  • His classic good looks transcend any time period. The color photo at :50 could have been taken in the late 1970's. The music goes well with the images of Clift.

  • great video with many rare pics of Monty. Thank you for making this one.

  • he truly was the most beautiful human being on the planet.

  • He was very hot. Definitely one the best looking men of all time.

  • @droolet: the music is from the soundtrack of the movie "Somewhere in Time" with Jane Seymour & Christopher Reeve. Very beautiful songs befitting Monty, I believe:)

  • what music is it please...

  • Hand down my favorite actor. Thank u for this great tribute!

  • But I think Mark Harmon is too old now to play Monty. I can't think of anyone as young, handsome or as talented that could do a Monty biopic currently.

  • A movie about Monty's life should be done, starring Mark Harmon, who bears a strong resemblance to Monty.

  • James Dean worship this guy..

  • Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful tribute to the marvelous, beloved Montgomery Clift.

  • Monty...I adore this man...

  • What a wonderful collection of pictures! What a beautiful man! RIP, dear Monty. How sad that when you are remembered nowadays, it's more for your life offscreen than your incredible talent. You are not forgotten!

  • Monty is the best of the best. He will always be my favorite actor.

  • thanks for sharing .Monty Clift was so talented and beautiful.

  • This is one of the most intense and moving tributes I've seen!! I had already seen in the past, but it is always exciting!

  • que homen lindo, pena que era gay

  • Happy 90th Birthday monty ,I am sure millions still see you when they are watching your movies.our love for you will be always in our hearts . I love you monty.Happy birthday.

  • Lovely!

  • wow you could not have chosen better music, and like monty it touches the heart.Lovely pictures. I think monty will be always in his fans hearts , no matter how may centuries pass. monty i love you for ever. thanks for shearing

  • Thanking you graciously for this wonderful video! :)

  • Montgomery was a genius when it came to acting, but he hated films & the whole film industry & all the falseness that went with Hollywood, pity his life took such a sad turn and his demise was so slow and tortured, I never tire of this beautiful music can anyone tell me what it is?? wonderful tribute to a wonderful human being.

  • Monty Clift was one of the handsomest, and most talented actors Hollywood has ever produced. I never tire of watching his sensitive face and subtle acting style. Two of my favorite films of his are The Search in which he is so unselfishly kind to the young War orphan: and From Here to Eternity which simply breaks my heart every time I watch it.

  • Monty was a great guy. its ashame only had him around for what seems so little time

  • I recommend you the biography about Monty by Patricia Bosworth. A very, very good book *

  • Where did you get all those pictures, man!!! Monty wasn´t just an actor. He was an artist, an ICON...

Man with a soul and vision.

  • It's a very difficult question... I think he was a very tormented person because his personal life. Liz Taylor desire so much to married him but he only could be your one of her most dearest lifetime friend.

  • @starskhutchgel

i think thay however loved each other much more none can imagine. Maybe Clift loved her much than her husbands (or anyone) loved her, she loved him more (absolutely more) another person in his life. That he was omosexual was a different, very different thing. I think "Bessie" for him and in his heart -beyond sex too- was really different: not simply a woman, more than a woman, more than a man could be.

  • @crosssover They = Clift and Taylor

  • ('they', not 'thay' o_O)

  • Yes., indeed. Sometimes Hollywood industry is very unfair. For instance another example, to me, is Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia. I also love Gregory Peck -who won the Oscar- but I really think that Peter was sublime.

  • I agree with you.

  • Great tribute to my favourite actor Monty. Well done cadebra1961! I love the music as well.

But there's one mistake - the pictures from The Search are not from this film but from Big Lift. You may know that.

  • SUPER actor

  • its ashame he was a great actor played a really good part in from here to eternity still cannot believe after all this time he as gone to heaven at such an early stage in is career

  • he went to eternity. Very earlier.

  • lo adorerò per sempre. era bello da fare male...

  • Soprattutto la sua bellezza aveva un'anima profonda, colta, sensibile: almeno da quanto si possa percepire di lui

  • thank you for wonderful video!!!!

