  • Mariah an alto? come on! & the C5 ; C#5 ; D5 , Eb5 , E5 , F5 , F#5 G5 live (if we're talking about of her good times) ?

Mariah make the low notes but that isn't her real voice color ! the proof : in the MTV unplugged '92

  • where did you get the first B2

  • @mymusicvidsandrants what the FUCK are you doing on this video?? get a life you dumb troll! seriously! i don't like to wish people dead but if i had to choose, definitely you! no one would care if you died, i'm assuming...

  • I'm a female . And I can sing lower than all of them

  • @BritniiChi I don't think you were born a female.

  • @CDionLive neither the whistle register!!

  • Where can i get the link for "thank god i found you " from 6:56 to 7:10?

  • i like this compilation

  • Mariah Carey is the only person whose low register and high register can't be hit by an ordinary person. ONE OF A KIND, MARIAH.

  • @46-48 where you get that from ?

  • i can't stop watching this video...

    absolutely amazing

  • The most amazing about Mariah's voice is that she is better than the other female singers at both the lowest notes and the highest ones.

  • I think that she needs more power.....! I prefer her whistles! XD

  • the lowest i can go is C3 & im a girlllllllllllll. ((((:

  • lol, no offense but 0:42 was just hilarious sounding :P

  • @CDionLive She has the best usable range. Without whistle she still has nearly 3 octaves (christina might have 2.5 on a good day)

  • @shaunmike Mariah Carey can go as low as a G5 in whistle register and as high as G#7 (as far as what she has displayed in a song live or studio) Mariahs highest in head/super head voice is an E6. perhaps higher as in F#6 (but it's just chirps of those type of notes, like staccato) So Mariahs lowest, is an Eb2/E2. (two notes lower than in this video, but it's in studio) soo Mariah without Whistle is nearly 4 octaves or 4 octaves. she can manipulate her whistle to go lower.

  • @DanielAvilaAGT Whistle register does not extend down that low (the treble G lol!). WR starts for most women/men at E6.

  • @rekupp No it does not. You are basing that theory amongst YouTube videos. most of the notes that are used in videos like this they start from E6. just like most of the belt videos they start at B4 or C5. a belt can extend down to F4 etc. . The whistle register has a different sounds and texture to it. And can be whispery or full... Mariah can manipulate it well. :)

  • @DanielAvilaAGT Do you not understand how registers are classified? They are associated with specific pitches and an individual mechanism. To say that one can produce a note in whistle register in the 5th octave is unheard of. You are wrong and confusing whistle register with the weird whisper voice Mariah does in her middle chest voice (F3-F4), by pushing more air through the vocal folds.

  • @rekupp Nope. Mariah has done some whistle register notes that Descend down to a G5 in whistle etc. do you want video proof?

  • @DanielAvilaAGT Yes. You can not make a claim and not support it.

  • She says she is a contralto because of how low her natural speaking voice is, and she definitely isn't a soprano (her lower register notes would be breathier and she definitely wouldn't be able to go as low). I'd call her a mezzo, she has a strong head voice (albeit not very exercised).

  • whats the song at 4:13 ?

  • @LovableNails open arms

  • That's like saying "Toby Keith high notes"

  • Girls can't sing low notes.

  • @Kenneth14621 did you have the video on mute?

  • I've searched up & down for her G#2 but I can't find it anywhere! What interview is that from?

  • @mAnNyElLaTiNo33 watch?v=ciFVGFkndOQ @ 11:50 :P

  • @WestVoice Thank you so much! Hahaha, I'm making a new vdeo on her vocal profile & that was all I had left to find :P

  • @CDionLive So do I.

  • @CDionLive It's a shame but I love Celine, Whitney,etc too.

  • @CDionLive You don't have to convince me of Aretha's spectacular low notes lol. Her low notes are second to none and I would agree about Mariah as compared to Celine/Christina/Kelly,etc. I like Angela Winbush and Phyllis Hyman a lot and so I usually compare most singers to them and that's probably why Mariah's lower notes don't dazzle me as much. Phyllis didn't make low notes but she had a lower voice.

