Peter Gelb must keep her at the Met, whether he likes her physical shape or not. On Feb 16, 2011, he sang 15 songs Kate Smith used to do, with a HEAD COLD and talked between all the songs. A NATURAL WONDER OF THE WORLD. In Japan she would be made a National Treasure

@mariasarda Oui, elle s'était présenté au concours d'entrée de l'Atelier lyrique (en 1996 par là... je l'ai entendue chanter une ahurissant Non più mesta... merci Mademoiselle, Elle n'a pas passé le premier tour... délirant. Question physique je pense...

En effet ! C'est fou quand même ! Son physique est imposant, OK, mais sur scène, être gros a plus de présence, d'aura. Rien n'a évolué là dessus, je vois. Moi aussi je me suis fait jeter aux auditions de ma seconde année au Choeur Régional Provence. Juste parce-que Michel Piquemal, le chef, s'est fâché avec la personne précédente. Injustice, injustice....

@mariasarda le second problème est, je crois, que les français ont du mal avec les grosses... voix! et en effet, la sienne est plus qu'imposante... On ne forme pas de grande voix en France...

Oui, c'est vrai, tu as tout à fait raison. En France, on aime les voix légères, aigrelettes et sèches, on n'aime pas la passion tant que ça, et l'opéra reste ici un plaisir petit-bourgeois. C'est trop dommage ! On n'aime pas non plus les voix particulières. J'ai entendu des filles du conservatoires d'Aix, elles ont toutes le même vibrato, et aucune personnalité... Moi j'aime Wagner, Verdi, Puccini...Les VRAIES VOIX !!!!!!

Becuase of her size, she will rarely get the chance to sing Carmen (though she did in Seattle). However, her voice is PERFECT for the part and her French is terrific. I would love to hear her in the complete role.
