@FUSSYMUAYTHAI You are exactly right. The Bee Gees weren't even a disco group. Every song on that soundtrack were groups or singers who jumped on the Disco bandwagon. The Trammps were the only one. To my knowledge this hit came out in the late 70's and I remember i was in the park at a basket ball game with my friends I must have been 13 yrs of age and they was playing music the park was packed and there was a boy singing this song behind me and he sound just like Eddie Kendricks..and I developed a crush on him...from dinging this tune...

@riitade644 Yes, this is a great dance song riitade 644. I bet we crossed paths at some of those NYC clubs back in the early 70's while dancing our ass off!
I loved the temptations movie. I had NO idea the trials the group went through. Maybe cuz their music made you feel like everything was alllllllllllllright.

The first time I heard this song was at house party in The Bronx. I was in Junior High School...early '70's. Actually hooky party => Loved it then and still do, and now I'm a teacher so it all worked out.
I was born in 1976, and I watched my parents do the hustle in the house.. However I came across this song this past summer... AND I LOVE IT.. I can truly bust out a sweat to this song.
@rflpta: try the free youtube to mp3 coneverter, i think the name of the company is dvdvideosoft. you then just paste url of youtube video and bam, you're downloading like a motherfucker in an instant ;)
You and me both. when I was a DJ at the 2nd floor and the Stereo Lounge/Side Street in the Bronx I would play this all the time. We didn't have an extended disco mix then so I had to segue back and forth to extend this 2 minute disco hit.
Yes, I worked as a DJ until 1975 when I started playing at the Stereo Longe/Side Street disco. In 1977 I opened Januaries in White Plains NY and in1981 opened Habitat in New Rochelle (the old Lollipop) on Main Street.
Small world. I hung out at Januaries starting in the spring of 1978 thru that summer. (I was 18 then) I do remember the DJ there at that time (Richie) . I always thought he was great. He played a lot of "undergroud" music.
When I first opened Januaries I was the DJ. I got too busy with the business end and I initially hired Ritchie Trotta as a DJ who use to work with me at Side Street. He later became one of my bartenders and I hired my good friend DJ Ritchie Settino who I mentored and he did a great job. Sadly we lost Ritchie about 9 years ago. I've been living in St. croix, U.S. Virgin Islands for the last 20 years but I do miss my disco days. Most people know in those days as Frankie "Peep".
It was Ritchie Settino. I am sorry to hear that. I recently corresponded w/Tony Amato ( DJ from Peachtree's who also worked at Januaries I think at times) and there is supposedly going to be a Peachtree reunion sometime in 2010.) Frankie "Peep" sounds familiar but I'm not sure.
Ritchie, Tony and I were all friends. In fact I'm doing a disco trivia on FB right now and Tony is one of the participants. I mentored Tony in his early years as well. A bunch of people from the Second Floor and Peachtrees are participating. I give the name of a disco song, a hint and they have to give me the artist. It's just for fun between a bunch of old friends. Yes, Tony filled in once in a while at Januaries. He use to come and visit me in the DJ booth at Side Street.
Crazy how ~30 years have gone by so incredibly fast. I appreciate those days more than ever now.Funny, I just went a bit nutty to find out who sang the song "nowhere" from 1975. Tony used to play that back in 1980 at Peachtree's. Bobby Morales just played that a few weeks ago at a "Disco Reunion" in Yonkers.
Yes time has flown by. I use to play "Nowhere" back in 1975 at the Stereo Lounge. In fact I use to play it back to back with the other Hokis Pokis disco hit "Swing". They were both the same tempo (bpm) and segued beautifully back and forth. One of my other favorite back to back mixes back then was the Philly Devotions "I Just Can't Say Goodbye & "Hurt So Bad.
I had a listen to those songs and they have a Philly flare. There is so much early disco soul that is rarely acknowledged ie.Detroit Emeralds, Faith Hope and Charity et al. I am more proficient with later stuff (Cerrone, Moroder, Patrick Adams etc) and thereafter. You certainly know more than I do.
Yes, there is atrendous history to disco music. Most people only became aware of disco music after the movie "Saturday Night Fever" was released. My most enjoyable years as a DJ were 70 to 75. In those days we really had to work to find good product. We would even drive up to Canada to get Canadian and Europen imports. In fact the best disco music came from that time period but it wasn't like the late 70's when every artist jumped on the disco band wagon.
It just came to me that when you mentioned the Detroit Emeralds, that when I opened Januaries the background music that I chose for our first radio commercial was "Feel the Need" by the Detrit Emeralds.
The Detroit Emeralds' Feel the Need along with Fantastic Four's Gotta Have your Loving are 2 of my fav's (they were also on the same label ..as well as King Errison I think?) . I know the music after Saturday Night Fever was commercial, but it still beats the hell out of 99% of any dance music that your hear ~20 years, if you can call it that.
On another note, do you remember a bartender at the @nd Floor, Michael Santizzi? I know his brother Phil from the gym.
Maybe he had a nick name. The bartenders that I remember are Bobby adamo, Paul Rocuzzo, Maddie ?, Ski, Michael Santizzi just doesn't ring a bell - it's been a lot of years. You are right that it was commercialized and so predictable but it is definitely good dancing music. I still prefer the disco music from the early 70's.
I don't know Bobby Morales but we're on the same page. I know from experience because I began as a DJ when it was an "underground" thing and I ended the disco scene in 1982. So I ran the full gammit!
Can't help it. Used to dance to this at Pegasys, Tagariis, The Late Show in NYC in the early 70's. Everybody rocked. I still miss the dancing so much. I'm 57 now and still can do the moves!!!
Love Eddie Kendricks!!! Best dance music ever!! Used to dance my ass off to this at the clubs in NYC in 72/73. Clubs like "The Late Show" "Tagarris" and "Pegasys". Anybody remember these???
Thanks for sharing this rare version! All the early clubs in NY and Miami played it ('72/'73) and the dance floor would always get packed. This was always my fave song. Thanks!!
they still play this track on body and soul, shelter type parties, and believe me it still f ing rocks...hearing it in a club with hundreds of sweaty people all in a trance with the spirit ,its like a church ritual..

Fantastic post Souliban! Thank you very much....Just wondering where this brilliant 'Disco Mix' comes from? Is this vinyl? So you have a year please? Thanks again
this song is bitter sweet to me. the temptation needed him and he needed them. i love this song but it would have been a bigger hit with the group recognition. this song is tough. an all time smoker.
One of my favorite songs, Im a Dj and wish there would be more songs like these one

this song is bitter sweet to me. the temptation needed him and he needed them. i love this song but it would have been a bigger hit with the group recognition. this song is tough. an all time smoker.

So good to find the old favorites. I remember listening to it on 8-track as a teen in the 70s. LOVE this extended version.

Eddie saw what was happening a long time ago. I listened to his songs since I was a teenager. Long time ago. Pray for America. We're gonna need it.
