Let's not forget that in the introduction, CJ was car-jacking a pedestrian and robbed a guy on the street. So what he did in LC was no different than his life in the hood. If his mom didn't get killed, he would have stay in LC. CJ was only looking out for himself and never contacted his family until Sweet called him about their mom's murder. So I don't blame Sweet a bit for behaving that way towards CJ.

Everybody always bagging on Sweet here. Sweet's just looking out for his family in his street. Plus when you think about it, CJ was being selfish. Prior to the events of this story, CJ let Brian die, as mentioned in the cutscene of "End of the Line," and ran away from his street without even so much of a "see you later." And people could use that "escape from gang life" excuse all they want. If CJ really left LS to "escape gang life," why would he go to an even more dangerous city? (continued)
