Getting a turbine to turn in the wind is the easy part but getting it to produce power takes more engineering.
Get a small dc permanent magnet motor and attach it to the spinning shaft. It will cause the turbine to slow down when you attach the motor to a battery and you may get a few volts out of it above 5 mph winds.

looks good, im working on a VAWT setup right now a bit smaller, wondering if you know of any forums or anything to go to for help (mostly on the charge controler stuff)
so fast its so funny when you say thats fast

It looks like you cut two flaps on the side of the trashcan and bent them inwards to make two airfoils (one facing each direction). Am I right?

yes you are right .. I used a high speed rotary blade and cut out the foil to bend it back.

Is it self starting? Are there any pictures of it not spinning?

I got the pic,s . Clever, simple use of off the shelf material. Can you show pics of what bearings you use and where you got them?

jason..did you get the email pics I sent to you?
curtisdicke 2 years ago
where did you post the pic?
jsummer979 2 years ago
how did you construct this? That is SO fast.
It's moving so fast, there is no way to tell how it is put together. Please let us know.

will it handle a load, what kind of power are you making?

I used thrust bearings on the bottom of the shaft and a regular bearing around the shaft which was attached to the mast just below the turbine
curtisdicke 3 years ago
what kind of bearings were you using for this?
