Well the thing is, is the bad graphics are more jarring now. Nothing has definition. Just like in a dream, you're at the mercy of the dream itself. It can take you places, and it can tell you things, but the same dream means 2 different things to 2 different people.

If you've ever experienced lucid dreaming, you might get what I'm talking about. The only way to tell if you're dreaming is to have that lack of definition to reality. For a game about dreams, this makes immersion almost better, IMO

That being said, neither does LSD and Shrooms UNLESS you have a bad trip, THEN THERE IS A PROBABILITY that you can hurt yourself, so your on there a bit about that. I've done shrooms once and had an amazing trip, but I was lucky that time, I'll try not to do it again just in case I'll have a bad trip the next time

It takes about thirty hours minimum of sleep deprivation for hallucinations to occur. I know because I've had sleep deprived hallucinations. Never pleasant when you have actual phobias.

I can think of several ways of how it could have been done, but chances are half of what I assume is wrong. Overall, it does seam to rely dominantly on random number generators with the stages mapped out based on the numbers generated. Using random number generators is pretty simple, so it was probably easy for the programmer after deciding which random numbers did what.
