Wow man I'm French, have been watching a bunch of your videos and it's reaaally interesting ! Just to tell you, I'm from a region called Alsace, which is next to Germany, and the accent you speak while doing proper English kinda sounds like the typical accent of my region (which few people still have today). Got amused too by some words, like "Siy" which does sound like I hear even in the US, whereas your proper English version of it "say" could in french be written "sé" (without a dipthongue).
@JoeLaFigue I'm not sure where, but there's certainly a link in history that could be the reason for a similar accent :) you also know about the 'Auld Alliance' as well. But aye, there's a strong influence of the Scots dialect in the US, the Scots language is made up from Anglo-Saxon, Scandinavian and Gallic, and I know French had a strong influence on the English language itself am sure :)
I'm an American here in Glasgow right now hoping to God that I come across someone who talks like you who will stop and just talk to me for hours! lol
@celestialsight lol by the sounds of it you haven't been in Glasgow long enough I take it? :) you must have just recently came over here :) guessing you're studying here? :)
@MyOwnEnding Thank you, and I'm glad it was of help to yourself, I hope of course that you enjoy Scotland, regardless of what weather hits here lol am sure you'll love it :)
I really want to learn to speak in Scottish accent. I myself is Scottish but I don't have the accent. or the Slang, thanks a lot mate this helps a lot! cheers :)
@GerardButlerLover135 Hi :) I'm glad that it helps you, and am guessing you have Scottish ancestry? I will of course look to get more videos done on the Scottish accent, and if it helps people like yourself, then added bonus, am happy with that :)
@ScottMcK9 Yes, I do have Scottish Ancestry :) I have actually been thinking to move BACK to Glasgow :) but all this time in Canada really doesn't help. ive pretty much lost my Accent completely.
@GerardButlerLover135 Sounds to me like you were born here and moved over, which I can understand. The best way you can pick an accent up is by immersing yourself in the accent really, that's the best way about it. It's all about getting your vowels right etc :)
@ScottMcK9 Yup you've got that right. i only live there for 10 years of my life. and believe me when i say I had a very thick Accent. nobody could ever understand what it was I was saying ;) But when I started to be around the people here, My accent slowly begun to lighten. and now I only have A very very slight accent. people think I've been living in Canada all my life. It sucks to, Cause i'm proud to be Scottish. but when I tell people nobody believes me. :)
@GerardButlerLover135 I understand what you mean pal, no matter what, they can never take the Scot out of you, the more you hear us fellow Scots speak, the more it'll come back to you, because you once spoke it. The fact you once spoke it, put you a big step ahead of anyone trying to learn to speak it, because you understand the lingo.
@ScottMcK9 thats true, A bunch off school mates want me to teach them how to speak with the accent. and I don't know how to go about doing that. because I can't even speak it anymore. But the more I watch your videos, the more It comes back to me. it'll take a while though, and besides. I wouldn't know how to begin to teach them. I'll probably recommend your videos to them mate. these might help them a lot. :P
@GerardButlerLover135 It's very kind of you pal, end of the day, it's one of those things that would take time, I wouldn't expect people to catch onto it right off. I had a wee laugh with a friend on my list, she went into a shop the other day and said a word missing out the t's, even the shop owner was shocked hahahaha just shows you, it can happen.
@ScottMcK9 thats been happening to me all day.except, I over heard some of my mates talking, and of course these are the people that i recently met, so they have no idea i'm 100% Scottish. and I over heard one of them saying to other other " is she speaking Scottish?" and I just kinda looked at him like, who in the world does he know i'm Scottish. than a couple minutes later. one came up to me and told me that ive been speaking with a strong Accent for about an hour and a half. I was surprised:)
@GerardButlerLover135 hahahahaha aye, that's just it, it'll definitely come on the way words will ring back at you, the more you'll pick it up. See that's the thing, you'd probably sound Canadian to me, but to them, you'd sound Scottish, they'd realise your accent change, and the more you hear Scottish, the stronger your accent would get back to you, djae knah ' a mean? :) lol
@ScottMcK9 lol yeah, The thing i love about my Accents going back and fourth are confusing my Professors. it's been happening a lot lately, so ever time i answer a question in class, and i sound different, it's cool to see the confused look on there faces, that includes my mates to. it's amazing to see how much my accent proceeds to grow,it's mostly because of you that my accents becoming stronger. i'm really happy with it, thanks a lot mate! :D
@GerardButlerLover135 hahahahahaha top quality mate! top quality! :D got to love it. That's just it though, they must be thinking to themselves "where is he getting this accent from all of a sudden?" lol it's like one of those super hero programmes like Heroes were something dramatic breaks out hahahaha funny stuff :)
But aye, it's like I said bud, it'll certainly grow on you, cause it's how you were born to speak, so it comes natural to you lol
@ScottMcK9 ah, yes that's true. it SHOULD come Naturally to me, but sadly it does not :( and sorry to correct you on this, but I'm a girl ;) but yeah, it's still a very slight accent even still but it's coming back a little bit :) I was actually hoping to go visit Glasgow during the summer, catch up with some old friends, they have been trying to get me to move back :) but i was hoping if I go, my Accent will come back :P i really hope it does. i miss it ;)
@GerardButlerLover135 lol I can understand what you mean, no worries about it, am sure you would given time or that :) as for you having friends back here in Scotland, however you manage that? lol :D Internet I presume? :) Either way am sure you'll at least enjoy your time back here, which no doubt would be rather strange but familiar to you :)
@ScottMcK9 I've known them since I was ten ;) and yes, we have kept in touch Through Facebook and Twitter. and as for commenting so much, I must say i'm sorry for comment a lot. you must be very annoyed by this point :3 and. I can't wait to come back :) it'll be a good time, being able to see them again. :)
@GerardButlerLover135 hahahaha don't be silly, of course not, I do not have anything against anyone that comments and even conversates through comments. That's the beauty of this site, it's why I respond to subscribers, comments and messages. It's not about just getting views, it's about getting to know people in my view. I'm no special to who you are, only difference is, I make videos, nothing big about that.
And I'd imagine you would enjoy it, especially to see those friends of yours grown up
@ScottMcK9 Oh yes, that's gonna be fun :P i'm actually kinda nervous because I have family up there that I haven't talked to in a long time. lol, there not going to really approve of the lack of accent so that's the only downside. And i'm actually kinda surprised you don't want me to stop commenting, or that you even replied to my first comment. lol most would have agnored it :P
@GerardButlerLover135 That's because most of them that make videos get carried away and only care about the number they get and often wouldn't give a damn about the people that actually appreciate their videos. I'll be honest with you, aye, I get some messages takes me time to get around, but at least I do what I can to let people know am certainly not ignoring them.
I appreciate people such as yourself, and one of those reasons is that without those like yourself, I wouldn't have views...
@GerardButlerLover135 Believe me, I've been there, commented on a few videos and seen what some of them are like, it's a hard thing to describe, you almost get the feeling like they feel they're too important to talk to you.
Nah! You or any commenter's out there are just as equal and important as those that make videos. And aye, especially your family, they'll be chuffed to see you, you'll get all the banter about your accent I bet hahahaha :D
@ScottMcK9 lol yeah. it'll be a lot of fun. And it's cool that you treat everybody as an equal , people should really respect you for that. i know I do, Well that and I'd respect anybody who will take a few minutes out of there time to talk to somebody they don't even know :) you must have a lot of great friends. you're actually one of the only people to actually respond to my comments :) random bit. but Glasgow sure is beautiful isn't it. :)
@GerardButlerLover135 What? No one has responded to you? that's mad! even when I become busy with Graphic work, I always make sure I get around to responding to folk as much as I can. And that is not put on for show either, it's me as a person. It's like you'd think with people commenting and liking their videos, they'd at least take the time to appreciate and respond back? Sure, bit different if getting absolute thousands of comments within such a small space of time, but aye...
@GerardButlerLover135 And aye, Glasgow is a beautiful city, it has a lot of it's down sides, but at the end of the day, it deserves more recognition for it's people and there are many nice parts of Glasgow. Like the video I took in town, you can see many of those videos. Would like to get more of course.
@ScottMcK9 A lot of my mates from Scotland, Edinburgh and Glasgow mostly. My god, they are way nicer than most people in Canada i'm not saying that all Canadians are rude. cause there not.... I don't even know where I'm going with this. :P... yeah idk, but Edinburgh is another beautiful place. It's just Scotland in general, lol. :)
@GerardButlerLover135 I've never been to Canada, so I couldn't judge as such, but Scotland is a very friendly country, and that is a large reason why you might say that. As for Edinburgh, it is a beautiful city, very unique and different in it's own way from Glasgow, Edinburgh would remind you more of the dark ages.
The train from Glasgow to Edinburgh, you pass right next to the cliff face am sure of the castle, it is a beautiful city.
