  • I'm from Hawaii and never seen anything like this here. Seriously where can I buy one?

  • @jefter7676 have GoBananas or Sports Authority bring them in

  • I bought the 14.5 two years ago. Money couldn't buy it if I knew that I couldn't get another one.

  • with version do you got?

  • If only it were on fishing kayak

  • What is with the Hobie trolls? Hobie is a recreational tourist boat, this is a well-thought-out and executed design.

  • How much does one of these cost? And where can I buy one?

  • I'd give you $10 for that!

  • very nice craft. Now it is very nice to add the hydrofoils like this

    craft

    watch?v=uO54ZvDwt18

  • It seems the only way to get a two person pedal kayak is to get a Hobie. Too bad since I like the prop drive idea a little better.

  • WHERE CAN I BUY THESE?

  • hobie is beter

  • @wastedazhell

    @ drreeder2000

Hobie pedal boats seem to use a reciprocating drive, which is an approach that was tried many, many times during the development of bicycles, and always found inferior to circular pedaling.

  • seems mor like a conoe to me

  • Hands free kayaking is the way to go. I have a Hobie Revo and it can get good speed especially with the sail. This Native looks like it can go a little faster than a Hobie Mirage drive with little effort. I guess it depends on what you are on the water for. Cruising around and sight seeing in this Native would seem more ideal but for hands free fishing Hobie is the way to go!

  • Awesome concept! Nice demo!

  • wear do i buy i want one now lol,

  • I'm 6'4" and weigh 235. Will this fit me?

  • hey can some1 tell me where i can buy them/order them and how much they r. and wat store u would b able 2 buy em

  • I want one!!!!

  • The shop I wirk at carries both Native and Hobie... We have trouble keeping Hobie's Mirage Drive boats in stock, but most of our clients are looking for offshore capability. Most of the boats Native designed with the Propel system seem better suited to flatwater environments

  • Fantastic.

I never understood why most human-powered boats make you to use your arms, when legs are stronger.

  • Way to cool. som'm like this on a trailer and a trike , with all your gear in the boat. You could cover land an sea ...

  • How does this boat behave in open sea?

  • Is this great exercise? As in sweating a lot? Looking to buy a kayak that requires a lot of pedaling for cardio.

  • Where do I get one of these????

  • i wanna see someone peddle as fast as they can

  • well done!

    how much does it coast?

  • Seems like you would get a sore back in no time with that seating position and legs relatively high in the air. Is this the case?

  • Nice job of getting around the Hobie patent, but I prefer my Mirage. OK, so I don't have reverse. No biggie. You would be paddling this thing in shallow water. Six of one, half-dozen of the other. At least I can still use my foot scallops with the Mirage drive in.

  • gear it up to as fast as possible XD

  • Oh man I gotta get one.

  • that would be kickass for fishing

  • lazy man...study more...u cam bake that go 25mph or more...study more..don`t be lazi

  • @caralaues lazy man...study more...learn to spell

  • i'm sold, i deffinetly want one, not just any one, but that one, just out of curiosity, i wonder what would happen if you put a motor in the slot? it would be funny as hell to watch, that's for sure.

  • @JoshWhitaker87 Chech out the Native Ultimate Volt which has a trolling motor in the slot

  • Can you buy just the peddle/prop rig? I'd like to build it into an existing wooden kayak.

  • That's pretty amazing. That thing sure hauls ass considering he was peddling at a slow pace. I sure wouldn't mind having one of them. A very well put together little craft.

  • is there one than can seat two persons like the hobie outfitter??? i'd rather have the propel drive instead of the mirage drive ?????

  • @andyweath

i got a hobie outback, the mirage drive is really good, but this is very interesting too, i recon the hobie will go faster though.

i was thinking, could you put like a stainless steel small boat prop on it? it will fly i recon!

  • how much ?

  • Google it.Native Watercraft Ultimate 12 Propel Kayak .2,000. I loved it.Will buy one.

  • Is it faster than paddling?

  • Yes it is faster than paddling. You still need a paddle for the times when you want to move laterally or do some other small movement. But for getting from Point A to Point B, for me, there's no question that it is faster than paddling.

  • @QuietwaterFilms can u pedal and paddle?

