Earnhardt 3... that aint the government...a man can say stupid shit all by himself...the government didn't make football fire him, corporate ad men did... no government at all...
I just heard his music for the first time last night on the pc.I found it f'in great! The lyric style remind me of a Neil Young or Dylan, its like here it is in your face, think for a change!!Great stuff.
his dad is the novelelist larry mcmurtry of, "lonesome dove", "terms of endearment", "horseman pass me by" (made into the movie "hud") fame. young james here actually had a cameo in tom wolfe's "electric koolaid acid test" (as a baby kissed by neil cassidy"s girlfriend when the magic bus stops by .)
actually, john mellencamp produced his first album. he contacted father larry because of hud, when he (mr mellencamp) was working up "falling from grace". complex and fascinating dude, this young james is.
I guess I take it for granted I live in Texas and have seen him a ton of times. I got to see him years ago in Austin with Towns, One of the BEST shows ever !!!!!!!save your money and come to see him
Fiddleysteve - save your pennies and come on over. This band's live shows are amazing. And they still play clubs so it's always intimate and everyone is dancing.
Picked up a CD of his the other day, the suger hill sessions, it's the first I've heard of him and living in England these singers and or bands are difficult to get hold of and I have to say he is one of the best musicians I have ever heard and some great lyrics he writes as well.
Just a shame people like him don't get notice yet rubbish pop groups are clogging up our airwaves and our charts.
Save your pennies, come on over and catch their show - they tour a lot. It'll be worth every cent and you'll see and hear the best of U.S. music. His shows are dancin' crazy.
You would think James would be well known. He has been doing this for a long time. There is no one better. Yet who gets noticed? The world is crazy, but as long as McMurtry keeps working...I'm happy.
It is less than six months since I first heard James on MVY Broadband Radio and it was only than I discovered what I was missing. Brilliant music! Brilliant story telling in his songs. 60 acres Brilliant song one of my favourites. I am in Ireland and I have no idea how well known he is here. James I have all your albums and cannot wait for your new one. Thanks for the enjoyment!
I just heard of James Mcmurtry today and was blown away by "We Can't Make It Here". Not the greatest singer but his voice resonates with truth and honesty and I like his country-bluesy guitar licks. I'll keep watching for more from this guy.
I'm a hopeless James McMurtry junkie. Man, quick as lightning he can cut straight to the heart of real situations that nobody else I know of seems to ever think about writing about.
Damn good. I love his music. The writing is impecable.

The best of the best. His music embodies the emotions behind each song he performs and his voice captures the characters to a tee.
By far my favorite musician.