@ScottMcK9 Yeah I've been to Edinburgh for a school band trip in the 8th grade :) so... when i was about 13, that was a good trip because when i spoke normally my accent didn't show but I was able to do it if i tried, so every time somebody spoke to us i would speak with an accent, and my mates thought it was amazing how I could " copy " an accent that well ;) they still don't know i'm Scottish :P
@GerardButlerLover135 I think it's quite funny how they don't know you're Scottish lol it's like usually your own parents would have strong enough accents, surely your friends would've came across your parents, no? People here will think you're Canadian, whereas if you picked up the accent here slightly, Canadians would think you're putting it on lol
You can take The Scot out of Scotland, but you can't take the Scotland out of The Scot lol
@ScottMcK9 LOL no doubt, a lot of my friends are clueless :P i'm very surprised they haven't noticed my grandmother, mother and father accent, less my mother and father, but thats besides the point, i never really understood how they never noticed ;)
@GerardButlerLover135 lol you'd think that is a very telling sign, especially if your parents still more or less have the accent. It's different when you move at the age of 10, because at that age, your accent and you are more or less still developing as a person :)
Thank fuck am Scottish man. If a wis an outsider aka a Yank or Aussie a widnae huv a clue wit the Scottish slang wis aww aboot. Good vid. Thank fuck someone is actually teaching a non scottish person our language.
@18scotslad Am proud of my country bud, my people and my land and the language is a big part of our identity, which am more than happy to help people get to grips and understand a lot of what our people speak,
@monkey97x A large reason for it though, is due to having been brought up in the east end of Glasgow, which is a really slang part of Glasgow, and aye, Scots certainly is it's own language, prefer speaking this way to proper English, not that I have anything against proper English, it's just me lol cheers buddy :)
I love the soul & personality of scottish & english, welsh & irish men, especially in the north of england, their rich warm accents make my heart melt. Nice manners, class & they sound more sincere in the way they pronounce words & make rich tones & sounds & emphasis on vowels.
@lilyeve222 Thank you, because I grew up speaking like this, my tone of how I speak is an every day thing, I wouldn't know what people see in it. But I think I know where you're coming from. As for the vowels, it's very complicated in Scottish lol we've even turned certain 'E's' into 'U's' lol
@Bugy34 lol if you think that's bad, you should try half the things I say off video hahahahahaha :D but aye, I can understand if someone speaking a foreign language hears Scottish, it becomes gobblety gook, it's basically it's own language in it's own right, cause it certainly isn't English lol :D
@ScottMcK9 Thanks for the video :). I meant that as a foreigner, I try to improve it everyday, and I hear everyone saying that texas or american accent is more difficult (for a foreigner) to understand... but well, no no no no no lol Scottish for sure ! so so different ! some words do not seem english lol. but more like Danish or other germanic word you know... The best joke to make when I will ahve children, I will sent them to Glasgow ahaha they 'll learn well ! :))) they'll sweat ! lol!
@Bugy34 lol that's because the Scottish language is different, it's Scandinavian and some what Gallic influenced with a mix of English lol so you can imagine. Like the word 'mare' for 'more' is Scandinavian lol and aye lol it'd be heavy funny, could picture your kids picking up like a mad heavy Glaswegian accent and going back, their friends faces would be like gob smacked hahahahahaha!! :D
@Fl0wer0fSc0tland lol I can understand mate, it's very common and is the reason I make these videos, to show people how we speak that way they can at least understand the basics, to more advanced :)
@celestialsight hahahaha why might that be? :) and always be aware that there are arseholes in every country, we are different people however, that I can say :)
@ScottMcK9 Why? Well it could take ALL day to even begin to scratch the surface on that. Let's just say I truly feel in my heart that that's who I was intented to be with. I know about some jerks, but every country has them.
OMG! I really fancy a Scottish guy at work but me being Hungarian doesn't help to understand him at all. I think I will hit replay button a few times... Thanks for the vid... it is helpful :)
@londoncaty lol well if my videos turn out helpful, then I am more than happy. It's only natural that you being Hungarian you'd find it harder to understand what he maybe saying, but always remember, Scots can choose to speak proper English if they want :)
Thank you so much for this! Very informative, and Glaswegian accents are my absolute favorite accents in the world. I'm stuck with a Midwestern United States accent.
@MintGreen I'm glad that it's helped you, and aye, I can relate to that, cause I love foreign accents like American. I hear Glaswegian every day as I say.
@mickthepenguin No problem at all bud, although I'm not sure friends on YouTube exist anymore because of the new layout :) always good to meet fellow Scots.
Ugh, i want this accent! I just have a boring old London one. I would love to hear you speak at your normal speed to see if we could understand - i don't mean that in a rude way btw it's just a very strong accent for people who don't hear it all the time. My mum was born (but not raised) in Glasgow so i was really close to having this accent, haha if only.
@danceohyeah I don't take offence at all bud, it's that thing as I say, to me I hear Glaswegians every day, so elsewhere in Scotland interests me more, and especially outside my own country, I love many accents south of the border and abroad, I just love accents all in lol but aye, right now am stringing together videos of Scottish sentences which will give more depth, than just these word videos :)
@nikoninja16 Thanks :) I was born in Glasgow, my great, great granda was Northern Irish, but would've derived from Scotland originally, so am mostly Scottish :)
I love that accent, and basically it's really easy to understand, don't know, may be 'cause I'm not english native speaker. Have a nice guy at work from Glasgow, don't have a problem at all to understand him.
@elbowmjc It really depends upon the level of slang they speak, I mean i normally speak slang, a lot of the way I speak though, I mostly speak off video, I feel that I constantly find myself having to pronounce things more carefully on video, in case someone doesn't understand what am about to say :)
@ScottMcK9 That's it :) your video is really nice and I can see that you speak really slowly :) they usually speak much faster, anyway it's nice accent :)
@elbowmjc lol the main and biggest reason I speak slowly, is because you have people from countries across Europe etc watching this, if I spoke to you the way I normally would, I don't think most people would understand it. You have to give people the basics, and if they can understand the basics, move them onto the more difficult stuff ;)
@sarabower1 I'm happy to see that at least it's helped people like yourself. I'm looking into getting more done of course, but with sentences to help people further. Thank you,
Ugh.......I have zero problem understanding the accent, but trying to reproduce it without sounding like a jackass is much harder. I'm doing a cover of a Twilight Sad song and it's very difficult to nail the accent but it's such a part of what I love about the song I don't want to sing without it. From trial and error I think a large part of the glaswenian accent comes from a relaxed tongue position in the back of the mouth. Like if you tense your tongue to start to make an L sound..
@Subparanon Glaswegians tend to talk right slang though, so it is more or less relaxed, the main thing I try and do though, is break down the words so people can understand what's being said. Did say I'd get around to doing more in sentences, but haven't done that yet, will soon though. But aye, I can understand, think the biggest problem people have is pronunciation, but practise makes perfect :)
I'm from Southern U.S. (North Carolina) and you are right when it comes to 'yella' and 'gived' being a commonality between Scottish accents and some Southern accents. Also the Scottish accent on the phrases 'What did you say?' and "Which way you going?" are actually quite similar to some Southern accents as well, especially with an older generation. Cool video, thanks for uploading!
@esispeakbecauseican And thanks for your comment, I wouldn't know in depth without you having said that about the certain short line sentences sounding similar, it's understandable to a certain degree though, it would make sense. I'm sure it was around your region or Virginia, that at one point became a Scottish state in it's early days.
Unless a scottish person has a really thick accent I could always understand what was being said I did not realize that the dialects were so different, very interesting video I will be sure to check out the other videos. Thanks for sharing your videos..
@Tara20052 That's a good thing, there's a lot who couldn't understand it at all. And aye, each part of Scotland sound entirely different from the other, despite it being such a small country :)
Hello, I'd like to ask you something (again). Well, as I said before I have an English project about Scottish English, and I've been watching your videos and researching about it a lot these days. I found lots of things but I'm not sure if the things I saw are real. I've found something about 'youse' being the plural of 'you', is that for real? I'd like to know if you could give me some tips about Scottish grammar, as well. Thanks a lot, you're amazing!
@Kusmaluka It's hard for me to put across Scottish Grammar, because it's not taught, but the best way is listening to Scottish people talk, to hear their slang, kind of like how you gathered that I say 'you's'. To be honest, I thought 'yous' was something normal, it's not till you hear someone outside of Scotland like yourself, mentioning about it, that it becomes apparent. And it most definitely is for real lol like if I said to a group of people 'yous are all wrong'.
