  • i never seen sardines that big.

  • Alia, I'm not sure if I ever thanked you for this recipe. I never had fresh sardines before and now I'm so addicted. I make this recipe now at least once a week. Our local Farmer's Markets have American sardines year round and sometimes we get some smaller imported sardines. I had sardines in Morocco, and to me they're not that different from the American version, though smaller and more dense in flavor, but I guess I'm saying I still enjoy this recipe using American sardines.

  • sorry but in morocco small sardine fillets are the best to fry, as for the big ones like the ones u used they are usually grilled on charcoal or put in the oven cuz they are greasy, moreover u put a lot of oil in the pan, try to reduce the oil. thx for the videos.

  • My husband just made this tonight and it was so amazing. Thank you so much. For the fileting novice (like myself), he didn't de-bone it prior to cooking and used one, slathered it in the charmoula and stuffed it. So he didn't layer 2 together. After it was fryed, the entire spine and bones slipped right out. It was really easy.

  • This dish looks very appetizing, but what do you do with all that oil afterward? Do you save it to use again? If not, how do you dispose of it?

  • Nice video

  • Is this the dish known in Morocco as "mejujin" ("married" - because the fillets are coupled together)? I've heard of it but never tried it.

  • @HeyNonyNonymous

    exactly :-)

  • as i were in france my maroccain friend mjido made those, ill never forget...

  • Bravooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Can i do this with other fish fillets ?

  • I love using Sardines whenever it comes to grilling.

I would personally blend toasted cumin , salt , pepper , dried chillie and dried basil.

Basically wet the salt with lemon juice and water , marinate the fish for a few seconds and finally - grilled over good charcoals. Man that is delish.

  • i didn't try it yet byut it has very nice sound

  • tbakellah 3lik ,you are doing a great job.

  • Ive just caught a quarter ton of sardines and I will take your recipe with some extra chili I think and I will also be doing a ground bake under the bsand of my local beach!

  • you can actually grill them on the grill. they taste amazing and it's healthy.

  • to cupwithhandles the third one after the paprika is cumin .thank you

  • Hi dear. regarding your spice list at 0:59 , please write the 3rd one, just after paprika. Is it piumen? I tried to google various spelling but found nothing. Maybe I am hearing in incorrectly. Thank you for posting this. I'm going fishing for sardines

    (*^_^;)_o/━━━━━━>゚)))≫彡 ~ ~ ~

  • That's "Cumin" :-)

you can print the recipe directly from my website cookingwithalia(dot)com

  • Ah, thank you!

  • I love all your videos.keep them coming

  • No, she didn't actually. As mentioned somewhere here, you could bake it instead.

This is good stuff. I got some Sardines waiting for me to make, I'm back her to get some ideas for a side dish. Hey, I just thought of this. I would a nice addition to your videos if you include a suggestion for a salad or side dish to go with each dish. Not necessarily how to make it, just a suggestion then explain how to make another time...Just a suggestion. Thanks and good luck sister.

  • Thanks for the videos. You should replace choumicha. Your videos are very clear and concise. I love sardines with sharmoula. unfortunately I can't find fresh sardines in the US. I eat them only in Morocco. any advice where to find fresh sardines in US

  • Thank you for the kind words. You could find fresh sardines at any fish market or Whole Foods Market stores.

  • Just a warning for those in the US, I just found out that about 40 years ago a law was passed that allowed manufacturers to market any small soft-boned fish as a "sardine" in America. Real sardines come from Moroccan, Portuguese, or Mediterranean waters.. Make sure you get the real sardines, and don't be fooled by the label. This is my favorite Sardines recipe by the way; I tried making in a couple of times, it turned out OK but not like what i grew up eating in Agadir.

  • I didn't like sardines until I tried these in Rabat. Had them several times and sandwiches too.

  • i love this dish and Tbarkellah 3lik :) but isnt it better and healthier to use the oven, i remember bringing "lata" of sardines to the Public "ferrane" to be baked and it was tasting better then the fried ones

  • yes, I agree, it can be baked or barbecued and it's definitely healthier - but cooked this way is my guilty pleasure :-)

    to be consume moderately! lol!

  • I love fishes and I love Moroccan food.I love the way you make your Vdos look so easy to make and I can't wait to try to make this dish!Choukran Lia!(^_^)

    xoxo

  • one extra tip! you can actually barbecue these sardines if you want to cut down on calories and it's also a unique alternative for barbecue parties!

    cheers :-)

  • I don't like sardines, but I'm sure hubby would love it.

  • oh too bad! I was lucky I found them in the fish market in NJ. You can try this recipe with Merlan (whiting fish) even though it's bigger, just cut in half and it will taste soooo good!
