I think this version is even lovelier than the recorded one I heard on another clip. I think it's the horn section that adds that extra bit of magic to it.
Nice to know his son (Auther Jeffes) has restarted the group (PCO) and is playing this and other PCO tunes as well as his own compositions. As good and true as you can get PCO isn't just being used as a name, PCO is BACK..Check them out and enjoy just as I did earlier this year.
I love Avicii's remix, and I think Mary & Max is a beautiful film. However, I did not hear this song from either of those. I heard it as I was falling asleep on my Arcade Fire pandora station [very random] and when the strings entered in, I swear my heart skipped a beat and I momentarily stopped breathing. Melodramatic, but completely amazing, and this has been my favorite song since.
@bostero111 artists sample other songs. you think someone who stole something would make it a little less obvious and not call their song Penguin...be logical now.
The first time I ever heard this song, it was background music for a PBS special on the World Trade Centers. I had originally thought the music was made for the show, so I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever hear it again, let alone know who performed it and its name. Absolutely stunning work. It is definitely shiver-music.
This is one of the only things that can cheer me up on a bad day, and I have had many many many gut wrenching days... it's just so .... you know what,I can't even describe the emotion! tragic somehow? just the way it all starts from one small simple melody is amazing :/ I found this in max and mary a film that moved me more than forrest gump (which is pretty hard to do). btw this is coming from an average 13 year old girl who has done her fair share of mistakes.
I recognize this from some TV commercial. Too bad, really, because it sounds to me like the sound (or soundtrack) of corporate America....not the art that it rightfully is. That's what happens when you sell out to the man.

I first listened this music while watching "Mary and Max". I liked it so much that I started searching for it in Youtube. And since then, which is close to 24 hrs, I must have heard it some countless number of times. Music is the only entity which does not have any barrier.
actually...forget that, could someone just tell me the violin's notes/part on here?? could you start at beginning giving notes and timings?? much appreciated!! :)
helloo im from Argentina !!! i like this song very much ! sorry my bad inglish... :S TE FELICITO MUCHO !!! (congratulation) !! un beso grande desde chubut, patagonia !!!
Thanks for posting. The core of the group in this clip are still together as 'The Anteaters', (long story) playing this tune and many others. Do a search on youtube, there's a couple of clips of us liv, including 'Found Harmonium'. Best wishes The Anteaters (formerly of PCO)
thanks for the comment. it's great that you're keeping the PCO music going. judging by the number of people that view stuff on youtube you should be doing very well. best of luck!

in a bbc studio in bristol, uk. someone I knew was working on the programme. it's not like a normal concert - sometimes they do more than 1 take, sometimes they keep stopping part way into one of the pieces and starting again. but they like to have a live audience.

That 1 little dislike is a mistake. Major mistake. That person doesn't know what the hell he/she is doing.
