I do like La Divina every time I listen to her it is new for my ears.... perhaps becouse she did a clear pitch on the words.... Fantastic! One of the greatest sopranos on records.....

Wonderful singing, but not quite at the level she reached in Milan a year earlier. Now that was a performance!

Yes,at Recital Martini e Rossi 56 Maria reached higher top,but here,with strange or bad audio,it' possible listen to the metal of her'voice. Hamlet's madscene was also sung by Maria 58.

1958 is slightly different though, for she sang it in French instead of Italian. I consider the 1958 LA performance just about equal to 1956. The high notes aren't quite as secure, but the musicality and artistry are amazing (though she achieved more bewitching vocal colours with Italian). As you probably know, she also goes higher in the upwards chromatic scale near the end in LA (just like in 1956).

yes.. around this period she had alot of problems with her sinus, and she had a cold... BRAVA CALLAS!!!