wow...i am seriously convinced our slang are similar. I am from Turks and Caicos and in our dialect we pronounce most of our words similar to yours..Like 'give' we would say 'gie' we say yella for yellow, etc...im gonna make a video response to this to show you
@altrisha1 During the highland clearances, more than 2 million Scots were forced out to every continent on the planet, there's even a little Scotland in Italy, there's strong Scottish heritage in Holland and other parts around the world. Maybe there's some Scottish spoken influence. You being from Turks and Caicos, perhaps that spread from Southern parts of US, I know that Scotland at one point aimed to create a 'New Caledonia', which Caledonia is Scotland's old original name :)
@pigeon014ninja lol a love accents south of the border, different from my own, to me my own just sounds every day boring same thing, day in, day out lol
oh my, now i'm quite scared to move to glasgow. i'm from estonia and i think i might not understand some words :D i hate it when i have to ask pardon? or should i say talk'n aboot or sth? :D
@mereprintsess The beauty of this country is that English is our first language as it was 'adopted' over the years, so you only need to speak English largely for people to understand you :) people here in Scotland can pick and choose when to speak more proper or not :)
Although giving people a better understanding to Scottish dialect / words is helpful, gives people an understanding to what people are saying naturally :)
@ilovejordanjansenxo And we shall never be ashamed for how we speak in this country, it's 'oor ain wee language' :D and aye lol surprisingly people want to learn it, but if me putting out proper real Scottish dialect helps people, am more than chuffed way that :)
Love the video! BUT, one thing. Crackers is only a term that the nigs call us. Its a derogatory term. Its kinda like calling a black person a nigger, or a coon, or a spook. I look forward to coming back next June, I love Glasgow! Cheers!
@Evanmonster1 Never actually knew that, it's origin just means loud brash talkers, deriving from the auld gaelic word 'Craick' meaning talk. And you were over in Glesga? :) Quality! Glasgow's a great city mate, just lived here my whole life, so it's like I see it every day, so I grow to what's different to me.
@ScottMcK9 Yea, I've been called a cracker, casper, honkey, white boy, by blacks, and hispanics, etc.. Those are all racist terms for whites. Yes I was in Glasgow last June, and I'll be back NEXT June as well! I actually like Glasgow better than Chicago! The Solid Rock Cafe is my place to be. Ever been there? Its off Hope Street. I love it!
@Evanmonster1 Aye, I know of it well mate, been in it before, I was mostly up Sauchiehall street, but aye, been in Solid Rock Cafe before :) wasn't in long enough though...
@scottishgirl01 And definitely no shame in it Rebecca :D you can be proud for the way you speak for certainty, it's an identity :) and am most certainly proud Glaswegian x :)
@chrislovespillz In a sense I think a see where you're coming from, not all are like that though, I grew up in the east end, there's a certain way people speak and it's naturally how they talk. That's something I'll never change is how I talk. The only thing I do on Camcorder is speak a bit more proper English so people outside Scotland can understand better.
@ScottMcK9 yeah, I agree with you. Time can be a shocker sometimes. Although you have changed, I still think you look nice with your long hair. I still can't get over how attractive your voice is. Your accent is gold! :p
@thedarkwoodenbox lol thanks, I think the same way about many other accents outside Scotland, including Aussie and American / Canadian accents lol to me it's like the opposite, my accent is something I hear every day, so it's nothing, but hearing American / Canadian / Australian and many other parts of the world, those certain accents are adorable :)
@thedarkwoodenbox lol I've much changed since then, and it's mad how this video was made in like February and now it's September, time's flew in so quick!
Your accent is adorable :) Thanks for making these videos, it's very interesting. Your way of pronouncing "brown" sounds very much like Swedish word for it btw ("brun") :)
@mschiquitita10 Thank you :) I made these videos of course, to give people a better understanding to our dialect and aye, a lot of the way we speak is heavily influenced off the Scandinavian language, that's why many words you speak is how we say things :) and am proud of that, I love Sweden and your other Scandinavian countries, friendly people :)
@petacavanagh It's Glesga, it's how we say 'Glasgow' in our form of slang, we pronounce the name 'Glesga'. Your more proper spoken Glaswegians would perhaps pronounce it just 'Glasgow'. The stereotypes that are wrong however, is labelling Glaswegian slang with 'ned talk'. Two entirely different things altogether. It's kind of like the whole burberry trend, neds have literately ripped the arse off that trend to make it labelled with neds, when really it has nothing to do with them :)
@petacavanagh hahaha am guessing you're from some where near outside Glasgow then I take it? And aye, we get called Weegie's a lot and believe me, I've heard the stereotypes lol :D
@misslove1105 A lot of the slang way I speak though and strong dialect, comes from the very fact I grew up in what your equivalent would be the Bronx New York City. In other words, Glasgow's east end. So I tend to say things like 'fae' instead of 'from', or 'unnerstaun' instead of 'understand'. In other words, my accent / dialect where am from is perhaps stronger than a lot of other Scots. Depends.
@bobbollu Most commonly, the name is pronounced like 'Whiley' but aye, I knew someone that had that second name, so it's definitely about :) and of course, if I had the money I'd be out buying my own clan tartan Kilt, but it's quality of course that you've had one passed down over years.
@bobbollu I would like to use your expertise for the next time my family travels to Scotland. do you have a twitter account? I am on twitter more than you tube. Have you been to Germany, I would like to take the family their also.
@bobbollu I have never personally been to Germany but would love to some day, but aye, my username on Twitter is AlbannGuBrath although I use it occasionally, just to keep my videos updated on the status updates on Twitter. And if any questions I'd be more than happy to try and answer of course,
@DeeWeissman Thank you, although I wouldn't agree to that, I love the American accents, very different to that of our own, to me I just sound Scottish and to me it's nothing new, I hear it every day. Love the accents over there in the states, especially around New York and New Jersey. You have a very unique way of talking, especially to the rest of the United States.
@DeeWeissman Ah I can say that for sure, I love different accents, I just love hearing the different accents cause it's not what I normally hear, can be saw as attractive :)
@gentlemortal lol I am the same way with certain foreign accents, I know that for certain. I suppose I just love the way American woman speak / sound because the tone. I find our accent to be more rough spoken and sounds that way.
@gentlemortal I love foreign accents on woman and of course is very attractive, so aye, the foreign accents on woman like American is in that way attractive. To me the word suits more adorable. Even to a certain degree, there are certain accents around Scotland which am not used to are nice to hear, but that's cause am too used to Glaswegian and mostly Scottish.
@ScottMcK9 ah guess it is the same for me then. when i hear an accent im not used to i find it very intriguing. i have always found scottish accents fasinating. im a huge fan of the legends there as well, and the stories. your fairy tales are so much more hardcore than anyone elses. i think it is beautiful.
@gentlemortal I obviously have a deep love for both Greece and Italy for those reasons, and I understand what you mean, the Mythology you'd be talking about, like the Picts and the Pictish Warrior Calgacus. I know I'd derive from back then, but I'd love to trace my family back so far still, it'd be interesting :) and aye, the accents abroad, even America I tend to adore :)
@ScottMcK9 lol yeah. greece culture is extremely cool to read about, im a huge fan of their art as well. i actually plan on tracing my lineage back as far as i can just to find out where i come from, who im related to, what they did. :) it is the coolest thing to think about my families past.
@gentlemortal I know mines would go back to Picts time, it's just an issue to find out the percentage I'd have of Celtic blood etc :) but aye, you could definitely find that out :) only thing is, they make you pay for things like that, but I suppose it's worth it in the end :)
I live in southern US (originally from the north moved when was 8) and some southerns do say quite of the words that are here (like the yella/yellow thing).. I didnt think i had a southern accent til I went back up north and i do tend to 'slur' a lot of my words.. like instead of "I'll be back later " I would say "Ah beback (as 1 word) lader".. anyway.. nice video!
@pinkazilla It does sound quite funny, but doesn't too much surprise me because of the Scottish heritage that's in the south :) I'd more than love sometime to see the US :) and thanks! :)
@joewandy Alright quality bud, hope you're getting on well there of course. And yeah if my videos in anyway help people who aren't originally from this city or country, then great! :) as I've been saying, it's just a way for people to understand and see the bigger picture of what perhaps a real Scot would sound like, baring in mind we don't all have the same dialect and accent. Cheers! :)
@cornypickuplines Well you can't go wrong mate, very friendly city and people will even slow up what they're saying, but yeah, for those that might have a bit of a strong accent, you might understand more :) and hope you enjoy your time in Glasgow.
@denholm10 The video software is what I just used that came with Windows 7, Windows Live Movie Maker. The thing is, I heard 'Windows Movie Maker' original from I think XP has more transitions. But yeah, Live movie maker you can definitely add captions :) which of course when you add the text, there's a transition at the top you can choose for it. Hope that helps :)