  • @CDionLive Oh ok. Out of mainstream divas it would be Toni Braxton for me but I respect your opinion.

  • @CDionLive Mariah's higher notes are the ones that aren't debatable imho. Angela Winbush's lowe notes are fuller and stronger than Mariah's.

  • I'm sorry but her low notes are the worst part of her range. She lacks the same excellent control she has in her upper register and mid register and her low notes sound kinda odd and forced. She almost goes a bit too low and it doesn't transition well from her mid register and sounds awkward imo. I'm not saying she can't sing or anything or putting her down.

  • She is amazing on every note (apart from 0:26 in which she had placement issues).

  • in her lower reg. notes aside girl got that souful, full, sultry, husky alto voice(which matches her speakin voice) she's talked in the note of E3 for like one really ling sentence on the shining tyhrough the rain special before she started singing hahahah. but all im sayin that she is a true alto because of her voice. the texture, color, and even timbre(though she can manipulate her timbre for various effects). but shoot i am learning a lot from you hahaha but i still say mariah an alto.:)

  • but i'm just throing that out there.:) umm have a nice day

  • (cont) got light and clear). but even so her true voice is totally alto. i think if people listen to the voice rather then the range then they would get it. i mean have you heard the wind? and do you know where you're goin? and even "all i want for christmas" when she lowered the key(into her true voice). she even did that version at the 2003 disney parade &she slipped down into her alto tone. i mean those are clear signs that she's an alto. but i think people look at the range rather thn voice

  • i dont like her low notes

  • Ive never seen a singer besides maybe aretha who can belt so high and in mariahs case whistle so high and yet have such an amazing lower register. She never weakens or thins out at all!

  • I'm 19 and bass. Its amazing she can go as low as I can and she's a woman!!!

    my lowest is Eb2

  • She is soooo sexy when she sings those low notes. So sexy coming from such a feminine, hot woman.

  • :43 made me LOL

  • I meant E3 lol

  • Comment removed

  • I am an alto too my lowest note is an e2 highest is c6 head voice.I love Mariah Carey.

  • It's amazing how she is once of the best high belters in music but can also go so low... Her range and tonal quality are legendary. Great video WV! :)

  • mariah carey is a soprano, not a contralto.

  • @raigekimaru super soprano

  • @raigekimaru In who's world?!! Contralto.... Ask her

  • @Thkmra

if you're referring to the incident I think you are, I think she was kidding. if you want to hear a contralto, listen to Karen Carpenter or Cher. if you're into classical, you might also want to try Ewa Podles or Kathleen Ferrier. I gurantee none of these singers will sound remotely like Mariah Carey (her timbre is bright and her passaggio areas are those of a soprano)

  • @raigekimaru Um....NO!!! Mariah's stated NUMEROUS times she is an Alto, and prefers to sing low-mid range..Always had..but she COULD sing higher, and indeed her high-belting/whistle became something of a trademark of sorts, something she laments at times!! But anyways, this issue has been settled LONG time ago. Mariah's voice is not bright at all!! Lol, have you heard her speak? It may not be as heavy, or as deep as say Toni Braxton..reason she's a Lyric Contral-alto..like Brandy~

  • @Thkmra Yes, but she doesn't have as much control in the lower register as she does in the chest/belting register. She has the agility of a soprano, but the bottom of an alto. I'd say she's a mezzo.

  • @rekupp I so agree.

  • What song is that at 2:38?

  • @KyoHanjin "Band Introduction" from her Charmbracelet Tour :)

  • She always plays around with her low notes on stage since like ever! im pretty sure she has gone as low as she has on studio which is an Eb2. 2 notes lower than the low notes on this video, and it was so easy for her to do the G#2 she wasn't even trying! A-M-A-I-Z-I-N-G!!

