Golf? Are you kidding? The ball is on a tee at your feet. Not for nothing but you seem a bit uneducated. Not only do you have trouble expressing your ideas via English you make terrible assumptions and you use terrible analogies. Golf? The strike zone is not at shoe top level as such the golf swing and the baseball swing have very little to do with each other, that is unless you are Happy Gilmore. This is a joke.
@max66bhs what kind of idiot are you, when it is obvious pujols a guy not on roids, is a rotational hitter and whats his average been every season in the league, over 300 oh my god, motto of a 200 hitter is to rotate, your right if they just stand there and spin, but if you would go back to first grade and get hooked on phonics you would read that i said weight has to be transferred forward, linear hitting is the same weight transferred forward, but with linear hands go straight to the ball
@max66bhs giving the bat less time in the hitting plane than if the hands follow everything else in a rotational pattern where the bat is inside the hitting plane for almost the entire swing, i do not know how much more i can dumb this down for you, that is the definition of linear and rotational hitting, HAND PATH TO THE BALL AND THE PATH THEY TAKE thats the difference i could take two identical kids, teach one linear hitting and the other rotational and the rotational will hit better
@max66bhs than the linear and he will have less strike outs, but im done with this stupid argument you obviously have no clue what a swing is at all, you must be a pitcher, hopefully you aren't to stupid to do that, good luck hitting 200 with that linear swing havent seen a pitcher hit that high except big z
@max66bhs the only reason chippers back foot comes off of the ground hear is because his hips started the swing and had to rotate, thus the momentum bringing his back foot off the ground, you want to call me uneducated learn to fucking read, i said it is NOT the same as a baseball swing but has the same principles, weight has to shift forward and everything rotates with the club or bat following with the inertia to drive the ball, this has nothing to do with balls moving or sitting on a tee
I'm glad you mentioned that it's not just rotational and not just linear movement ... the load and the stride is really the linear movement, the rotational movement is from the hips and the shoulders it's simply impossible the not rotate these parts... I think the most important element is to prevent the hands from breaking forward before the hip and shoulder movement.
Like you, I don't like the terms Linear and Rotational as they don't aptly describe the difference in the two theories. What you describe in this video is pure "Rotational" mechanics. In general the rotational coaches teach that the hips and core power the swing, and the hips begin rotating before the hands are taken to the ball. The linear coaches teach that the hands lead the swing, and the hips follow. Both theories have rotational and linear components to them.
@azmatsfan Ok I got ya, thank you for explaining that. I teach that the hands do not lead the swing and instead come after the back elbow starts to lower into its slot and the back knee has started the rotation of the bottom half getting the bat on plane with the pitch early. The swing is definitely an interesting discussion.
Wow you're not very smart are you? Look at the hand path genius. There probably isn't anyone in the game with a more rotational swing than Chipper. And if you think you can generate as much power with arms and wrists as you can with hips, core and legs, then you obviously don't understand human anatomy either. 90% of what defines rotational hitting deals with hand path and swing plane. The forward movement of ones body toward the pitcher is not part what defines linear style hitting.
@AmpLogic I agree he rotates...all I said was that he moves linear towards the pitcher during the stride. Every hitter will drive off their backside into foot stride. Once his stride foot lands all forward movement stops and rotation begins. The bat path moves slightly upwards. I don't think you understood what I was saying. I never said you use your arms and wrists to create your power. I'm not sure where you heard that.
@AmpLogic I don't use terms like "rotational" hitting or "linear" hitting...They are made up terms that in the end don't really mean anything. I teach what almost every good hitter in the major league does. If you want to call it "rotational" hitting or "Major League hitting" that is fine.
@TouchEmAllBaseball Everything I wrote was in response to the comments made by max66bhs a few posts down. I have no issue with anything you said in your video. However, there are most definitely 2 distinct styles of hitting, regardless of what you call them.
The fact that Larry's foot comes off the ground at contact means that he is still moving forward, during his swing to meet the ball. Why else would it come up?
Yes, he is. He stands far from the plate, He uses his bottom hand as much or more than the top, depending on the pitch, he strides to meet the ball, he has is back foot off the ground at contact when he times the pitch correctly and so on. If Jeff Bagwell is rotational, which he is then Larry here is the poster boy for linear. The only way Rotational hitting gives you more power is if you are on roids. Just wait till the end of this year...no roids no hit.
This is Chpper Jones and he is a Linear hitter. He moves to the ball until his swing is extended, at which point he leans back against it. Which is why his back foot continues to move forward during the swing. His front foot touches down and all his weight moved, against it towards the ball. As the bat goes through it carries with it all the inertia his legs create. The second guy is a rotational hitter and now that steroids are gone all the rotational hitters will fade.
