  • how big is that tank?

    its big1

  • im getting a hermit crab in a week or so and was wondering, what is molting?

  • @corefinder

Molting is when a crab sheds his exo-skeleton (outer shell) and for about 3 weeks. Dont disturb little crabula and spray his area where he is molting.

    ~Allyissa

  • hi kyauch! i JUST got a crabitat and put my crabs in 2 days ago and they are doing AWESOME! my humidity is at approx. 76% but my temperature is aliitle bit low.

  • the day i brought him or her from petco i opened the opened the cardboard lid thing and a little while later he was on the top of the cardboard takehome box he escapes all of my play pens and temporary cages )=

  • one my hermit crabs is a escape artist

  • my hermit crabs have hurt intenas

  • they will grow back during the next molts don't worry to much

  • how much was the wire i want to get one

  • 1 hermit crab per 5 gallons so eather a ten or 15 gallon

  • not true

  • what size tank should i have for 3 hermit crabs

  • You change all thoses things... lol Like me I do it often.

  • pleaze help me ny hermit crabs arent climbing but they dig only sometimes. and i barley see them eat and in the moring i C no food that is moved. someone tell me wat 2 do

  • Is it humid and warm enough? Maybe you shoukld change their habitata a little , make it funner. You should give them fruits and veggies. They should have buddies. if you have all that they may just be the boring type or maybe... passing

  • the same thing is with me...but they are fine as long as you change their food daily... hermit crabs eat very little and only a bit at a time so maybe you just cant tell they are eating but they are=]

  • okay hemit craBS ARE MORE ACTYIVE AT NIGHT SO DONT WORRY

  • Your TAT looks nice. I was wondering if you knew that the crabs can climb very well, and without a lid they could crawl right out...and if you dont have a lid on it you CANT keep the humidity IN. Crabs need humidity to breathe because they breathe through "modified GILLS" without the humidity they will suffocate and with too much humidity they drown. just a FYI

  • Not to be rude, but if something is a natural instinct then you can't lose it. . .Nice vid though very informative

  • I love your set up. I only have 2, John & Yoko and I want more! I need a bigger crabitat tho. I swear that my two throw keggers at night. Every morning their tank is a mess! *LOL* They woke my daughter, whose room was upstairs in the attic, one night they were so noisy!

  • Thank you for your videos of your hermit crabs. I am setting up a 29 gallon aquarium for them. It's set up, but I'm not getting them for another month or so because I want to buy them a ton of climbing things. All I have is some hiding places, water bowls, sand 6"-8" deep, fake climbing plants, and a small second level (well, above the home made hiding places I added dirt layered for them to climb on to.

  • Kyouch, i got my crabs in a 10 gallon tank and i only got 2 crabs but i got like 1-2 inches of eco-earth in there and climbing stuff but it's kinda hard to put alot of stuff in a 10 gallon tank. and another thing you said that you can tell your crabs like the home if they move around? well mine don't move around much at all well only at night and thats not much. any tips.

  • try changing their substrate sometimes they enjoy sand... or maybe they dont like the food so they dont eat and aren't active... whatever the problem is you need to get to the bottom of it...

  • ShocknAwe2006 for your hermit crabs you can use just regular play sand and if u get it you have to wet it with salt water and that will be good for molting

  • great vid xD

  • what kind of dirt did you use, it kind of looks synthetic! Also, every pet store I go to ,looking for some good sand, all they have is the colored kind and I don't trust it. What is a good inexpensive kind of sand? I am working out of a 10 gallon tank with gravel right now, but I want to get that gravel out before they try and start molting!!!

  • She's using Eco-Earth, I think, you can buy it in a compressed brick. Then you soak it in water and it gets a lot bigger. And a good inexpensive sand is actually playsand, you can buy it at any Home Depot store.

  • Nice crabitat good job!!

  • thoses water pillows dont realy last long with my crabs.

  • nice tank lol do you name ur crabs after peeps on futrama lol i love that show and i love ur tank what size is it...

  • you have a nice crabitat, but you should add more climbing toys & maybe a few second levels, you definately have the space. you can make second levels using shower/bath caddy's, baskets, locker shelves, & some people make their own out of plexiglass.

  • this is awesome! But how much was your tank

  • Thats a really nicely set up tank! It gave me some good Ideas for the 29 gallon crabitat I am setting up!

  • Thanks! Everyone always asks where I get everything from. A good idea is to always check the Aquarium Isle or the Amphibian/Lizard decorations. They are actually perfect for the crabs because it lets them climb. Only thing is- watch out for anything that may have holes they might climb into and not be able to get out of. I had one get stuck once and had to cut the poor guy out of the climbing decor!

  • Your crabs are so cute:) I Just got set up with a 20 gal tank this eve. I was in a 10 gal but I wanted to get more crabs and give them way more space to play and such. I love your Terrarium!

  • I live in an area of which most people have mammal's have pet's. I might get a hermit crab (if I can find where they can sell) And I don't know where to buy terrarium supplies. Like, climbing stuff and a tank.