I really want to learn to speak in Scottish accent. I myself is Scottish but I don't have the accent. or the Slang, thanks a lot mate this helps a lot! cheers :)
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 Hi :) I'm glad that it helps you, and am guessing you have Scottish ancestry? I will of course look to get more videos done on the Scottish accent, and if it helps people like yourself, then added bonus, am happy with that :)
Scott
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 Yes, I do have Scottish Ancestry :) I have actually been thinking to move BACK to Glasgow :) but all this time in Canada really doesn't help. ive pretty much lost my Accent completely.
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 Sounds to me like you were born here and moved over, which I can understand. The best way you can pick an accent up is by immersing yourself in the accent really, that's the best way about it. It's all about getting your vowels right etc :)
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 Yup you've got that right. i only live there for 10 years of my life. and believe me when i say I had a very thick Accent. nobody could ever understand what it was I was saying ;) But when I started to be around the people here, My accent slowly begun to lighten. and now I only have A very very slight accent. people think I've been living in Canada all my life. It sucks to, Cause i'm proud to be Scottish. but when I tell people nobody believes me. :)
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 I understand what you mean pal, no matter what, they can never take the Scot out of you, the more you hear us fellow Scots speak, the more it'll come back to you, because you once spoke it. The fact you once spoke it, put you a big step ahead of anyone trying to learn to speak it, because you understand the lingo.
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 thats true, A bunch off school mates want me to teach them how to speak with the accent. and I don't know how to go about doing that. because I can't even speak it anymore. But the more I watch your videos, the more It comes back to me. it'll take a while though, and besides. I wouldn't know how to begin to teach them. I'll probably recommend your videos to them mate. these might help them a lot. :P
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 It's very kind of you pal, end of the day, it's one of those things that would take time, I wouldn't expect people to catch onto it right off. I had a wee laugh with a friend on my list, she went into a shop the other day and said a word missing out the t's, even the shop owner was shocked hahahaha just shows you, it can happen.
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 thats been happening to me all day.except, I over heard some of my mates talking, and of course these are the people that i recently met, so they have no idea i'm 100% Scottish. and I over heard one of them saying to other other " is she speaking Scottish?" and I just kinda looked at him like, who in the world does he know i'm Scottish. than a couple minutes later. one came up to me and told me that ive been speaking with a strong Accent for about an hour and a half. I was surprised:)
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 hahahahaha aye, that's just it, it'll definitely come on the way words will ring back at you, the more you'll pick it up. See that's the thing, you'd probably sound Canadian to me, but to them, you'd sound Scottish, they'd realise your accent change, and the more you hear Scottish, the stronger your accent would get back to you, djae knah ' a mean? :) lol
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 lol yeah, The thing i love about my Accents going back and fourth are confusing my Professors. it's been happening a lot lately, so ever time i answer a question in class, and i sound different, it's cool to see the confused look on there faces, that includes my mates to. it's amazing to see how much my accent proceeds to grow,it's mostly because of you that my accents becoming stronger. i'm really happy with it, thanks a lot mate! :D
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 hahahahahaha top quality mate! top quality! :D got to love it. That's just it though, they must be thinking to themselves "where is he getting this accent from all of a sudden?" lol it's like one of those super hero programmes like Heroes were something dramatic breaks out hahahaha funny stuff :)
But aye, it's like I said bud, it'll certainly grow on you, cause it's how you were born to speak, so it comes natural to you lol
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 ah, yes that's true. it SHOULD come Naturally to me, but sadly it does not :( and sorry to correct you on this, but I'm a girl ;) but yeah, it's still a very slight accent even still but it's coming back a little bit :) I was actually hoping to go visit Glasgow during the summer, catch up with some old friends, they have been trying to get me to move back :) but i was hoping if I go, my Accent will come back :P i really hope it does. i miss it ;)
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 lol I can understand what you mean, no worries about it, am sure you would given time or that :) as for you having friends back here in Scotland, however you manage that? lol :D Internet I presume? :) Either way am sure you'll at least enjoy your time back here, which no doubt would be rather strange but familiar to you :)
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 I've known them since I was ten ;) and yes, we have kept in touch Through Facebook and Twitter. and as for commenting so much, I must say i'm sorry for comment a lot. you must be very annoyed by this point :3 and. I can't wait to come back :) it'll be a good time, being able to see them again. :)
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 hahahaha don't be silly, of course not, I do not have anything against anyone that comments and even conversates through comments. That's the beauty of this site, it's why I respond to subscribers, comments and messages. It's not about just getting views, it's about getting to know people in my view. I'm no special to who you are, only difference is, I make videos, nothing big about that.
And I'd imagine you would enjoy it, especially to see those friends of yours grown up
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 Oh yes, that's gonna be fun :P i'm actually kinda nervous because I have family up there that I haven't talked to in a long time. lol, there not going to really approve of the lack of accent so that's the only downside. And i'm actually kinda surprised you don't want me to stop commenting, or that you even replied to my first comment. lol most would have agnored it :P
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 That's because most of them that make videos get carried away and only care about the number they get and often wouldn't give a damn about the people that actually appreciate their videos. I'll be honest with you, aye, I get some messages takes me time to get around, but at least I do what I can to let people know am certainly not ignoring them.
I appreciate people such as yourself, and one of those reasons is that without those like yourself, I wouldn't have views...
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 Believe me, I've been there, commented on a few videos and seen what some of them are like, it's a hard thing to describe, you almost get the feeling like they feel they're too important to talk to you.
Nah! You or any commenter's out there are just as equal and important as those that make videos. And aye, especially your family, they'll be chuffed to see you, you'll get all the banter about your accent I bet hahahaha :D
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 lol yeah. it'll be a lot of fun. And it's cool that you treat everybody as an equal , people should really respect you for that. i know I do, Well that and I'd respect anybody who will take a few minutes out of there time to talk to somebody they don't even know :) you must have a lot of great friends. you're actually one of the only people to actually respond to my comments :) random bit. but Glasgow sure is beautiful isn't it. :)
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 What? No one has responded to you? that's mad! even when I become busy with Graphic work, I always make sure I get around to responding to folk as much as I can. And that is not put on for show either, it's me as a person. It's like you'd think with people commenting and liking their videos, they'd at least take the time to appreciate and respond back? Sure, bit different if getting absolute thousands of comments within such a small space of time, but aye...
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 And aye, Glasgow is a beautiful city, it has a lot of it's down sides, but at the end of the day, it deserves more recognition for it's people and there are many nice parts of Glasgow. Like the video I took in town, you can see many of those videos. Would like to get more of course.
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 A lot of my mates from Scotland, Edinburgh and Glasgow mostly. My god, they are way nicer than most people in Canada i'm not saying that all Canadians are rude. cause there not.... I don't even know where I'm going with this. :P... yeah idk, but Edinburgh is another beautiful place. It's just Scotland in general, lol. :)
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 I've never been to Canada, so I couldn't judge as such, but Scotland is a very friendly country, and that is a large reason why you might say that. As for Edinburgh, it is a beautiful city, very unique and different in it's own way from Glasgow, Edinburgh would remind you more of the dark ages.
The train from Glasgow to Edinburgh, you pass right next to the cliff face am sure of the castle, it is a beautiful city.
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 Yeah I've been to Edinburgh for a school band trip in the 8th grade :) so... when i was about 13, that was a good trip because when i spoke normally my accent didn't show but I was able to do it if i tried, so every time somebody spoke to us i would speak with an accent, and my mates thought it was amazing how I could " copy " an accent that well ;) they still don't know i'm Scottish :P
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 I think it's quite funny how they don't know you're Scottish lol it's like usually your own parents would have strong enough accents, surely your friends would've came across your parents, no? People here will think you're Canadian, whereas if you picked up the accent here slightly, Canadians would think you're putting it on lol
You can take The Scot out of Scotland, but you can't take the Scotland out of The Scot lol
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 LOL no doubt, a lot of my friends are clueless :P i'm very surprised they haven't noticed my grandmother, mother and father accent, less my mother and father, but thats besides the point, i never really understood how they never noticed ;)
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago
@GerardButlerLover135 lol you'd think that is a very telling sign, especially if your parents still more or less have the accent. It's different when you move at the age of 10, because at that age, your accent and you are more or less still developing as a person :)
ScottMcK9 2 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 But do you have any tips that would help me a little more? if so that would be great :D
GerardButlerLover135 2 weeks ago