  • he really had the most beautiful face of hollywood and of the XX century + he was so talented (it's so rare for a handsome man). his eyes - it's just an ocean of emotions inside them. he was gorgeous

  • Most beautiful face of 20th century ( and that includes women).

  • You found very rare pictures! Wonderful video, and the music is perfect!

  • Que hombre mas bello!

  • Great tribute to an overlooked actor. Until the drugs, alcohol and car crash he was right up there with Dean,Brando and Newman. Shame to lose him so young, but atleast we still have his great work in film to keep him around.

  • He was better than all of them, despite his tragic death at such an early age.

"In a way I hate you, because you've always been better than me." ~Brando to Clift

  • Wonderful photos and accompanying musical selection. Thank you.

  • which biography do you recommend to buy?

  • an actor of great intensity. sadly, he had a strong taste for liquor. a bad car crash in 1958 spoiled his good looks, though he still was cast in films - the director would work around his 'bad' side; one side of his face was paralyzed. his last film,' the misfits' has him cast with marilyn monroe & clark gable. all three would be gone within a year of its release. in it he plays (true to his life) an alcoholic with misgivings about his sexual preferences. the music is by john williams.

  • His last official film was in 1966 -- The Defector -- not The Misfits. Gable, Monroe and Thelma Ritter passed away within after completing The Misfits - NOT Monty!

  • Thelma Ritter is dead in 1969!

  • ooooookkkkkaaaaayy sorry.

  • That's OK. Don't worry.

  • his car accident was in fact on May 12, 1956...in the movie Misfits he did not have any misgivings of sexual preference..he in fact had "mother" issues!

  • @smeiliff

    what does it mean?

  • just clarifying film plot of "The Misfits"... Monty like his character Perce Howland had issues with his mother...quite possibly an over bearing and hard to please person... Can be viewed in phonebooth scene when Perce is talking to his mother. Nothing noted in The Misfits regarding Perce's sexual preference.

  • thank you! :)

    ---

I agree. His mother was a very difficult woman, i think, my opinion is that her personality caused many problems in Clift, in his 'self meaning' and in his relationship with others, women and men.

I've read - no more than few lines however - in Capua's book that, more, he maybe underwent an abuse by theatre people when he was a teen.

I don't think his choice of sexual preference was free and intimate.

    - i'm sorry, i can't speak english well, my lexical choices are awful.

  • @crosssover what this lovely music

  • Thats probably true. The entertainment world is full of homosexuals who like to take advantage of young men in their early teens. Their sin is very great before God. But even these people can recieve forgiveness in Jesus Christ.

  • Si beau et tellement triste ...

  • monty,quel talent,quel présence,quel magnétisme,UN ACTEUR DE LEGENDE,INOUBLIABLE !!!!°°++°°+°++°°°°°°++++°°°°++++°°°++++°°°+++++++°°°°°°

  • Montgomery Clift was agreat actor, but he looked always sad.I wonder what behind

    that sadness?

  • He had a complex personality, but from what I read was a beautiful person. Read his biography to understand.

  • i also think he was!

  • Beautiful Tribute To A Beautiful Man!!!

  • wow what a great tribute. Thanks for posting

  • "Somewhere in Time" appropriate music for a beautiful souls such as Monty Clift.

  • I believe he is so under appreciated, I'm writing a college term paper on him and james dean drawing parallels on both of them. It's surprising how many books and films and references are dedicated to dean while monty has so few. At least everyone knows who knows Monty knows who Hollywood's first rebel truly was. Eat you heart out dean and brando.

  • Wow...where did you get the childhood pictures? I've never been able to find any.

  • I got them from several different biographies at my local library; one written by Robert Laguardia, one by Patricia Bosworth & one by Barney Hoskyns - good luck in finding these & good reading!

  • Oohhhh. I should have thought of that. Thank ya! xD

  • Thanks for sharing. He was so great!

What a lovely (and sad) music. It's a movie score, right, but from what movie?

