  • Her voice is indeed wonderful, but it's too strong for this song.

All covers dissapoint me. I think Enya' voice is the only one that adapts properly to "May it be".

  • This is so beautiful......While I think the more Celtic style of Enya is perfect to fit the mood of the movie, I prefer Dame Kiri's version for a solo piece. It's just so beautiful and emotional and WONDERFUL!

  • Does anyone know if there is a recording available ? It is so beautiful.................

  • IT makes me cry ....shes so amazing...

  • beautiful music, the orchestra did very well and of course Dame Kiri sung so emotionally!! perfect performance

  • thank you ....thank you...

  • WOW, DAME KIRI TE KANAWA IT`S AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Ive never heard Sindarian sang so beautifully.

  • Just painfully beautiful.

  • Dear Kiri! I recognize her voice always immediately. Her singing opens my heart!

  • What an amazing singer she is.

  • I sat frozen listening this masterpiece.

    peace & beauty.

    bravo!

  • Wasn't Kiri taught by a teacher who so admired Deanna Durbin, she wanted to teach others to sing that way , But, I don't think Kiri sounds anything like Deanna Durbin, who had a magnificent voice.

  • @TOMSLASSIE Don't you think Kiri has a good voice also?

  • She is such a wonderful artist. Thank you for posting this!

  • WOW It’s beautiful

  • love you aunty kiri :)

  • I respect her amazing skill and natural ability, but this rendition is over-sung. Doesn't quite do it for me.

  • This is soooo bizarre. The original by Enya is soooooooo better. Its supposed to be soothing, but this just reminds me of a scary song from Sleeping Beauty.

  • A great operatic rendition! This is one of my favorite songs and I'm really annoyed at every cover version out there, except this one. Only an equally great artist like Dame Kiri can do justice to another great artist's work imho. =)

  • I am such a huge fan of Dame Kiri. But i bellieve this is not one of her best songs. Her voice is too powerful for this song.

I believe this song has to be sung in a soft 'CELTIC' manner. Dame Kiri has a very strong and powerful voice for that.

  • Goosebumps! Shes beautiful and her voice is just sublime.......people dislike her as a person but there is no denying that voice......

  • @novarone72 I know Kiri personally. Who dislikes her? Name them. She is a very genuine and nice person. I don't know anyone who dislikes her.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger she has her critics and many of them have written about her, saying she is diva-like and arrogant. I am not one of them as I have always been a fan. I am part Maori too and she did our race proud.

  • @novarone72 I think her "critics" are in the news media. These journalists like to cut anyone great down to size. They are the same people who also hated Princess Diana - Kiri and Diana were great friends. As for being diva like and arrogant, many journalists are arrogant and diva-like themselves. They lack any talent and hate the likes of Diana and Kiri, as they are jealous.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger I absolutely agree with you!

  • @novarone72 Thanks. :)

  • Compared to the original version, this one got too much vibrato and doesn't 'flow' that well.

  • @peterindistantland Vibrato occurs when a voice is well supported. Once has to force a straight tone vs let it come naturally.

  • I found this MARVELLOUS!!!!!!

    sHE IS SO GREAT!

  • I think as much of a beautiful performance this was, and as much of an amazing instrument Kiri has, I prefer this song sung with a softer tone, such as with Hayley Westenra.

  • I am a great fan of Dame Kiri, I have her ENTIRE discography to prove my admiration.

Eek! This is just horrendously dreadful to my ears. Opera singers should *not* sing pop / new age piece ill-suited for their creme-de-la creme voices.

  • roland. I cannot see why opera singers cannot do pop/new age piece. This song is definitely in the style of a classical piece anyway. The fact that it has been composed recently does not change that. It is not as if Kiri has changed the style of the tune significant, like some pop singers to do classical tunes like christmas carols.

I find it difficult to reconcile that you are a fan of Kiri's and find this "horrendous". However, if you find it so, I cannot change your mind. :)

  • I'm impressed...

  • I´m really a great fun of her, but unfortunately this song doesn´t match with her at all...