@ScottMcK9 Very true. No problem.
18scotslad 2 weeks ago
Such a thick accent, sounds like a different language. I love it!!!
monkey97x 3 weeks ago
@monkey97x A large reason for it though, is due to having been brought up in the east end of Glasgow, which is a really slang part of Glasgow, and aye, Scots certainly is it's own language, prefer speaking this way to proper English, not that I have anything against proper English, it's just me lol cheers buddy :)
ScottMcK9 3 weeks ago
@ScottMcK9 :D I love it, wish I could do it well enough! Thanks for the vid mate :)

I love the soul & personality of scottish & english, welsh & irish men, especially in the north of england, their rich warm accents make my heart melt. Nice manners, class & they sound more sincere in the way they pronounce words & make rich tones & sounds & emphasis on vowels.
lilyeve222 1 month ago
@lilyeve222 Thank you, because I grew up speaking like this, my tone of how I speak is an every day thing, I wouldn't know what people see in it. But I think I know where you're coming from. As for the vowels, it's very complicated in Scottish lol we've even turned certain 'E's' into 'U's' lol
ScottMcK9 1 month ago
oh my GOD !! lol I 'm french and it is funny after this video, suddenly Texas or american accent seems easier for me LOL !
Bugy34 1 month ago
@Bugy34 lol if you think that's bad, you should try half the things I say off video hahahahahaha :D but aye, I can understand if someone speaking a foreign language hears Scottish, it becomes gobblety gook, it's basically it's own language in it's own right, cause it certainly isn't English lol :D
ScottMcK9 1 month ago
@ScottMcK9 Thanks for the video :). I meant that as a foreigner, I try to improve it everyday, and I hear everyone saying that texas or american accent is more difficult (for a foreigner) to understand... but well, no no no no no lol Scottish for sure ! so so different ! some words do not seem english lol. but more like Danish or other germanic word you know... The best joke to make when I will ahve children, I will sent them to Glasgow ahaha they 'll learn well ! :))) they'll sweat ! lol!
Bugy34 1 month ago
@Bugy34 lol that's because the Scottish language is different, it's Scandinavian and some what Gallic influenced with a mix of English lol so you can imagine. Like the word 'mare' for 'more' is Scandinavian lol and aye lol it'd be heavy funny, could picture your kids picking up like a mad heavy Glaswegian accent and going back, their friends faces would be like gob smacked hahahahahaha!! :D

