This guy had kahonas made of titanium just to ATTEMPT this song - the fact he pulled it off left everyone else who performed that night left writhing in his wake.
Come to show your support and love for Travis at our new FB Tribute page for the latest updates on Purple and tour dates on Facebook at Travis Meeks - The Multi-Talented Maestro Meeks
I don't care what anybody says...That's my boy! I don't know many musicians who would even have the balls to attempt that song and he's fuckin fearless w/ it. He's one of the best and most amazing musicians I have ever met and I love his punk ass lol
@chasboy77 travis did nail it, but your totally wrong about ian from the cult..i got the chance to see the doors with ian and if you closed your eyes, you would of sworn morrison was singing..
@jenveno well i don't have it on video but i have the audio for it and my account was just upgraded too allow me to post 15 min vids. i'll try and get it posted up its really good, i actually got a few diffrent recording from diffrent shows of him performing it, i'll post the best one i got.
@sawdoff1100 haha, well i guess i already posted a while back its in too part visit my channel and you will see it in my vids. Enjoy. also if you got an email i got several versions of this song i could share if you want, they are all live either solo or with his band.
This is amazing. And on a superficial and unimportant note, Travis, doll, grow your hair back! You were fine as fuck back in the day. Now you look kinda douchy. But kudos on the beautiful performance, which is more important!
@mblovesdotn I looked at recent pics and saw the short hair. Maybe he grew it back. i hope so! Besides, I owned that it was superficial as I said it. But hey, thanks for throwing it back at me. XP
Travis you arent Jim...but for your time you are in class with Layne, Jim, Kurt, and all the other great rockers of all time. You never followed rules and you still succeeded. Thank God for souls like yours that give us a break from the usual when we need it most.
OMG! you made it travis! no matter what you do the rest of your life, this is the greastest honor in my eyes that you could achive in rock and roll. i partied back stage with you at a venue in toledo back in 99, that was a helluva night! im the guy that had the girlfriend that couldnt make it because she broke her leg that day, you guys were inpressed because i came anyways, and signed a poster for her an gave me a backstage pass! i had a great time dude glad you made it to the top!
Travis did hell of a job with this. Like john said, this song is a bitch to do. Travis did this his way, and basicly said Im not a morrison wannabe. So sit back toke your doobie and let Travis and the doors take you for a ride with this song.
@bohs1984 Eddie V are Scott W went commercial. All about the dollar. Great artists, but TM still has that tortured, starving artist soul, man. He made it, but he is trying to make it.
hmm I think only Jim can sing this song and give it the true feeling the song has, for the way I see him he does nothing for the song except for singing, and maybe that's why Ray and Robby don't play the song anymore, this is the Jim's song, that's the way it is, anyway in this one the instrumentation is fantastic!!
Yes definetely a "beautiful haunting".....perfectly described. Meeks is a true artist. With that, comes my old adage......Your best asset is also your worst enemy. Love him. If he can cut through the darkness just enough to keep performing.......he will be golden.
Stellar performance by Travis Meeks! The Doors could never replace Jim but if you wanted to attempt to bring a pure tone that Jim himself would be pleased with then well here it is.
I hung out with travis in his louisville studio for a year and have been playing drums for 20 years , i have never been near anyone so talented , he sounds better in an empty room with just a guitar than even on the cds.
I have no doubt about it. I started playing the drums @ 8 years old. Then got into Production and engineering. Now starting next month I'm taking up Bass. I'm really envious of you. I wish I could sit with travis and tell him what his music meant to me. Yellow, Green , Red, I mean these albums changed me into something better. Thank you HereIamagain and DOTN for everything,.
God Travis what happened? You're so damn incredible. DOTN was the greatest blessing of Music I can think of. You are such an inspiration. Please come back and bless us with both your writing and voice again.
By the way, DOTN Green album, saved my life more than once.
If Buckethead is the most underrated guitar player out there, Travis Meeks is the most underrated singer out there. This guys was called to be the next Chris Cornell but something went wrong in his life and now he barely makes a penny. I hope we can hear from this guy soon, he's 31 so he can be back on track for sure.
The cool thing about Travis' performance here is that, unlike a lot of others who've stepped up to the plate, he didn't try to ape Morrison's voice or mannerisms. He just did his thing.
@pjperez oh yea, Travis should be the frontman and not Assberry(Astbury). I seen Doors of 21st Century in early 2000s and it was hard work watching them due to Assberry's acting and turning the band into its own tribute act. We left during Light My Fire :-| Wouldnt ever pay to see em again with Assberry is "front man" :(
@pjperez i agree with you. He sounds like himself and also he does sound like Jim in his own shit too. Ive seen Travis live and hung out with him he is an awsome dude. I have this on my music player and every time it comes on i almost think it is the origianl live.
Travis was easily the best vocalist out of all of the "greats" that were on stage that night with the remaining Doors. I was a huge DOTN fan at the time and I knew he'd be great but he totally blew me away. I was SOOOO proud of him when I saw this on vh1
better indeed . TRAVIS IS THE BEST TO EVER TOUCH AN ACOUSTIC. AND HIS VOICE IS MUCH MORE POWERFUL THAN JIMS. JIM WAS STILL GREAT . IT WAS JIMS SOUL THAT MADE HIM. GREAT. LSD TO LOL
I'VE BEEN A DOORS FAN FOR OVER 40 YEARS, TRAVIS DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB ON THIS SONG
