I have both of these problems. At first, I was absolutely mortified because I was paranoid that everyone noticed one breast was larger. I tried doing all the techniques of feeding off the smaller side more often, but it never helped.. It still makes me self conscious sometimes, but what can you do? I guess I just accepted it and tried to get over it.
Target seemed to have a nice selection of "padded" nursing bras. At least, they were more padded than the typical nursing kind. I remember it had front closure and the cups snapped at the top. Just look out for pressure points that could block the ducts and cause plugged milk ducts. More people are asymetrical than symmetrical--pregnancy or not, BF or not. Avoid the striped shirt...lol! I have been involved in Women's Health Ed for close to 10 years and I hardly ever see "perfect" breasts.
I tend to have my breasts fall uneven sometimes too. I nurse on the side that feels the fullest. And, I wear nursing pads because, it makes me feel more secure about my chest.
my boobs look disfigured half the time,, guess what I do, NOTHING.... IM ONE PROUD BREAST FEEDING MOMMY. ITS VERY TIME CONSUMING AND IT WASNT EASY FOR ME. My baby boy had a hell of a time latching on.
lol to funny but I know what your talking about I always have cleavage on one side and not the other but what i try to do is nurse her on the one that feels the biggest and sorta massage the top of the breast while she is eating to encourage the milk to go down in that area so the cleavage is minimized i hope that makes sense. It seems to help most of the time.
I feed from one side only..unless one side is a LOT fuller than the other.. then i'll have him eat a little from the other side so the sizes aren't completely off and unnoticeable to anyone else but me :)
Thanks for the info Lucy. People dont usually tell ya about this stuff. Very informative. Could you maybe nurse on one side for 10-15 minutes and then switch the other side to even your self out:) I dont know, i intend to nurse my baby, but i have no experience yet.
how long are you planning to nurse your son? Also, I saw on your comment that you stopped nursing your 1st b/c you got pregnant with your 2nd-is it reccomended that you stop nursing if you get pregnant?
No, it's actually considered to be safe to nurse while ur pregnancy unless told otherwise, which was our case. I had previous miscarriages and problems the first few weeks and was again w/ my son's pregnancy so they had advised to stop nursing/pumping. Although now with another full term pregnancy, I have been told if we fell pregnancy again to continue nursing
I feel your pain Lucy!! HAHA! I always feed w/the larger one before going out too! I don't have the hard nipple showing problem though because I use breastpads to prevent leaking and that covers them up. Course, I can't wear a white shirt cuz then you'd see those big white circles through it! HAHA! I just keep thinking,, it's only temporary... /sigh
hey lucy im not pregnant nor have i nd of course never nursed but my nipples are like lopsided one this way and the other that way well i wear a padded bra dnt know if that is helpful but i use it and it covers thm up 99.9% of the time other thn that i dnt thnk ppl look i hope not lol but i just go about my days so hope that helps good luck
my nipples are constantly sore just from pumping I think I pump way too fast though. They are cracked have white skin overtop some areas and I am in lots of pain just from that. I increased by two cup sizes I hate that!!!!
After Jace, did these issues go away, and if so, how long did it take for them to be back to normal? Please tell me the HUGE, lopsided boobs will go away with weaning...
i stopped nursing bc I was pregnant w/ my son, so I'm not sure honestly? U know with pregnancy you get a lil larger up top... I haven't fully returned to normal ever yet
you know awhile ago I saw online that there were bras that you dont need pads for them. So I guess they would be padded. Never really looked closely at them since they are like $45. But you may want to look for it.
I deal with the same issue (one boob is always more fuller and larger than the other) but I'm pretty sure it's because I nurse more on the right than the left.
They're always hard!!!! Argh!!! And super duper poke your eye out hard! Oh and huge... After Pumping they get so big! My husband asked once if they will ever be normal again!
lilly pads *sp?* aren't bulky like pads... i still use pads even though they are bulky... i just have to use them. oh and target has bras that are lightly padded.. they are uncomfortable to me but that's because I'm a sports bra type of girl.... i hate regular bras.
