End Nafta and Cafta. Those trade agreements are what happened to American jobs. When people expect a free college education and utopia, the money has to come from someplace. Most corporations DO have tuition reimbursement. End the federal Reserve and quit payin
I thought the free market balances itself out IF and WHEN a Big Business Fails...Not get bailed out because the FEAR of too many jobs being lost. When a big business fails, that leaves room for smaller businesses to grow, thus continuing the growth, encouraging more jobs to be filled, so on and so forth.
How sad we think without these empire big corporations we can't survive...
Lets make the mature decision to stop sucking on this Big Gov't TIT so we can have our freedom back. And Dignity.
@ErocNelson88 sadly its not even the bailouts of GM and whatnot that was really bad. the bank bailouts, the bad loans, the allowing our industries to move out of country, to import so much without tariffs, to allow our companies to bank in foreign lands, to not have an education fund that corp's have to pay into, to not have employment rights, to not have a better home buying / selling system.... thats where we need more change. to bad that word lost meaning a few yrs back...
i think we should all start to try to show an effort to pick up the trash in detroit. protests make a statement but i think that showing some effort and real concern for the city by cleaning it up as much as we can would make a much deeper impact .
agendas & structures are being put together---this has gone down at every Occupy meeting I've been to in the D so far. I actually LIKE the fact that there are NO leaders---there is no star to build the movement around or focus on, which is actually refreshing for once. The way a consensus is built at the meetings is that everyone's imput is sought, everyone/some people either agrees or dosen't agree, and a decision is agreed upon---it's very socialist, in a way. Folks shout, "Mic Check!" to speak
Basically you just have a bunch of lazy trouble makers out there intermix with people that might be sincere in their efforts. I feel for people that have lost their home, hoverver, many people traded their equity over ther years for new cars and fancy gadgets. 1% of the people own 99% of the wealth because they have done 99% of the work, alone with sacrifices to get them where they are.
@alz123alz Are you sincere in your claim that 1% of the people do 99% of the work? What kind of work does this 1% do? Do they do all manner of work, or just trade stocks and manipulate money, or do they manufacture goods and provide services? What do you think is the problem with 99% of the people? How can we get them to work harder, so they too, can be rich?
Excuse me, I'm an activist who went out there to see what going on at the Occupy Detroit movement, and the people out there were working people, unemployed students (like myself) all kinds of people from everywhere out there. Some of the first occupation meetings before everything really jumped off were held in our group's office with bunches of students. The bottom line is that this whole Occupy movement situation is that it is a work in progress--people are still working it out.
How the hell do you know what kind of people were there if you didn't bother to get off your ass, get the hell out there, and find out? I'm sick of these stupid armchair opinions about what the movement is about by people like you who are too damn lazy to do their homework and are so damn quick to blow off anything without actually THINKING about it and getting the facts on it. DO that for yourself, please.
This is a work in progress---agendas & structures are being put together...
No, ALL the people didn't lose their homes only to bad-decision making on their part (even though that WAS a part of it in some cases) A lot of folks here in Detroit lost their homes mainly because they got laid off, so of course they couldn't keep up the payments, especially when their unemployment and savings ran out. It dosen't help that Michigan's Republican govenor (Snyder) dosen't seem to understand how to fix the problem except to cut,cut everything.
NO, 1% of the people own 99% of the wealth because at this point you have other people working under you to maintain said wealth. And a lot of that wealth was probably inherited---not everybody had to work to get it, let's get real now. The bottom line is that Wall Street got sent a blank check of millions of damn dollars from Bush when the economy crashed, and basically sat on their asses and got rich off of that, while regular working folks lost homes, jobs
@Thebuttsinferno i just watched her give a great speech at the great lakes now summit. yesterday she was lunch speaker. she made those ppl real uncomfortable. maureen taylor is great. i've been trying to find some video for her but its oddly sparse. she's commanding in a real-person type of way. the summit wouldnt allow filming due to PBS broadcasting it, but the PBS site only ran it live - no video archive...

End the Fed. End the wars! Quit bailing out banks and force GE to pay income tax. Most corporations have tuition reimbursement already.