@max66bhs hes definitely not a linear hitter. rotational hitting gives you more power. you should find out what the real difference between rotational and linear hitting is. rotational hitting means you move forward until you plant your front foot, then you rotate
@max66bhs your an idiot, ive read some of your comments on here and you have zero idea what you are talking about, dont bring roids into this conversation cuz it has nothing to do with it, i challenge you to watch a video of ted williams and tell me he doesnt have a rotational swing and try to tell me that guy was on roids, same with saduharu oh the guy that has the most homeruns in the whole world, chipper and everyone else in the MLB are ROTATIONAL HITTERS, its what they teach
@Dswana2 Really, I guess rotational hitting has always been and has nothing to do with Roids? Ted Williams was the only guy who could rotationally hit for average and power and as a manager he struggled because he could not understand why his players could not hit as well as he did. As for Chipper, I guess George Brett was a rotational hitter and Frank Thomas and Mike Piazza and Lou Gehrig and Eddie Murry and Rod Carew, all rotational, just like Larry. Try looking again and maybe read a bit.
@max66bhs just because i feel like it: Joe Mauer, Ken Griffey Jr. Jose Bautista, Andre Eithier, Buster Posey, Matt Holliday, Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Vladimir Guerrero, Aaron Hill, Albert Pujols, Ichiro (he isn't standing still and does it), but again i say YOU'RE, YOU ARE an idiot, worry less about correcting grammar and more time keeping your mouth shut when you don't know what YOU ARE saying.
@Dswana2 Now, now, I understand that being correct is troublesome to you but lets look at the facts. Do rotational hitters step into the ball? NO. Jeff Bagwell was the poster child for rotational hitting and he did not even pick up is front foot. Do Rotational hitters stand far from home plate? No. Barry Bond, Canseco and McGuire, more poster children all stood right on top of the plate. Do Rot hitters lift their back foot off the ground at contact? No. They rotate on their back foot.
And on and on. What you have today, not that the Roids are gone are a bunch of guys who can not hit if all they do is Rotate so now they are getting back to moving towards the ball, having a rigid front side, stepping off the plate a bit and so on...all aspects of linear hitting. Larry, as show here in the video is a linear hitter as is P. Fielder and many of the other names you have posted. The only reason they call them rotational is because the fools that teach hitting don't want to look bad
@max66bhs the reason bonds canseco and mcgwire stood on top of the plate were because they were pull hitters, so why not stand over the top of the plate if you cant hit the ball to right, and you cant get beat inside, thats a no brainer, to swing rotationally doesnt mean stepping or moving forward the reason bagwell never moved his front foot because his stance was wider than any player ever, all he did was transfer weight to the front side and then rotate, it is not linear to do so
also, in a linear swing, the hands go straight to the ball, bat goes and everything else follows so the time the bat is in the zone to hit the ball is something like this (..) compared to rotational when the bat is in the hitting plane this long (...........................) it is why the hitters chest is facing the pitcher at contact, just because weight is transfered to the front side by a batter moving forward has nothing to do with it, linear hitters can do that too, its all on hand path
look at photos or videos of ruth and stan musial, and ralph kiner, brooks robinson, ty cobb, honus wagner, shoeless joe, guaranteed every single one is on their front side at contact hand path is rotational and their weight will shift to the back side after contact is made, so like i said you have no clue what you are talking about, a great example would be a golfers swing, if you took the club head straight to the ball how much force would you have behind it? 0 now loop or ROTATE it around and
@Dswana2 After contact, their back foot re-planted but at contact it was in the air. Rotational there is not step towards the ball or back foot rise. Chipper, here, in the video, which is the point stands far off the plate, has a long stride and his back foot comes off the ground at contact. This is linear hitting. Not Rotational. The reason this is called rotational is because the fools who teach hitting in the MLB have nothing now that the roids are gone. Listen at the 3:20 mark in vid.
and its crushed down the fairway a mile, not saying its the same as a baseball but has the same principles, my point is you should try pitching, leave the hitting to the people who know what they are doing
@Dswana2 And just because I feel like it...the word is, "you're." It is known as a contraction, or the shortened version of the written or spoken forms of a word. The one in question includes the two words "you" and "are.'
@max66bhs first off, the last time i heard bubble head used i fell off my dinosaur, second off, roids have NOTHING TO DO WITH ROTATIONAL HITTING, exhibit A fitting cuz its Albert Pujols, linear?..... NO CHANCE his bat is in the hitting plane way too long, oh and when you look at pictures of his contact point i believe... yes rotational what do we have for the english major tom, oh a whole list of players that are also rotational and not on roids, what a swell prize, will be on next post
Good job, if a person tells you that they just rotate around then they were not trained correctly that is not what Epstein teaches....linear to heel plant then rotate around. look up on you tube sports science the physics of hitting....
@abfive thanks..Yeah I agree with you. I hate when people fight about Linear or Rotational...most MLB hitters use similar hitting mechanics. You can call it anything you want. I just like to call it good hitting mechanics.
Good video. It's definitely a mix of both.