londoncaty 2 months ago
@londoncaty lol well if my videos turn out helpful, then I am more than happy. It's only natural that you being Hungarian you'd find it harder to understand what he maybe saying, but always remember, Scots can choose to speak proper English if they want :)

ScottMcK9 2 months ago
Ugh, i want this accent! I just have a boring old London one. I would love to hear you speak at your normal speed to see if we could understand - i don't mean that in a rude way btw it's just a very strong accent for people who don't hear it all the time. My mum was born (but not raised) in Glasgow so i was really close to having this accent, haha if only.
danceohyeah 2 months ago
@danceohyeah I don't take offence at all bud, it's that thing as I say, to me I hear Glaswegians every day, so elsewhere in Scotland interests me more, and especially outside my own country, I love many accents south of the border and abroad, I just love accents all in lol but aye, right now am stringing together videos of Scottish sentences which will give more depth, than just these word videos :)
Thanks
ScottMcK9 2 months ago
@nikoninja16 lol what an odd name to have, then again, there are some folk that end up with the surname Scotland I suppose :)
ScottMcK9 2 months ago
@nikoninja16 Thanks :) I was born in Glasgow, my great, great granda was Northern Irish, but would've derived from Scotland originally, so am mostly Scottish :)
ScottMcK9 2 months ago
I love that accent, and basically it's really easy to understand, don't know, may be 'cause I'm not english native speaker. Have a nice guy at work from Glasgow, don't have a problem at all to understand him.
elbowmjc 2 months ago
@elbowmjc It really depends upon the level of slang they speak, I mean i normally speak slang, a lot of the way I speak though, I mostly speak off video, I feel that I constantly find myself having to pronounce things more carefully on video, in case someone doesn't understand what am about to say :)
ScottMcK9 2 months ago
@ScottMcK9 That's it :) your video is really nice and I can see that you speak really slowly :) they usually speak much faster, anyway it's nice accent :)
elbowmjc 2 months ago
@elbowmjc lol the main and biggest reason I speak slowly, is because you have people from countries across Europe etc watching this, if I spoke to you the way I normally would, I don't think most people would understand it. You have to give people the basics, and if they can understand the basics, move them onto the more difficult stuff ;)
ScottMcK9 2 months ago
This video has actually helped me.
sarabower1 3 months ago
@sarabower1 I'm happy to see that at least it's helped people like yourself. I'm looking into getting more done of course, but with sentences to help people further. Thank you,
Scott
ScottMcK9 3 months ago
Ugh.......I have zero problem understanding the accent, but trying to reproduce it without sounding like a jackass is much harder. I'm doing a cover of a Twilight Sad song and it's very difficult to nail the accent but it's such a part of what I love about the song I don't want to sing without it. From trial and error I think a large part of the glaswenian accent comes from a relaxed tongue position in the back of the mouth. Like if you tense your tongue to start to make an L sound..
Subparanon 3 months ago
@Subparanon Glaswegians tend to talk right slang though, so it is more or less relaxed, the main thing I try and do though, is break down the words so people can understand what's being said. Did say I'd get around to doing more in sentences, but haven't done that yet, will soon though. But aye, I can understand, think the biggest problem people have is pronunciation, but practise makes perfect :)
ScottMcK9 3 months ago
I'm from Southern U.S. (North Carolina) and you are right when it comes to 'yella' and 'gived' being a commonality between Scottish accents and some Southern accents. Also the Scottish accent on the phrases 'What did you say?' and "Which way you going?" are actually quite similar to some Southern accents as well, especially with an older generation. Cool video, thanks for uploading!
esispeakbecauseican 3 months ago
@esispeakbecauseican And thanks for your comment, I wouldn't know in depth without you having said that about the certain short line sentences sounding similar, it's understandable to a certain degree though, it would make sense. I'm sure it was around your region or Virginia, that at one point became a Scottish state in it's early days.
ScottMcK9 3 months ago
Unless a scottish person has a really thick accent I could always understand what was being said I did not realize that the dialects were so different, very interesting video I will be sure to check out the other videos. Thanks for sharing your videos..
Tara20052 3 months ago
@Tara20052 That's a good thing, there's a lot who couldn't understand it at all. And aye, each part of Scotland sound entirely different from the other, despite it being such a small country :)
ScottMcK9 3 months ago
Hello, I'd like to ask you something (again). Well, as I said before I have an English project about Scottish English, and I've been watching your videos and researching about it a lot these days. I found lots of things but I'm not sure if the things I saw are real. I've found something about 'youse' being the plural of 'you', is that for real? I'd like to know if you could give me some tips about Scottish grammar, as well. Thanks a lot, you're amazing!
Kusmaluka 3 months ago
@Kusmaluka It's hard for me to put across Scottish Grammar, because it's not taught, but the best way is listening to Scottish people talk, to hear their slang, kind of like how you gathered that I say 'you's'. To be honest, I thought 'yous' was something normal, it's not till you hear someone outside of Scotland like yourself, mentioning about it, that it becomes apparent. And it most definitely is for real lol like if I said to a group of people 'yous are all wrong'.
ScottMcK9 3 months ago
wow...i am seriously convinced our slang are similar. I am from Turks and Caicos and in our dialect we pronounce most of our words similar to yours..Like 'give' we would say 'gie' we say yella for yellow, etc...im gonna make a video response to this to show you
altrisha1 3 months ago
@altrisha1 During the highland clearances, more than 2 million Scots were forced out to every continent on the planet, there's even a little Scotland in Italy, there's strong Scottish heritage in Holland and other parts around the world. Maybe there's some Scottish spoken influence. You being from Turks and Caicos, perhaps that spread from Southern parts of US, I know that Scotland at one point aimed to create a 'New Caledonia', which Caledonia is Scotland's old original name :)
ScottMcK9 3 months ago
Ah, I love your accent! So much more interesting than my boring english accent :D

