Lotta haters come in here and say, "Oh, this is proof that Tyson loses to a prime Ali or Holmes." Really? Fight was scored 119-111, 118-113, and 116-112. At no point was Tucker ever dominating Tyson in any way. No, Tyson doesn't need to KO every fighter he faces in order to beat him decisively. By all accounts, Tyson dominated this fight and won an easy decision against a Pan-Am gold medalist and a solid pro.
@SupremeGodSon Stress. He would rub it constantly leading up to a fight. He just turned 21 and there was so much pressure for him to be the next great heavyweight.
I have seen all tyson fights and i'm sure this was his toughest opponent in his prime. He also said that his left was hurt in the second rd, yet still pulling out to distance...well done Nonetheless btw 85-90 when he was not that awfully bad in private life, no-one was even close
@m9ronaldo LOL! That was actually pretty damn funny. Hey, if Tucker didn't want to fight and all he wanted to do was run and hold, what can you do? A good fight requires that both fighters participate, right? Tyson did knock the Soul Glo out of his head a few times. LOL!
I like how Tucker only briefly mentions that he hurt his hand, and didnt use it as an excuse. Obviosly, Tucker is lucky he ONLY had a broken f?ckin hand, and not a broken pinky toe on his right foot, because he would have really been in trouble then lol
@AbuAmanah wow, y do u name tysons worst fighters, wow ur an idiot. Even Ali beat no names like Tyson. Every boxer in history has faced bad boxers. It's not just tyson
To judge Tyson, u must look at his opponents: Bruno? Douglas? Mercedes? Spain? Johnson? Nelson? Tilman? Mathis? Donovan? Francis? Danny Williams, McBride? Jaco?
Good boxer? Of course! But who did he really fought and win?
Joe Frazer! George Foreman! Ken Norton! Shavers! Liston! Patterson! Ron Lyle! These are real champions, tamed by one man named Muhammad Ali!
Muhammad Ali is the Sun, and the rest are Stars flickering in distant skies; for when the Sun rises, no Stars in the sky are visible
Tucker was great boxer and here he come as unbeatable. On 1983 Foreman ducked to Tucker and given his belt to him. But for all Tyson's bashers Tucker was one tomato....
I didn't see in the fight where Tucker really hurt Mike. He caught him with an uppercut in the 1st while Mike's feet were squared up and he was briefly off balance. After that uppercut Mike went right back to doing what he does best.
@fadethetrade Are you fuckin retarded? Cus never saw a `88 Tyson & could never imagine him to develop that far & perfect. Cus even didn`t saw any of Tyson`s 1st full distance fights, so what is your point- Patterson much better than Tyson? & Morrison is also better than Tyson, cuz he won Foreman :D :D :D
@RaidersStory rooney never thought tyson developed as far as cus would like. Your sarcasm calling me fucking retarded is out of line but since you believe tyson was that good,I forgive your miscalculation of me.I dont believe tyson was better against tubbs and spinks then he was against biggs and holmes because when he got married,it was all over for mike. His attitude changed.
I agree with kb135 tyson would of knocked holyfield out when they were due to meet in 91. He still had it in him and also holyfield never had the power to trouble him then. Truth is tyson was never the same fighter after that jail term he had eroded so much by then. The real tyson at his peak was from 86 90 unbeatable.
@fadethetrade it was tysons problems outside the ring that caused the douglas upset and the downward spiral of his career...if tyson stuck to cus damatos plan he wud of retired 50-0 and seen as the black rocky marciano
Mike seems so respectful here I can't believe it. I remember some of the videos where during live interviews he was talking about "stomping testicles" and "eating children" etc... What was the cause of that behavior I wonder?? Was it the death of D'Amato?
He started acting outrageously after his prison sentence. He came out of it angry at the world and was not in the best mental state. During his upbringing, and under the training of the D'Amato camp, Tyson was very respectful to his opponents and his commentary.
@RegistrationCop: in his late interviews, tyson started talkin about "stomping testicles" and etc because he had just got outta prison. Prison really affected Mike mentally. He was never teh same afterwards. Sometimes i wonder that if tyson fought holyfield before he went to prison, he might have won.
Not sure how Tyson can claim to be street smart, he fell for ever line, hook, line, & sinker, King through at him.. Everyone knows DK is a crook, hustler, thief..etc...