  • The movie is Somewhere in Time with Cristopher Reeve (SUPERMAN)

  • Hello, I´m a peruvian girl and I´m a big Monty´s fan. I´ve seen almost all his movies. He was the best. Superb. Gorgeous. A terrific actor and the most beautiful man on the screen. When I watch any of his movies I just can´t apart my eyes on him. I love you Monty. RIP

  • Thank you for this!

  • I think 3:55 is my favorite.

  • The music accompanied the images touched me deeply. A great talent!

    Hello Monty

  • Wounderful Video Best On Youtube the music in the back goes great witht the cilp

  • very handsome actor...he was great in the film "From here to eternity", wasn't he?

  • Extremely handsome man!

  • Beautifully rendered. What is that piece of music?

  • Thank you, letemp...the music is from the soundtrack of 'Somewhere in Time', a Christopher Reeve/Jane Seymour romance drama. A very good movie indeed!

  • Nice done, thanks for showing.

Together with Jeffrey Hunter the perfection in face and Monty was a real good actor.

  • In his uniform in the picture the Big Lift

he's in Germany, and it's before his

accident. You can see it in this, thank you!

  • A truly uplifting and moving presentation of a truly beautiful and unique man. WELL DONE

  • .....oh from "Somewhere In Time". Thank you for this video so much.:)

  • Beautiful. John Barry music for sure.....

  • What a way to remember him by, thanks

  • Good choice of music!!! Such a beautiful melody suitable for a beautiful man!

  • Love tribute .He will live on in film but such an early death.Such a difficult life.Pity

  • Monty was a beautiful child who became a beautiful man...an incredible actor and human being. I know as I feel that spiritual connection with him.I wish he had a better life. Wish I could wish him happiness in person. Hope God is taking care of him.

Thanks for the lovely tribute that traces his life.

God bless you, Monty and you are happy to know how much you are being still loved!

  • Hot damn, the man was fine!!!I loved him in A Place in the Sun and From Here to Eternity. His eyes were soulful...

  • this is a great video.

he is such a gifted actor. no one has ever measured up to his acting skills.

    a legend.

  • such a great actor, so talented .. but what a dramatic life .. drugs, closeted homosexual, beating up his boyfriends, S&M parties .. a tormented soul trying to escape his pain ...

  • Wow--I didn't know all that. Is that in a biography?

  • What a hottie

  • love his work. so emotionally raw and truthful

  • You captured some very stunning and rare images of the beautiful icon...

  • i always love him i think that hes te most b eautifull man ever, he and liz taylor, the two most beautiful couple ever......

  • He has thoughtful look. What was the reason of his death?

  • Read a biography of this great actor and understand many things!

  • thankyou fora wonderful video montgomery clift was my favorite movie star along wth paul newman but montyalways was first

  • What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful actor, a wonderful human being, & what very moving music, sad to look at when you think that his likes are with us no more . Thanks for such a beautiful video.

  • How did you know Monty 2076 Custer?

  • Monty was of another time and era, those of us that knew him found two people at one time ..the adolescent and the man...intertwined with this was the great artist that Monty was. it was atribute to his acting that when you were with Monty he would project at times a great calmness and understanding, though below the surface he was in varying states of tumult most of the time. He was very gracious to my wife and myself and he really believed in Chivalry for Monty in the end was a true gentleman

  • Take a look at Monty in the fight scene in Red River. Youll know what I mean and yes there will never be anyone like Mr Clift. Don't worry I'm his biggest fan!

  • I do not see anything of Monty in Tom C. Monty was an original from head to toe.

  • That was so nice! Monty was such an amazing actor have never seen anyone quite like him!! It was nice to see those images of him growing up but you can't help but feel so sad when you think of all that went on in his life!! A lovely tribute to a great actor...there will never be anyone like Montgomery Clift...love him!

  • Oh Monty, you were too beautiful for this world! I know I've said THAT too many times. As I loved him, I have also loved his friendship with Liz Taylor. I find such delight in the photographs of them together, they were simply soulmates. If he had lived, I could picture them old and wierd together, still the best kind of friends.