  • Mariah has one of the best lower registers of any female singer ever in terms of tone. In terms of resonance, I think only Aretha Franklin can rival her. I honestly think Mariah may have hit the lowest note of any female singer in the world (that I know of).

  • Holy crap, she's amazing. I'm an alto too, but the lowest I can go without hurting myself is only an E3... and even then it doesn't sound very good. -.-

  • what song is the C#3 at 2:08 from

  • @CDionLive I agree. When it comes down to it, Mariah's voice is one of a kind. She can sing as high (if not higher) as Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, & Leona Lewis, and she can also sing as low (if not lower) as Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, & Alexandra Burke. Vocally, she's the total package!

  • @superx57 She actually sings about as low as I can in fry voice... and I'm a man -.-

  • @superx57 Mariah's low notes are not as good as Toni's. Mariah's lower register lacks the control Toni's have.

  • awesome!, almost in male!

  • when is 4:54 and 7:32? 6:31 is her worst emotion performance..

i think all low notes are in here cool.

including the american idol clip and star spangled banner xD

  • when is 3:03?

  • g#2 ..?? which minute ..??

  • @DanielAvilaAGT wow hey could you please post that? The F2 and F#2 i mean... Pretty please?

  • Do you know where you are going to has pretty low notes good job tho

  • Great video. But mariah has gone to an F2 and an F#2 , the F2 is from my all remix , it's the beginning of it tho. The F#2 is from ma live performance of hero sometime ago

  • great compilation congratulations and thanks.

  • great compilation congratulations and thanks.

  • Id put her in my alto section....i feel thats where a lot of her power would come from

  • She seems more of a mezzo to me though.

  • The lowest i've ever gone is a G#/Ab2 and that was in glottal fry! Wow...she has a nice low register.

  • i love the yours live on th today show 2003

  • she has the tonal quality of an alto but her range fits for a soprano

  • but she is a mezzo

  • @bryl17 Exactly! Mariah can dominate the lower register but the higher? :) SHE´S AMAZING!:) & real SOPRANO :)

  • When and where are those 2 B2's with the pics from?

  • The first one, The MTV Interview I think, I'm not sure if I still have the file, if u want it, tell me... The second one is from Vision of Love Music Box Tour

  • Thanks :) But what year is it from?

  • Music Box Tour? 1993

  • But where do you find the G#2?? =)

  • I Love the description of this video. ^.^ a sentiments from a devoted lamb haha

  • What note mariah do in Somewhere over the rainbow in ending? the low note to the high?

  • 2:20-2:31 is her Charmbracelet concert in MANILA Philippines :)

  • she must have one of the best low registers. definately top 5. And the thing is she was hitting these notes in her prime not just when her voice had aged like Arethra.

But i think her low notes are a bit too resonant in that they have this booming and sort of airy quality to them.

  • 2:25 SANG MARIAH!!! =D

  • I love the "you so cold" intro

  • Great video LoVe!!! :-) Enjoyed it!!

  • Please Mariah Carey's Chest belting, falsetto and whistle register!

    Love your videos!! =)

    Mariah is the best!!

    MCfanforeverXD!!

  • Beautiful low notes!

  • I love her low register especialy in You and I!!

  • Comment removed

  • I was thinking of making this lol :P Good job

  • LOL... Thx

  • The low note in "Intro" song is really great, totally luv it!

Her lower registrer is almost impressive as her whistle register!

@WestVoice, What is the difference between an Alto and Contralto?

For my understanding: a Contralto(Toni Braxton) has naturally a deeper timbre than a Alto (Mariah).

    What do you think?

  • An alto is a person who sings in the alto range and is comfortable in the range. A contralto is also about timbre, vocal range, struggles on high notes, etc. True contraltos usually struggles on high notes especially in chest. MC is naturally a true contralto but the fact that she trained herself to go so high both in chest voice and whistle causes confusion to her vocal type LOL but the term alto is accurate since it only means a person who is comfortable in the range unlike contralto.