Oh yah, I have lopsided boobs big time! My son prefers my right side, so the left maybe gets used once or twice a day. And that's just so I can keep it "inflated" at least a little bit! I really am self-conscience about it. I never had any size difference before breastfeeding, so I am praying that they go back to normal once I am done. However, if they don't, then I have come to accept that as the price to pay for providing my son with the best! But, I will definately get a boob job!
I got a couple of nursing bras that were padded from Motherhood Maternity, and a couple from Kohls, they are actually padded more, not just cloth. They are awesome! I always had a bigger boob, it was like the one that he preferred i swear, so that one needed to produce more. It was usually the one i started with, and as soon as i nursed my first kid, my boobs went lopsided, i just put them in a bra, and say whatever! lol
I think all women have one boob bigger than the other, totally normal :)
Im wondering- if you have the bras which have the seam running through the middle of the cup, if you position your nipples so that they are on/just below/just above that line, if they are both done in the same position- they would both be pointing the same way- wouldnt they? Personally i cant wear the ones with seams- they give me boobs like Madonna!!!
Dunno if you have them over there, but here in Aus - by BONDS they sell singlets that are a padded bra with the clip thing that goes down. They're really thick and don't wanna stay down but I just tuck them back down into the shirt and it works fine! Hope you figure it all out soon =]
I have one side that gets bigger than the other. I've been advised to nurse more on the smaller side. I've done that , even going an entire day nursing only on the smaller side. It doesn't work for me.
When both breasts are full, the larger one is still larger!!! (pre pregnancy, they were both about the same size)
When one is fuller than the other, I just make sure that I squeeze and flatten it into my bra and push up the smaller one. Does that make sense?
I´neither nirsung nor preganant, but I have naturally cross-eyed nipples and breasts That´s why I wear padded bras. Otherwise everyone could notice it. But I don´t really care about it. When I was 16 and realise this fact, I just told myself that nobody is perfect!
haha ur 2 cute. Yah naturally when one is larger than the other a woman has this problem and more often than not one is larger than the other... Unless u have a boob job and even then it could still be. ha.
Nurse on both sides at each feeding, I had the same problem, I would only nurse one boob at a time. Hey it was easier to know which breast you last fed on! lol! One would have cancer(hard lumps) and the other would be a deflated balloon! It gets worse when they are 7-8 months still exclusively BF the quantity they get make one boob way bigger than the other so I had to do half and half!
Oh I can't do that.... no way. My supply is far to great to nurse on both sides. He ends up with more fore milk and not enough hind milk and gets gassy cranky and spits it all back up. So we do blocked feeding.
I use nursing pads for the hard nipple issue and because I leak ALOT especially if he hasn't nursed in a while. If I dont wear a pad then my whole outfit will be ruined. I use the washable nursing pads and also the lanisoh pads. If I have one breast larger then the other because I am fuller it usually is very uncomfortable so I will pump untill they are about even otherwise I will leak like crazy and I get full into my armpit it seems and that doesn't feel good...lol.
This might b a weird question, but I figured I'd ask since u said u get full into ur armpit, I do too at times, and when my milk does let down (when I'm that full) I start to get itchy in my armpit until all the knots are out (which is only at night time when he sleeps for 8+ hrs) but I think it's weird that it gets itchy and have never heard anyone say that happens to them, wondering if its just me?
I used to get very itchy when I was full too. Like you too I could only nurse one side at a time. and I do own one padded nursing bra (it is like a regular T-shirt bra but no wire and clips at the top)
I have weird nipples too, one seems to point forward and the otehr kinda points down lol
I had the same problem with the itch when my breasts became to full and with a lot of lumps in them, I just always assumed it was from the increase pressure and stretching on the skin from the massive amount of milk that was in them. It would get so bad that once it would start leaking it would squirt out(on its own) untill the lumps were almost gone.
OH yah, that happens all the time. It's not any fun either b/c ur baby starts to drown in it, chokes, gags, and pulls off the breast until it stops running like a faucet so they can actually nurse. Makes a massive mess.
I don't know if you guys have them in the USA but in Australia we have moulded nursing bras which could help with preventing ppl seeing hard nipples but don't make u feel too much like Dolly Parton lol :)

How can you possibly cast hard nipples as some kind of bad thing?!?!
If my wife had continuously hard nipples I'd be hooked to 'em more than the kid.
