Seriously? A "microbiologist" sounds like A FAKE. what university did he go to? He was displaying the food to the people.. real microbiologists wouldn't waste their time displaying like a host at a diner party on a television show. MSG and all of its Cover up names (hydrolyzed proteins, etc) has been proven as a excitotoxin which kills brain cells! duh! Alzheimer's? #1 cause MSG! Just look up Excitotoxins
Epic fail on their propaganda. The effects of MSG does not occur until hours after ingestion and this propaganda failed to prove MSG doesn't cause obesity.
MSG Syndrome is REAL cause if I eat in a restuarant that adds MSG (even if a bit touches my food) I get deathly sick..sweats, heart racing, and it's extremely scary. Took me years to figure out why this was happening. There are major flaws in this "experiment"
Dear All Morons who believe this could possibly be true: The Food Network would never have invited people to this study without informing them of the MSG in the food. It is called informed consent. They would have been sued if anyone who has a sensitivity ate it and became harmed or worse. Doctors know it can cause fatalities. That automatically weeds out all those with known sensitivities. Therefore the entire premise of this episode is complete bullshit.
They're not trying to prove that people with MSG intolerance can have MSG, they're proving how MSG can affect normal everyday people who are influenced by health claims on packaging and avoid MSG perhaps unnecessarily.
The people they chose for the experiment knew they were going to be eating Chinese, and they thought the experiment was to show the "Food Network how they like certain dishes." Any rational person with MSG intolerance wouldn't want to be anywhere near free Chinese..it translates to free sickness for the rest of the day. The test subjects are not yet intolerant to MSG (they won't feel any symptoms), this is not a controlled experiment, don't take their claims seriously.
If they were really using MSG in this experiment, it must have been in loooow doses. Gee, I wonder who funded this whole crock of shit anyway.
Companies put MSG in their foods because it makes their shit food taste better, you get hooked and you keep buying their product.
MSG is poison, AND it's addictive. It is not a flavor enhancer, it is a drug. Avoid it, and your body will thank you. I've lost 10 lbs rapidly because I cut out MSG from my diet, and the weight has stayed off.
MSG Safe? LOL. Try telling that to my dad. If he eats ANYTHING with MSG in it, he experiences vertigo, migraine, nausea and occasional vomiting. I talked to him the other day, and he's been getting migraines every day for the past week, and he was baffled because he thought he eliminated MSG from his diet. I had him read the ingredients of the "Natural" cereal he's been eating, and it has "Natural Flavors" listed in the ingredients...AKA, MSG and other shit they're trying to disguise
FFS this is bullshit i get a lott of problems with my body , i cant think normal, i get hyperactive, i get speak problems, i cant sleep ,IT SLOW DOWN MY SPORT PERFORMANCE , FAKERS
The bad press originated from a few people that obviously got tainted food (cleaners or even traces or rat poison may have accidentally contaminated the food...it happens).
The best tasting chinese food has MSG added...doesn't bother me at all.
its a stimulant! thats how it increases flavour, by stimulating the temporal lobes (taste, smell memory) hence if you have temporal lobe epilepsy (too much stimulation) and eat msg you will have a seizure, its stimulates the exact wrong spot
Correct... it also aggravates OCD and Tourettes in people like myself who have either or both conditions.
This show is nonsense.. It wasn't just "one guy and a headache" MSG was tested on animals in laboratories and proven to cause damage to brain cells.
The use of MSG in baby food was also discontinued in the US in 1970 when the amounts of glutimate that were being used was well within the harmful dose range for baby's immature, undeveloped brain.
2g per day is the maximum recommended dose but it could be less in the most sensitive people. (I.E. epileptics, people with OCD and/or Tourettes and people with a diminished BBB (Blood Brain Barrier).)
Funny how it doesn't mention any of that in this show...
In 1987 the Advised Daily Intake of MSG was 0-120mg/kg body weight.
You're not going to get through to anybody. It's like a religious crusade. They can't afford to acknowledge reality if it conflicts with what they want to be true.