mereprintsess 4 months ago
@mereprintsess The beauty of this country is that English is our first language as it was 'adopted' over the years, so you only need to speak English largely for people to understand you :) people here in Scotland can pick and choose when to speak more proper or not :)
Although giving people a better understanding to Scottish dialect / words is helpful, gives people an understanding to what people are saying naturally :)
ScottMcK9 4 months ago
Lmao, i've just realised, its like teaching people a foreign language haha,
i speak exactly like this :')!

Love the video! BUT, one thing. Crackers is only a term that the nigs call us. Its a derogatory term. Its kinda like calling a black person a nigger, or a coon, or a spook. I look forward to coming back next June, I love Glasgow! Cheers!
Evanmonster1 5 months ago
@Evanmonster1 Never actually knew that, it's origin just means loud brash talkers, deriving from the auld gaelic word 'Craick' meaning talk. And you were over in Glesga? :) Quality! @ScottMcK9 Yea, I've been called a cracker, casper, honkey, white boy, by blacks, and hispanics, etc.. Those are all racist terms for whites.

ScottMcK9 5 months ago
@ScottMcK9 really? I think you look quite cool like that. Very smooth.
thedarkwoodenbox 5 months ago
@thedarkwoodenbox lol I've much changed since then, and it's mad how this video was made in like February and now it's September, time's flew in so quick!
ScottMcK9 5 months ago
Hey Scott, you look very attractive. I love your accent. -3
thedarkwoodenbox 5 months ago
@thedarkwoodenbox Thank you :) although I kinda look like I fell out the wrong side of the bed in the morning in that video lol
ScottMcK9 5 months ago
Your accent is adorable :) Thanks for making these videos, it's very interesting. Your way of pronouncing "brown" sounds very much like Swedish word for it btw ("brun") :)
mschiquitita10 6 months ago
@mschiquitita10 Thank you :) I made these videos of course, to give people a better understanding to our dialect and aye, a lot of the way we speak is heavily influenced off the Scandinavian language, that's why many words you speak is how we say things :) and am proud of that, I love Sweden and your other Scandinavian countries, friendly people :)

