I am just about to do my first maths GCSE and before last week i had never even heard of this, then out teacher started telling us about it and i didnt get it one bit. I watched this video and all of a sudden i can do these easily, thanks!!
@BleuWaterStones: Actually, not only is -2 an integer, it is a rational number with a denominator of 1. So therefore I would write - 2 as -2/1 and do the question just as I would any other fractional slope. I'm not really sure what your comment is driving at. Do you think I was avoiding integers? By the way, whole numbers are considered to be 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ..... in other words, not negative!
I love this video...awesome, my college professor should use your simple methods of teaching...simplify, simplify, simplify, because math is difficult enough for most to comprehend....you deserve to know your appreciated online here...oh what a relief it is to see this simpler methods used.
If you are using the slope formula (i have a video of this as well), make sure when you put it into your calculator that you use brackets, such as: m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1). Make sure the y-values are on top (numerator) and the x - values in the bottom (denominator)
no, because lets say Δy=1 and Δx=2 using the formula for slope m=Δy/Δx. the slope of of this line would be 1/2. but if we use m=Δx/Δy,
the slope would be 2 which would be much steeper. oh if you didn't know, Δ means change, so Δy would mean how y changed from the first point to the second, same with Δx, but how x changed
Wow! You are a terrific teacher!!! I am a brand new high school Algebra teacher here in MD and am taking basic Algebra in college to enable me to teach it. Your videos have been immensely helful! I also thought of a man running toward and mountain in order to climb a steep slope. The students enjoyed that imagery as well. I understand the concepts best from you than the book or tutors from college!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Let me understand this, you are a high school Algebra teacher and yet are still taking basic Algebra in College. As a math High school teacher in California, I really hope this is not the case.
I am a college student in a basic intro to algebra class for the 4TH TIME!! I've learne more from you in 6:00 min than I have in 6 hrs from my teacher. I just wish I could've found this earlier.
This is an excellent video!!!! I was having a hard time following the book I was reading about slopes. Your explaination so it is so easy to understand!! I'm going to frame a picture of slope man on my wall!! Great job!!!!

question: "Can we allow the formula of slope in this way: m = x2-x1/y2-y1? Why?
