  • I'm Rick James Bitch!

    ManyU

  • Beautiful rendition~! A tragic end to an amazing performer, musician and creative genius. He was one of a kind, but couldn't escape his tortured soul. RIP Rick. you are missed.

  • I actually prefer the more reggae beat of this song but then again, after I went to my 1st dance club, that just happened to be a reggae club a friend picked out & we went out in a group, I was hooked from that moment. It's like nobody can screw up dancing to reggae; it goes right thru you. My DH couldn't crew up reggae dancing & he doesn't dance-altho, for the 1st time in 25+yrs, he FINALLY danced w/me for the 1st x @ our oldest daughter's wedding last yr,He can't dance but I luv'd every minute

  • An underrated singer ....

  • @marconbouw I disagree. Rick James WAS not an underrated singer. Far from it. You just dont know!

  • @DullardGuy here in Holland he wasn't that famous or played much on the radio , and I think worldwide he should have been more famous as well ...

  • wow impressed me with the voice!

    sweeter than wiiiiiiiine

  • I have this on audiotape! Its a shame that it hasn't been re-released so we can snatch it up on line, at least. Thank you for this post.

  • many of you are asking where this came from. From my memory this was a limited edition MTV special dance mix CD with various artists. I remember seeing this on MTV (back when they were about music) and being blown away. Sometimes they played it at clubs.

  • @impudentdomain I have the CD it's on. It was called "Rock, Rhythm, Blues", and it's a rare, FANTASTIC various artist project of 80s R&B stars doing doo-wop era classics! It also has Chaka Khan re-invenitng Peggy Lee's "Fever" (amazing), plus El DeBarge ("Goodnite My Love"), Howard Hewett ("Ten Commandments of Love"), Michael McDonald "For Your Precious Love", Pointer Sisters ("Mr. Lee"), etc.etc. All produced by Richard Perry. If you see it anywhere, GRAB IT!

  • @SmoothCinnamonX you should send me a link (mp3 or wav) of this pretty please. Cannot get a copy of this song anywhere

  • Kind of look like Morris Day.

  • search rick james fan club on facebook, and join the group

  • I love this!!

  • Rick James had much talent! He always moved around on stage a lot when younger, very energetic.

Then you see how the drugs took a toll on him in his later years,he was bloated with slurred speech in interviews later on.It was sad---but hey he played the bad boy role in life to the fullest,he loved the excess and he must have done something right to die in his sleep.I hope i die that way.

Rick James ruled in his prime! I love all his music!

  • THIS IS RICK JAMES AT HIS FINEST !!! HIS GREAT FALSETO VOICE AND HIS TALENT IS A SURE TREASURE,, THIS IS WHAT HE SHPULD BE REMEMBERED FOR AND NOT THE STUPID CHAPPELL SHOW QUOTES.. RICK WOULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE SUCCESS IN THE EARLY 60,S IM SURE .. I WISH HE WOULD HAVE DONE A ALBUM OF MOTOWN CLASSICS AND STANDARDS THATS FOR SURE !!!

  • I though it was a Morris Day video at first!

  • If you compare this to any other stuff that Rick was doing in the late 80s, this in any form is very different. Yeah, it's a cover, but his style of singing, the production, the sound of life in him... everything. This sounds just simply great, like he was back in his greatest form. You were the bomb!

  • REALLY AWESOME... gr8 number

    RIP @)-}-----

  • This is incredible - I've never seen or heard it before, and I consider myself a big Rick James fan, and have all his earlier albums. This song eluded me until now, so thank you so much for sharing it.

  • Outstanding performance, Odinthorsen. Rick did a fantastic job with this classic and it seems he was having a *magic moment* himself on that stage. I, too, miss him dearly. Thankfully, his voice will live on forever. ~~

  • Man. Rick look like Morris Day in this video.

  • i can't tell you how much i love this freakin song, thank you!! feeling kind of down today, aunt just died yesterday, another person that gave me my love for music, he is on fire in the video, he is onnnnnnnn!!!!!!!

    hersexyness818

  • Loodiebin, I'm a week late with this reply but I'm sending a message of peace and comfort to you and your family. And that love of music you were given was a priceless gift. ~~

  • Thank you sooo much for that, going through some trying times, as alot are these days, that made me feel good, the same to you, music is my 1st love and always will be, it does erase barriers or race and I am a 42 year old white woman, but I have always had an appreciation mostly for soul music, I grew up in a diverse neighborhood which was to my advantage, to learn to appreciate different people and music, not in spite of our differences but to embrace them!!

  • Quote: "He is on fire in the video, he is onnnnnnnn!!!!!!!" I couldn't have said it better myself! ;)

  • look at rick, love the hair, he is so freakin good, love his music

    hersexyness818

  • Rick James (1948-2004) R.I.P.

  • a diverse talent...He will be missed.

  • does anyone know where i can get a copy of this song???

  • you will probably have to record it to cd or something. I don't think this song is available on any cd albums. Its a classic - once only - i think.

  • I finally got it on vinyl and am in the process of having it converted to CD! Yeah!!!!

  • You can by the vinyl single off eBay and then record it to CD or onto your media player. I have been looking for it too but this seems to be the only option.

  • there are cds available on various sites for rare music. i cant believe no one has ripped one yet. there is a 7 minute version of this song too. if anyone does eventually get it then be sure to get it out there.

  • This video came out in the early 80s, and I taped so many of my favorites. I have a huge collection today that I don't get to see anymore. I loved this song, the only one I will ever love by Rick James. Of course tonight he isn't Rick James.

  • This is GREAT!!

    I never saw this before!!

    Thanks for posting!!

  • Rick James: This video performance displays the richness of a great artist. This sytle

pre-dates Punk Funk and Rick is kicking it pretty good. This is what a pro can do with good material. I like most of Rick's material

during his hey day but when you go into stuff

like this and most of the Rhapsody CD the real

flavor of The Rickster comes to the front.

Where ever you are Rick James, God Bless You.

  • great comment jspoon1 :)

  • Rick James = Too Cool.

  • Wow I was looking for this video forever. Reminds me of when I was a kid copying videos from MTV on my vcr when they actually played videos. It really doesnt get better than this. Thanks for posting, you put a big cheezy smile on my face!!!

  • This my order of preference...Drifters...Rick's and Jay and The Americans..all sound great..

  • What a nice classic; but this song (and video) was initially very rare to find. Tanx for the posting.

  • MAGIC vocals! RIP & thanks for the great music you left us you are in our thoughts always.

  • a VERY good version of this song, except i really don't like that 80s synthesiser in the background.

Never heard Rick sing a classic song, but it sure was a treat. Thanks for posting this

  • jay an the americans own this song, but i give to rick he was great.

  • i love this version, and wow, rick james really owns this one.

  • I also have it on cassette and CD pretty good songs on it.

  • super freak!

  • I have this song on cassette. It is Warner Brothers label which I'm not sure exists anymore and it is called Rock, Rythmn & Blues. Other artists are on it as well.

  • i can't find this version of this mix "this magic moment/dance with me " anywhere!!

  • im looking hard for it too

    great song

  • I like it all except for that loud 80's drum machine style clap snare.

  • The first song is This Magic Moment by The Drifters.

    Excellent song, excellent cover.
