i think if rationalising doesn't work, it can help to find a physical outlet for the primal response, as that's what it gears your body up to do, i.e. sports or something, to stop you acting in life based on this physical response, which can cloud judgement. i'm a lazy-assed geek, so i just do some boxing on the Wii or play guitar rly hard, teehee
I agree. Am pretty lazy for areobic exercise too, so I ususally go for a long work, that works for me. Used to play guitar and like to sing, but boxing sounds good too...in the heat of the moment you can kick your mouse's ass, ha,ha.
You were responding to a complex acquired fear stimulus, the e-mail. That same e-mail would not cause any response in me. However, if we both were hiking , and a grizzly bear came upon us , our primitive brain would cause a surge of adreneline to flee rapidly. I have been in many bad situations in my life. My human evolutionary instincts have served me well, many times i've had to fight to defend my self, many times i've had to flee, to save myself. Always obey your fear instinct.
indeed Stella, after -some might say- so many years of supposed evolution process, human development seems to remain attached to its very basic structure, fear still lead so many things...btw you ok now right?
nowadays i do an effort to take fear as a reference that allows me to think before react, this way i can have a more coherent behaviour, though there's some things that might bring on again my inner animal.
I always enjoy your contribtutions to my videos. You're right it is tough topic. It would be better talk it trough over a good meal and a glass of wine. Who knows, perhaps there'll be a time and place for that too.
Yes. One would think, by now we should be able to distinct real life threats from "fake" ones. But what are few thousand modern years in comparison to few million years of evolution.
The survival instinct will always be part of us as humans. Anything out of the ordinary can be deemed a danger or threat in our minds. Even a phone call or an e-mail from an unknown stranger.
Remember, a 'fake' threat is only a fake if you're brain immediately recognizes it as not real. If I charged you at night wearing a realistic bear costume, you would scream and run as fast as you could, that's primal fear response. If I charged at you in daylight wearing a unrealistic bear suit, you would laugh, and 'act' scared. That's the modern human brain overriding the fear impulse. Always obey your instinctive fear, it will save you !
Yes, but what struck me is, altough my rational part of the brain recognises a threat as fake (or so I think so), the chemical "fear" coctail is still having a party. But it could be my brain, trough past experinces, recognised this particular info as a night bear suit threat.
I can relate. :) Hope you're alright now.