  • This was shot behind Rutabaga in Madison, WI. This was Rutabaga's demo boat, which at the time, was all we had access to, as NW had not yet released their production boats.

  • where did you shoot this vid?

  • put smaller crank arms on it. it will make it go faster and you will feel more comfortable

  • @Tojizuka

Short cranks are for short legs. If those are the legs you've got, then short cranks are the way to go.

Short cranks and crazy wide gearing are also used to compensate for the ergonomic problems of recumbent bicycles and their inabilities in hilly terrain. Since this is a watercraft, there are no hills. There is only one gear ratio. The only thing that would make short cranks better than rider-proportional cranks would be if the gear ratio (prop pitch or rpm) were too low.

  • Woiuld make a great lake or big river fishing boat. but nothing i would use for my ocean fishing.

  • Nice video, and a very cool kayak. I wonder how fast a strong bicyclist can make it go. :)

  • I have a Hobie Revolution and i love it while watching this video the Native really lacks in the fishing area A LOT 1The boat doesnt have any stock rod holders 2 there is no under storage for your stuff that shouldnt get wet 3 it doesnt look as stable i can hang my feet over my kayak in the water while im drifting across a spot 4th where are the scuppers thats right there are non what are you going to do when a big boats wake hits you and comes over the bow all i know is my boat will drain nice

  • It's all good. Hobie certainly does their niche well, much like I think Native Watercraft boats do their own niche well. My first boat was a canoe, so I see the NW Ultimate as a canoe and love it for that. I also happen to like standing and poling a boat, for which an Ultimate is designed. Standing also makes sight fishing much more effective. Dry bags can keep things dry and for me offer more options than built-in storage. If bow waves are a concern, I add a front skirt to the boat.

  • I'll tell you this much. I've been looking into the Hobie Mirage-powered boats but this thing looks much quicker. At the very least, it looks a lot more efficient in terms of how much distance you get from each pedal push. For those of us who are looking more for a cruiser than a fishing kayak, this definitely looks to be the way to go.

  • @capp244 You are comparing apples to oranges. This boat has rod holders available too they just aren't on this one. You did pay extra for them on your Hobie. Also your Hobie is a Sit On Top, this boat isn't. That's why you can hang your legs off the side,, doesn't have anytbing to do with stability, its just that you are sitting on top of your boat, not down in it. The Native Propel looks more stable to me. Can you stand up and fish in yours? Apples and oranges.

  • thats actually awesomely fast..amazing , want one.

  • this looks really cool. why even bring paddles when you can go much faster without them? lol

  • cause its good for kayak fishing, probably makes it easier to troll cause u dont need to put the fishing pole down

  • How much was it?

  • i'll stick with hobie

  • It's all good! Sitting in any boat on any water is WAAAY better than sitting in front a computer typing and listening to the winter wind rattle the windows of my office like I am now...

    Jeff

  • like to see it go head to head against the Hobie mirage drive.....interesting

  • Depending on where you live, you might be able to find a shop that has demo models of both and try them out. BOATS ARE ALL GOOD!

I think there are 3 things that are different between the two boats:

#1 - NW pedals like a bike. Hobie is back and forth like a hand saw.

#2 - NW boat can go backwards. You just pedal backwards. I believe the Hobie boat cannot go backwards.

#3 - You can lift the NW pedal unit up and store in the front part of the boat. I'm not sure if Hobie pedal unit can be removed.

  • I own a Hobie Mirage so I know all about those. There are some positives and negative about both. The going backwards option of the Native is ok...Like the rudder system seems to be smoother up and down...I've heard the Prop can get clogged with grasses in shallow marshy areas. Even though the mirage extends 16 inches down you can still travel under power thru about 6 inches of water by half pumping the pedals... native seems to be limited in real shallow water....just wonder about speed of both

  • Very cool. Looks like you can go pretty fast too.

  • Where I can get one pedal like this ?

  • Native Watercraft released this kayak model mid-August 2008. Most paddlesports shops should at least have demo models in stock now, and should soon have boats available for purchase, if not already.

  • Great vid mate! - wonder if they'll be making a pedal tandem model? - good how it goes backwards as well - I got the wife keen to come fishing now!!!