  • Thanx,do you have any example for a Alto and a Contralto singer?

  • It's really hard to classified... Contralto = Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Cher, etc... Alto = Mariah Carey, maybe Brandy, Beyonce, etc.

  • Ok I see thats what I thought too,but isn´t Beyonce a Mezzo?

Yep Brandy sound like an Alto, same Rihanna.

    Thanx.

  • Beyonce alto ?

I thought she was a mezzo soprano.

  • SHE IS

  • Bey is an alto? i thought she was a mezzo soprano?

  • @VaunTV alto is really a choir position; or a contralto with a mezzo timbre i forgot where i saw this at, but Beyonce is really a Full Lyric Mezzo Soprano

  • Lol i know alto is a choir position im in the choir :) but im a bass lol...

And thanks i knew she was a Mezzo lol

  • Beyonce's an Alto?

  • @shacks29 Toni Braxton, Anita Baker,Kelly Rowland's full voice is in the alto range

  • i love her Bb2's and that Eb3 at 4:30...

she has a very solid and very strong lower register. a TRUE alto

  • Very true

  • @Libogzxh shes more like a sorprano!!!

  • @asianpersuasion08 she isn't a soprano. she's a self-confessed contralto....i think she's more of a mezzo though. ...

  • @Libogzxh I'd say more of a light lyric soprano.

  • @joewhite31 Mezzo-sopranos have darker, heavier tone. Her tone isn't that dark at all compare to Celine Dion or Beyonce who are actually real mezzo singers. She has a low speaking voice similar to contralto, however, her singing voice isn't.

  • Mariah Carey...the ONLY LYRIC CONTRALTO in the WORLD who can surpass the abilities of most sopranos!

Mariah Carey...the ONLY LYRIC CONTRALTO in the WORLD who can go higher than most sopranos!

Mariah Carey...the ONLY LYRIC CONTRALTO in the WORLD who has a WIDER range than most sopranos!

    haha

  • @Libogzxh wrong

  • @Libogzxh But...she's not a contralto in the truest sense of the world. A contralto could not belt up to a G#5. She's more of a very flexible mezzo-soprano. You see, the middle voice type (baritone for guys and mezzo-soprano for women) are the ones with the largest ranges, especially the ones that have lower-leaning voices (such as Mariah). Most super-range singers you're going to find are probably in those voice types, and true basses and contraltos by DEFINITION cannot sing high.

  • @Wagnerlover777 heller hehe not to interrupt but um just because contraltos are not known to belt to G#5's why wouldn't it be possible for one to be able to do that? i mean i thought voice types were classified by the color of the voice(which hers is that of an alto if you listen to her true voice) not the range? and you have to remember that she's been practicn with her range since she was little and her mom did help her out soooo. if anything her voice got deeper as she got older(bt her belts

  • @MrButler124 Well, it all comes down to power in certain registers. Mariah can certainly HIT very low (no doubts at ALL about that), but while she has more power than most would, her notes below F3 tend to be breathy and a little weak. I personally am a baritone, but can hit bass notes without pause. However, a true bass can whip my butt at anything in their own register. Mariah is an excellent singer, but her ease of access lies in the middle, not the bottom of her range.

  • @Wagnerlover777 hmm i see what you are saying hahah but i think she has the greatest ease in her upper reg(chest). it's just so effortless and very well placed plus it's butta hahah. but i see the low notes but i mean you can be an alto or bari or even base but have some off low notes. i mean is it all about the range and how high(or low in this case) you can go? i mean im stickin with the sound of her voice which is the tone of an alto. your statements are true bt she does have more ease

  • wow this is awesome from LOW TO HIGH Mariah make's me chill! tnx for this WestVoice

  • You're welcome :)

  • she slayed her B2's & C3's lol.. Loves her lower registry.

  • Exactly, her C3 from Emotions was just 10 days ago LOL
