses. So called nurses are being turned out a dime a dozen by diploma mills, i know iv'e worked with them. As far as that so called nurse in the video is concerned i doubt she knows the difference between salicylic acid and acetaminophen. Focus on the real shortage qualified nurses.
Myth. I graduated 5 months ago from a highly ranked nursing program from a major university in a major city. Guess what no job. I am almost about to pay my student loans with credit cards.
i was going into nursing until i found out that i had to wipe someones else ass and my school goes base on GPA and i change my major to respiratory therapy because there is a wait list for 1 or 2 years and my sister in law is a respiratory therapist and she told me that i get just as much money as being a respiratory therapist than being a nurse and plus i don't have to wipe someones butt. (gross).
With your attitude I hope you never get near a patient! If I don't get my wish I hope you get lots of thick, green, yellow, brown and bloody sputum to make up for the loss of peri care. And may you never be stuck with a health care provider with an attitude like yours. We don't need your cold attitude.
@moberry5 Hey, you MUST be in administration. I have seen your kind at my job. Sit on your ass and make bullshit policies for the rest of us to follow. Nursing sucks.
in the two yrs that i have been a nurse, wiping ass was only done in nursing school. Once in a blue moon I'll have to do it, but I don't mind. What's funny is that most RRT's get tired of being RT's and guess what, they become nurses. I laugh at RT's because its the same job everyday, at least when I eventually get tired of the ER, I can go to another dept and do something else. Nursing is like a big tree, many branches to choose from. Respiratory is nothing like nursing.
don't lie. nursing is dirty work. maybe your not wiping the old demented womans ass but your cleaning around her infected wound instead. Nursing is a joke. You go to one unit to the next, same bullshit. Hospitals intentionally don't hire enough nurses so they can save money. They burn them out and its on to the next batch. Please anyone thinking about nursing. CHoose another "career". I warned you.
I would love to see obama support the immigration of nurses. Seeing him implement his healthcare reform would and promising quality healthcare would be great. Although his needs to also concentrate on how hospitals will staff for the influx of patients. It takes time to train new nurses, and many are retiring soon:)
more than 2 million nosocomial infection (hospital acquired infection) develop each year.
these preventable infections raises healthcare cost by about $4.5 Billion.
it lengthens hospital stay and lead directly and indirectly to about 25,000 deaths annually.
one major cause is NURSE SHORTAGE. with high patient to nurse ratio, nurses do not have time to do hand-washing after patient visits thus carry the disease to others.
Low patient-nurse ratio prevents this from happening.
Can someone tell me why in school and in the books they teach us to call patients: CLIENTS? Perhaps because the healthcare system has profited for year from people's health. We have a very inhumane system going on. Talk about how hard it is to get in a nursing program and how expensive it is to study it.
wow!! thats what i'm talking about!! there are no teachers!! how can we help the nursing shortage if no one teaches. another thing, hey!! hospitals!! hire new grads jerks!! give them a chance!! how can you hire someone who doesn't have "experience" if you don't give them a chance!!

I am a nurse because I love it, even after 25 years. The whole issue of nursing dissatisfaction primarily has to do with the corrupt, convoluted corporations that are really running the industry.
I agree. Check out the video I shot of Bill Clinton speaking here in Madison WI on why Nurses have endorsed Hillary because of her healthcare plan. I also got videos of Chelsea answering a number of questions to students here.
Why am I a Nurse? Because I want to help sick people get better. Because I care. Because I feel good on my way home from work when I think of the people I helped. I made a difference in their lives. When I helped resuscitate a patient who had a cardiac arrest in ICU I was doing my job but every day I walked into the unit, the man called out..."There's that nurse who saved my life." That's why I'm a nurse.
yes its true, nursing job is the most difficult work in the world. what i hate most is that, a headnurse must be qualified for her post. here in middle east, as long as u share the same faith as them. like my headnurse, shes only a midwife, not a nurse and yet shes a headnurse, how did that happened?
I totally agree with the comments about nurses need to be respected and not seen just as ass wipers. We work hard to save lives and expect just a little respect and appreciation. We dont make what we deserve and I think if they can pay a electrician 30 an hour we should be getting paid more. After all we had to go through to get our degrees and the money to pay for it, yea something has got to give.
What if everyone will like to be a nurse? No doctors, secretaries, sellers, lawyers, singers, actress? Everyone different preferences have a place. A nurse might find marvelous to save a life through CPR; alleviate the pain of fractures; treat/prevent dehydration and shock when bloody, nauseous and diarrheas moments attack us. Life and health comes first; dealing with vomits, blood and ass is secondary. THANK GOD THERE IS STILL NURSES. THEY DESERVE THE BEST SALARY AND WORKING CONDITIONS
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If there is a shortage why not lower their standards so all the black ass-wiping blood-mopper wanna be nurses get in that job. I see a lot of black people in hospitals and indians, they're taking over don't they. White people can't stand their own sick kind. Most people at the nursing homes are old white folks abandoned by their kids.
I agree zheadman the job can crush u and you don`t see a way out when on the wards I never used to say anything when other staff members would ask student nurses why do they want to do this job,but i do know.its a bitch pit were good nurses get the good kicked out of them by other nurses who should have left years ago but don`t have the intelligence to think of another job they could be doing. any way I`m getting out .
Nursing sucks bigtime, do not go into nursing. If you want to be over worked, treated like a dog, clean up shit, puke, for 12 hours, put dead people in body bags, see people suffer at the hands of psychotic family members who want let them go. If you want to help pick up 500 pound urine soaked people off the floor. If you want to deal with power tripping docs, asshole managers and hear the word budget several times a day. Being stressesd out to the breaking point, this is it.
Sad but true. Zheadmon's comments that is. There are a lot of good nurses out there who want to help, it's like a calling for most of us. Unfortunately, this profession needs to evolve. In my opinion, this is the only career in the world where you have to deal with so many things all at once. It is back breaking as it is mind numbing. At the end of your shift (12 hrs) you are left to wonder why you chose to become a nurse.
I am hoping to be a help in two years if I pass any of the boards!!..Im just starting to get into the program...I don't understand why there's still a shortage when the salary is high? I DO NOT mind cleaning, wiping or washing someone's tush, mopping their vomit or wash their bloody self. People need help we gotta help, right?
wether the salary is good or not depends on if you've ever had any money. to poorer people it is a lot depends on your experience in life. believe me you will earn every penny. good luck .you deserve a good salary. you are responsible for peoples lives. if you were a plumber or mechanic you'd make $75 an hour.care for someone in their hour of need..start ing salary may be $25-30 an hour.
well maybe you don't mind, but most people do. that's why there is shortage. who wants a stressful, nasty, dangerous job when you can do something better and get payed a lot more? like being an engineneer, programmer or businessman.
nursing ed is not that hard, pay is ok so why shortage???? use common sense and logic. it's fairly obvious.
Why have a shortage when there are a lot of immigrants applying for nursing jobs but lack documents. In fact, there are a number of students pending to get their licenses due to some limitations on some shit. Nursing educators have high standards and its not that easy to get in. They have a lot of requirement bullshit and score shit minimum for acceptance.
First of all there are different areas of nursing that you don't always do that so it may be hard to think outside the box for second to understand that but don't hurt yourself doing it because you might end up in our care then. Just because you are shallow doesn't mean the rest of the world is and how old are u like 45..that is a very juvenile response if you ask me
acctualy you can find a cushy office nurse job doing mostly paperwork, like in the nursing home or home healt or smth, while CNA'S do all the nasty job. It all depends on where you work.