I love scots who pronounce "Glasgow" as "Glas-geh" - I don't know if it's a real thing or just a stereotype, but I love how it's said like that xD
petacavanagh 6 months ago
@petacavanagh It's Glesga, it's how we say 'Glasgow' in our form of slang, we pronounce the name 'Glesga'. Your more proper spoken Glaswegians would perhaps pronounce it just 'Glasgow'. The stereotypes that are wrong however, is labelling Glaswegian slang with 'ned talk'. Two entirely different things altogether. It's kind of like the whole burberry trend, neds have literately ripped the arse off that trend to make it labelled with neds, when really it has nothing to do with them :)
ScottMcK9 6 months ago
@ScottMcK9 Ahh right, good to know, thanks :) I always take the piss out of my mate by shouting "Glasgaeee" :)
petacavanagh 6 months ago
@petacavanagh hahaha am guessing you're from some where near outside Glasgow then I take it? And aye, we get called Weegie's a lot and believe me, I've heard the stereotypes lol :D
ScottMcK9 6 months ago
@ScottMcK9 Nah I'm from Manchester, England but my mate is from Dundee and I love his accent even though after 10 years here it's fading :D
petacavanagh 6 months ago
@petacavanagh Alright, quality :) and aye lol Dundonian's certainly talk differently, I can say that. 'Ken like eh?' it's commonly heard lol
ScottMcK9 6 months ago
@ScottMcK9 Yeah lol I want his accent but I can only do a typical mancunian (mine sounds half-Mancunian-half-Londonish) and scouse :L
petacavanagh 6 months ago
thank god.....now i can understand half of what hes saying
misslove1105 6 months ago
@misslove1105 A lot of the slang way I speak though and strong dialect, comes from the very fact I grew up in what your equivalent would be the Bronx New York City. In other words, Glasgow's east end. So I tend to say things like 'fae' instead of 'from', or 'unnerstaun' instead of 'understand'. In other words, my accent / dialect where am from is perhaps stronger than a lot of other Scots. Depends.

That was really helpful :)

Scott ya seem to be a nice lad. Been to Scotland with my family once and will go back. Also been to Liverpool and they have quite an accent also.
We are Scottish American and passed down a kilt through 4 generations. My son has it now. How common is Wyllie as a last name in Scotland?
bobbollu 7 months ago
@bobbollu Most commonly, the name is pronounced like 'Whiley' but aye, I knew someone that had that second name, so it's definitely about :) and of course, if I had the money I'd be out buying my own clan tartan Kilt, but it's quality of course that you've had one passed down over years.
ScottMcK9 7 months ago
@bobbollu I would like to use your expertise for the next time my family travels to Scotland. do you have a twitter account? I am on twitter more than you tube. Have you been to Germany, I would like to take the family their also.
bobbollu 7 months ago
@bobbollu I have never personally been to Germany but would love to some day, but aye, my username on Twitter is AlbannGuBrath although I use it occasionally, just to keep my videos updated on the status updates on Twitter. And if any questions I'd be more than happy to try and answer of course,

i love your accent so much <3 im from the new jersey in the states and we don't have such a cool accent lol :)
DeeWeissman 8 months ago
@DeeWeissman Thank you, although I wouldn't agree to that, I love the American accents, very different to that of our own, to me I just sound Scottish and to me it's nothing new, I hear it every day. Love the accents over there in the states, especially around New York and New Jersey. You have a very unique way of talking, especially to the rest of the United States.
ScottMcK9 8 months ago
@ScottMcK9 well isnt that something that we both like each other's accents lol :)
DeeWeissman 8 months ago
@DeeWeissman Ah I can say that for sure, I love different accents, I just love hearing the different accents cause it's not what I normally hear, can be saw as attractive :)

gentlemortal 9 months ago
@gentlemortal lol I am the same way with certain foreign accents, I know that for certain. I suppose I just love the way American woman speak / sound because the tone. I find our accent to be more rough spoken and sounds that way.
ScottMcK9 9 months ago
@ScottMcK9 lol its not rough. your accent is beautiful :)
gentlemortal 8 months ago
@ScottMcK9 lol us american woman? i dont really think about us having an accents. lol but i guess we do
gentlemortal 7 months ago
@gentlemortal I love foreign accents on woman and of course is very attractive, so aye, the foreign accents on woman like American is in that way attractive. To me the word suits more adorable. Even to a certain degree, there are certain accents around Scotland which am not used to are nice to hear, but that's cause am too used to Glaswegian and mostly Scottish.
ScottMcK9 7 months ago
@ScottMcK9 ah guess it is the same for me then. when i hear an accent im not used to i find it very intriguing. i have always found scottish accents fasinating. im a huge fan of the legends there as well, and the stories. your fairy tales are so much more hardcore than anyone elses. i think it is beautiful.
gentlemortal 7 months ago
@gentlemortal I obviously have a deep love for both Greece and Italy for those reasons, and I understand what you mean, the Mythology you'd be talking about, like the Picts and the Pictish Warrior Calgacus. I know I'd derive from back then, but I'd love to trace my family back so far still, it'd be interesting :) and aye, the accents abroad, even America I tend to adore :)
ScottMcK9 7 months ago
@ScottMcK9 lol yeah. greece culture is extremely cool to read about, im a huge fan of their art as well. i actually plan on tracing my lineage back as far as i can just to find out where i come from, who im related to, what they did. :) it is the coolest thing to think about my families past.
gentlemortal 7 months ago
@gentlemortal I know mines would go back to Picts time, it's just an issue to find out the percentage I'd have of Celtic blood etc :) but aye, you could definitely find that out :) only thing is, they make you pay for things like that, but I suppose it's worth it in the end :)

I live in southern US (originally from the north moved when was 8) and some southerns do say quite of the words that are here (like the yella/yellow thing).. I didnt think i had a southern accent til I went back up north and i do tend to 'slur' a lot of my words.. like instead of "I'll be back later " I would say "Ah beback (as 1 word) lader".. anyway.. nice video!
pinkazilla 10 months ago
@pinkazilla It does sound quite funny, but doesn't too much surprise me because of the Scottish heritage that's in the south :) I'd more than love sometime to see the US :) and thanks! :)

i'm currently studying at the university of glasgow .. the videos in this series are very helpful in helping me learn the local accent. Thanks mate !
joewandy 11 months ago
@joewandy Alright quality bud, hope you're getting on well there of course. And yeah if my videos in anyway help people who aren't originally from this city or country, then great! :) as I've been saying, it's just a way for people to understand and see the bigger picture of what perhaps a real Scot would sound like, baring in mind we don't all have the same dialect and accent. Cheers! :)
ScottMcK9 11 months ago
this is very helpful! i'm going to Glasgow this summer so it'll be nice to know what they're saying.
cornypickuplines 11 months ago
@cornypickuplines Well you can't go wrong mate, very friendly city and people will even slow up what they're saying, but yeah, for those that might have a bit of a strong accent, you might understand more :) and hope you enjoy your time in Glasgow.

hey i'd like to know what software you used to add the captions and that to your video :)
denholm10 1 year ago
@denholm10 The video software is what I just used that came with Windows 7, Windows Live Movie Maker. The thing is, I heard 'Windows Movie Maker' original from I think XP has more transitions. But yeah, Live movie maker you can definitely add captions :) which of course when you add the text, there's a transition at the top you can choose for it. Hope that helps :)