  • Achingly gorgeous man and a first rate actor. Such a sad later life though huh ? Thax for this !

  • You're welcome hubbell! They sure don't make them like Monty anymore. Monty could have had a better life, but his long-time shrink condoned his drinking and drugging, probably to keep him as a patient for as long as possible. Monty should've listened to his friends who cared, so that he would have been happier & lived longer. What a shame!

  • Beautiful <3

  • Thank you RiverLove. I swear I get the chills when I look at him. He was beautiful indeed.

  • You're most welcome :) He was amazing. One of the most beautiful people to grace the Earth. Have you seen all of his films?

  • I've seen most of them, except for Lonely Hearts, Freud and the Defector. I'm sure those are available through Amazon or EBay though. Did you know he turned down 'On the Waterfront' and 'Sunset Blvd'? among others. He was very picky about what movies he choose to do!

  • Yeah, I read in Patricia Boswell's bio on Monty that he turned down those films. I always thought he would have been wonderful in Susnset Blvd. I loved that movie, but Monty woulda made it great. I haven't seen The Search! It's so hard to find-did you ever see that one?

  • "The Search" is my favorite Clift film. Point of interest: It was filmed and released before he became famous. After it was released, a soldier approched director Fred Zinneman and asked, "where did you find a soldier who could act?" How is that for a compliment?

  • Turner Classic Movies shows it sometimes. I have seen it several times and cry joyful tears at the end. Try the Turner website. It may even be available for sale.

  • So you're an Aussie, hah? Cool, I love you guys! Yes, Tom Cruise does look so like Monty, like in The Color of Money! Plus he is a good actor as well. Unfortunately with the $cientology, it's giving him a bad rap. I will send you a regular e-mail to discuss further, my fellow Monty lover!

  • Yes I totally agree with you on that one. I live in Australia, so the trek for me is alot longer. We love Monty so much even though he did'nt love himself. He was definately a gorgeous, sensitive, neurotic, tortured man. All the things I love about him. There will never be another Montgomery Clift, inside or outside. Does a young Tom Cruise remind you of him though? That bit on the tribute where you only see his eyes reminds me of Cruise's eyes.

  • Most people showed the photo at 1:44 and asked who it was would say Tom Cruise.

  • Wanna here my story? I have pictures of him on my mobile phone. 7 x 5 of him and liz on my display unit. All the documentaries on him, 15 of his movies. Bought to much on Ebay. My friend made up a jacket with his face and Monty fan club on it. No whose obsessed? Oh by the way I make my family and friends watch Monty movies with me (whether they want to or not) ha ha.

  • But he's such a pleasant obsession, IMO! Yeah, I got my boyfriend to watch Red River and A Place In the Sun with me a few times. He was impressed with Mr. Clift as well. Monty could act circles around most of the actors today, for sure! He was amazing!

  • Yeah, my boyfriend said he'll take me to New York one day and see where he lived on 61st street and his grave site. I sometimes wish I'd been around in the 50's. It seems such a cool era. Wher'e Montyholics!

  • I know, I agree with you tracy! I always feel I was better suited to have lived in the 50s. I believe that People were better then, overall. I live about an hour from NYC, one of these days I too would like to make that trek and see where he lived & is buried. I would leave some nice flowers for him. Our poor, sweet Monty.

  • I'm planning on going both places tomorrow or the next day. I'm feeling pretty crappy last couple of days, and I think a Monty Clift communion might do me good.

  • Thanks again tracy! The music's from the movie 'Somewhere in Time' - Christopher Reeve starred in - found it at the library, actually! I know, I am obsessed with Monty also, haha! I have a couple of pictures of him taped up next to my computer. He was possibly the most beautiful and sexy actor/man that ever lived, in my book! Liz Taylor was lucky to have know him, I'd love to talk to HER someday!

  • Where is this beautiful music from? Love this tribute. Visit it alot.

  • Thanks tracy! I loved Monty for years now. He would have been 86 years old!

  • This is a beautiful tribute to Montgomery Clift and is my favourite. Thank you. 41 years today RIP Monty.