I really feel Tyson would have beaten Holyfield if they fought in Nov 91 like they were scheduled too.. Back then, Holyfield was easy to get into a slugfest with. In 96 Holyfields style matured, & was more of a boxer/puncher.. While Tyson kept going downhill, & reduced to a plodding fighter..
i like merchant tho, he's a pretty good dude for boxing and all its corruption and seediness *(and i love boxing i don't mean that as an insult, but there are a lot of scumbags and guys like merchant, mills lane, sugar ray leonard, pretty much all the principles involved w/ this fight were all solid dues. even tyson w/ rooney, look how collected he is, talking about boxing and not, talking about punching someones nose into their brain, or fornicating, or eating children, no f word even
Yes, just how he asked questions, like he really thinking hard to come up with one.. At least thats his facial impression & body language.. He does ask tough questions & doesn't cater to any fighters ego, which I like.. Merchant is why Tyson left for Showtime.. Tyson/King wanted HBO to fire Merchant, or not do his fights.. HBO said no..
thanks for the info, has their been a HW to unify the titles since tyson (i know that douglas, holyfield, and bowe were undisputed but they were just passing mikes work between them, then bowe un unified em when he wouldn't fight lewis right?) so has anyone unified since then (i never understood why mike didn't go for the unification or fight lewis instead of holyfield in 96. i think he could've beaten lewis at that time, then he could've fought holyfield in 02 and missed both fighters primes
if that had happened his legacy might be a lot different, cos i think that even after prison (while he was admittedly never as good, people were still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt till holyfield 2... god that was his chance to redeem himself and he blew it and i don't understand how he let that steroid bloated slow witted fuck beat him the first time) ne way, if he had beaten lewis and holyfield he really would probably be remembered by more ppl as the greatest... oh wel. shithap
RIGHT! Which is exactly why Tyson had no business even breaking a sweat with Buster Douglas. No head movement=embarrassing loss to a never was Chumpion thats right I said it correctly.... CHUMP-ion. Douglas was a joke. The most underwhelming HW titleholder ever
I thought the fight was a little closer than the judges did (116-112) but Tyson clearly dominated the second half of the fight. Great fight. Thank you very much for posting!
fucking embarassment to the sport, recently they released a vid game called "don king's prizefighter" and i thought, how after all these years and if people didn't know he was a shit then, they certainly do now, how does he still have respect enough, pull enough to get a fucking boxing game w/ his name in it? fucking piece of shit fucked it up for all of us. you know? king is the reason tyson fans have to constantly defend their champ, constantly say how things "should have been"
@kevrs2 No, the scumbag in the background with Bill Cayton. He was robbing Tyson all along and turned a blind eye to Cus D'amato's sexual abuse of a young Tyson. Robin Givens gave him the boot and so he had to run and blood suck off of Tommy Morrison next. Oddly once Tommy Morrison wanted out of his deal with Cayton he mysteriously came down with AIDS and couldn't box for any other management for a while. Hmmmm.
for the record tyson does have a intellectual mind after he got kicked out of school cus got him a personal tutor tyson is clever besides all his antics its just to sell tickets and atlas did have a axe to grind with tyson i watched a video pre fight before his fight with michal johnson and atlas was saying he use to rob old ladies and punch them in the face and he hoped then tyson wouldn't make it prime with his old team was something he could have been the greatest but he threw it all away
Mike had all the physical tools to seriously challenge Muhammad Ali's title as greatest HW ever, but things like Cus's death also played in the role, Tyson just gave an interview a few months ago for his documentary/movie and he answered the question that if Cus had lived a lot of things would be different and that he respected and was scared of Cus.
I"m on a crusade ot change minds about that, atlas was the real key, if cus had let teddy disipline mike over that girl i think things would've been very diff. i mean really how much longer could cus have lived? 5 years? thats just 90, thats pretty much still before tyson's problems really began, w/ atlas as manager/trainer and rooney as co trainer, i think they could've been enough of a pos. influence on mike to keep king and givens away, and calm him down. so i think atlas, not cus, was thekey
That is a very interesting way of looking at it. What would have happened if Cus had let Atlas discipline him? There was no question that Mike needed the discipline. Mike is the only HW in history that had speed and power in both hands. An Ali only had speed or a Foreman had power, while Mike had both.
i've got a scernario drawn up, i can't say too much about it, but mike comes out w/ around 70 wins, i'm trying to figure the # of losses 2 at most, both post 30, retires at 38 w/ no don king, the richest boxer of all time, becomes a famous fight announcer. his distinct voice, if he wasn't crazy. he need to take meds. atlas and rooney would've handled it. boxing is more popular than mma in the u.s. right now, in the world of a good mike tyson, he could've kept boxing great and he helped destroyit
@pakistani4lyfe - look dude - Intellectual mind for fighting yes. For academic purposes no. The tutor was more for show than anything. Tyson is a sensitive guy, with a short fuse and who is easily mislead.....you do the math.
@Freewhopper13 No you see in one of the videos where they critique his life they say he learned 3 years of schooling in 6 months and he had to do that to as a requirement to stay with Cus.
@pakistani4lyfe cus never got tyson a personal tutor, cus would tell teddy atlas and mike tyson, when things at school were popping off, that they shouldnt worry because even if tyson got expelled, he would provide a tutor to get his GED. Well, tyson did get expelled for getting physical with teachers, and cus never got him the tutor. Atlas left cus. Mike was "knocking guys out" so they didnt get him the tutor. Sheeit, mike tried to get his GED in prison and still couldnt get it done. Knowurshit