  • you can get most crabs from petsmart or other pet stores but they tend to be more expencive you can also get them from local stores and tend to be cheaper and for the supplies i have a plain 10 gallon fish tank and for stuff for them to climb on the stores should have stuff or you can use rocks and stuff from outside but you should boil them in hot water before you put them in (dont forget the let it dry) so if weather or other animals did anything to it its safer for them

  • It depends on how well you take care of them, or if they are living in the wild. They have been known to be as old as 100 years old. Some 90 year old lady had one as a pet when she was 10 and had it until the day she died! It's amazing what some people don't know about them. :)

  • @kyauch i have hermit crabs to there so cool and fun and love the climmb when i put them in the middle of the cafe and mist them they go wild and climb up everything in the cage

  • is that eco-earth? (and the other part is sand I see)

  • ok umm i just got some hermit crabs therere so F kool i love them but it seems they dont eat and they sleep alot!.... so yea so i kinda need help , i have 3 but one is very shy and doesnt like comming out of its shell and the other 2 love cralling on my hand :):): so yea HELP :)

  • Hermit crabs don't eat a lot, so sometimes it seems as though they aren't eating anything. Although, right before they molt they will chow down like pigs! :) And a lot of times you don't see them eat because they tend to eat at night time.

They all have different personalities. Some are shy and others hyper. I try to take the shy ones out and get them used to being around you. (hold them even if they don't come out, they eventually get used to it and come out more often!)

  • thank you :):) ill make a video soon of mine so u can see and why aremine a greyish coulour and some on here and red?? or pink

  • love ur crabs tank. but i need some help. my 4 hermies never climb any more and i am wondering what will get them into it again

  • Yeah, mine get slow sometimes too. Sometimes I think they get bored from the same old setup in the tank. What I have found is that I need to keep switching thier climbing objects around. Take some things out, put new things in. Then take and switch the shells around that you have in there. I do this every week with the shells and every 2 weeks with the climbing things. Move things around for a change of scenery and add new toys/rocks/shells and they should boogy around in no time..

  • i like ur big tank its cool

  • how do u get there poo out of the tank its realy big and how often do u clean it

  • I use a sand/dirt sifter to get that out. You can sift every 3 weeks as long as you pick up scraps of food they cart off. Then after 3-4 months, depending how piggy they are- I take the crabs out into an isolation tank, and scoop out the old dirt with a garden shovel and put new dirt in.

  • i can tell that u realy like ur hermit crabs i only have 2 and i have a 5.5 galon tank

  • how do u clean that tank its huge

  • thats a really nice crabitat! youre so lucky you can have a terrarium like that.

  • wow cool terrarium

  • Wow

Last night my hermit crab lost his leg

  • If you have a good set-up for him where he can molt his leg should regenerate during his next molt. I adopted a crab from someone who was getting rid of thiers and one of the crabs was missing a leg. During the next molt he grew a new one!

  • Oh and...

Before she lost her leg last night

She already lost her leg before

    after she grew it back

    she lost ig again

    its kinda weird

  • hmmm..that is wierd.

Are there any other crabs in there besides that one? Maybe someone is picking on that one and fighting with him?

Or is there anything that he might accidentally cut his leg on that is sharp in there?? I would look around and see if there is anything sharp in there or if there is anything his leg might get caught on. Poor little guy!

  • Ya i have some more

but they dont pick on her

they just are usally on the climbing wall

    and no

my tank is just sand and soil so

  • Good. ^^

  • Do you spray the tank? That's how you should keep in moisture and humidity.

  • yes, that's what it says on #3 that I have on my list.

    3) Mist w/water once daily- but not too much.

  • ok i have to know a couple things... does a crabitat really need humidity? ive had my crab for 7 months without humidness in the tank and he seems fine... can i leave two crabs in a small tank together?

  • Oooh yes. It is very important. Hermit Crabs have what they call dry gills. They start theier life in the ocean and then move to shore. Even though they no longer use them per say, they still require humidity. It can be very painful for a hermit crab to have dry gills, and they can die. But it makes sense - any creature with gills needs moisture, without it- they are a fish out of water...

  • ok, so that means i have to buy the humidity machine? i dont know why they didnt have one in the mall's tank where i bought him

  • I do not have a humidity machine.

    1) You need to have a humidity gage and temperature gage. Humidty should be kept around 70-85% Temp around 70F-80F.

    2) The substrate does all the work. Use T-Rex Forest Bed Expandable Substrate. It naturally holds moisture.

    3) Mist w/water once daily- but not too much.

    4) Have a glass lid, but keep it open a crack. (a pen should fit in the crack.)

    Adjust accordingly..misting a little more/less, or opening the lid more/less...it's easy! :)

  • do they like to climb or no?

  • Oh yes! Mine climb up the tree set ups I have and in the branches and the hanging plants. I've even come into the room and they have magically climbed up along the top of the terrarium! (even though there was 4 inches or more between the top and the next climbing object.) They are VERY skilled climbers and very strong. They climb coconut trees in the wild...

  • thank you

  • Nice set up for the herms :)