  • nothing to do with the original, but she's awesome, i didn't know her

  • I loved it. Thanks Kiri!

  • Kiri certainly knows how to produce a beautiful sound, but she always seem to struggle singing in English, particularly with the "E" vowel sound. Her operatic work is usually much easier to listen to.

  • I definitely understand what you're saying, and even agree with some of it; but her "E" vowel sounds fine IMO

  • ohhhh she sings with so much emotion....she is just amazing!wooow

  • great voice but not for this song, enya the best.

  • everyone says that because enya is the original; in reality, Dame Kiri blows Enya out of the water in this song. Don't get me wrong. I love Enya and her music. But have you heard her perform this live? It's good, but once again, nothing compared to Dame Kiri

  • actully, the original is sung by Annie Lennox... but I agree, Dame Kiri definately can't be compared to anyone else :)

    her singing is wonderful!

  • i think it's so beautiful. especially in the chorus part. her facial expression is just lovely.

  • I agree with you.

Dame Kiri has a beautiful voice and knows how to make a great sound... but this song was made by someone never likes to sing live... if you know who I am talking about lol

I love Enya but everybody knows she try her best to not sing in public... do I need to say why? lol

  • Man, she still sounds great!

  • nonono - that's just weird. It can't be denied that she's an amazing singer with a beautiful voice, but this was written for LOTR. If she subdued it a LOT more...kind of like Shore did with Fleming's voice...making it a part of the musical instrumentation it would be fine, but even as soft as she has it now it's too much.

  • I don't like this high, operatic version;

perhaps left to its original pitch and sung by a mezzo with careful ornamentation added.

Ms Te Kanawa is as beautiful as ever

  • Thanks. I understand where you are coming from. People get used to a style. However, Kiri's version is great, and it was nice of you to say what you did about her.

  • Listen to Hayley's or Lisa's versions and then this. There is no comparison. This is far higher quality of singing. Enya's style is set in much lower register. Both Kiri's and Enya's versions are of the highest quality.

  • beautiful.....just beautiful.....

  • ooohh .... goosebumps ... she is just magnificent [:

  • She can't stop moving me...

    This is so beautiful!! Thanks!

  • SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!!! My hairs are standing on ends... HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! BRAVA DAME KIRI!!!

  • Typical Kiri! Enya makes the original and Hayley another cover version. Then Kiri comes and raises the bar another 6 inches with this performance. It there anything that Kiri can't sing? It is also a great honor for Enya to have the likes of Kiri singing her music. It also demonstrates the high regard Kiri must have for Enya.

  • Crap. Lisa Kelly or Hayley westenra are a thousand times better.

  • Ptankster. Lisa Kelly or Hayley Westenra better than who? Kiri or Enya? I don't think so - in either case!

  • Enya better than Hayley Westenra or Lisa Kelly? You cannot be serious, or you know nothing of music. Have you heard Enya sing live? There is one example on YouTube. Enya would never make the "classical" lists in the UK with her albums like Westenra does, because of all the background synthesization on them. What you're hearing isn't her.

  • Enya rarely sings live, usually she lips. Why? because creating the chorus effect cannot be recreated live.

  • It is not crap. It is very precise, but such precision can -- to some people -- become boring. Some songs need a bit more of a "pop edge" to them. But ultimately it is just a matter of taste.

  • It's not much a matter of taste than a matter of musical knowledge and the ability to appreciate it.

  • Hayley's voice is like the buzzing of mozquitos, cannot even be called a voice.

  • where is this from?

can someone please message me with the info?

  • this song is form the lord of the rings altho they sing it different but its the same

  • Enya's music is another passion of mine. Though I think this belongs to Enya I love Dame Kiri's rendition. I don't think it's cheesy at all. Thanks for posting.

  • I LOVE this! I was going to upload it myself, but I don't know how. This was the first time I heard this song, and then listened to Enya's original afterward. Then I ran out and got the sheet music! She is singing it almost an octave higher than it was written. This is divine!

  • Forever Kiri, My Diva!
