Honestly, dont get your hopes up on the CGM. It is all flash with no real benefits currently. Readings are never accurate. They are always late, the wireless system loses signal often, and you have to manually check your blood just as often to keep the system dialed in for it to even be close to accurate. I have one, and boxed it back up that same week, waste of time.
Thanks, man! I'm a type 1 (41 years) who is getting ready to get my first pump and CGM. I'm watching your videos to get the scoop on the Minimed Paradigm and CGM. VERY helpful. Thanks!
My daughter is looking at the ping, and not sure about the CGM. How much trouble is it to carry all this with you? She's 12 but has been super so far with the equipment for shots, but I'm wondering how difficult to keep p with this monitor in addition to the pump. I don't want her to look like she's wearing a tool belt. Whats the distance on the dexitrom?
We are lucky in the UK, all diabetes stuff is free, on NHS i have never been on a cgm device, and dont want to, what is the point of having to wear one at all times when i can jab myself in 5 seconds? doesnt hurt either...
How you doin! I am a 29 year old diabetic that has been diabetic for 25 years.I have the medtronic minimed paradigm 722. It has a cgm device, but it os a real pain!!!!!!!My question is if you have to go through the pain of inserting the device, why do you have to test your blood the same amount of times? What is the point of the pain? I am very active, and it always hurts by the 3rd day of wearing. I also have a hard time seeing the small screen.
The Freestyle Navigator it by far the best. Ive been on it since December '09. My numbers once its up and running are never off by more then 2%. You get the option to wear the sensors on your arms and thats a huge plus. I basically told my insurance company, "either pay for the sensors or get ready for more doctor visits and DKA episodes." The gave in and now cover me in full. I don't even need to go to my doctor to make adjustments. I just upload the info the the computer and send it over.
I see what you are saying. I agree to some of it. The nice thing about CGMS is that it takes some worry out of the equation of what your BGs are doing. So to be able to see a trend line and the rate of change of your BG helps me feel more confident during the day, then having to rely sometimes on how I feel if I am not testing that second. Thanks for watching my Vids and commenting. You add value!
@AllAboutMagic The Navigator is every minute. The reasoning is to help establish a trend 10 times faster be cause you need 3 points of info to establish a trend. If you get readings every 5 min, that takes a whole 15 min to get a trend going. The Navigator is just 3 min. Honnestly Id like to know whats going on when I am in the 30s what my glucose levels are doing ASAP. Not having to wait 15 min.
Hi, great video, i am a type 1 diabetic. i am looking into getting an insulin pump / continuous gm in the UK. My question is this, if they can program the pump to squirt insulin if you go high why don't they program it to squirt a glucose solution if you go low. What are your thoughts? do you have a site
Hey my man! Thanks for the comment. YOU HIT THE NAIL on the head!!! That is the key. They are trying to do just that with pumps, it's the future. Problem is that with CGMS glucose results are 15 minutes in lag. They need to be faster! Because if your insulin is taking 45 minutes to start working, then your BG was only good over an hour ago! Plus the insulin need to be faster and not last as long in the system. So there are some advances that still need to be made.
great vid! One thing- I wear the medtronic sensor on my arm. I know I'm going "illegal" here since they didn't do FDA clearance on that site, but I get great readings- and don't use up- as you put - valuable real estate.
I have the dexcom. There is a video on how to insert one that I did that might give some light on the question too. The sensor is not a big deal, its small doesn't really get in the way, after a few days my site might get sore so I change it. I dislike the size of the Monitor more. It's bigger then a cell phone and the case is not the best. The fact that you have to have the monitor always on you to get the readings can be hard depending on the situation.

CGM is kinda like twitter in my opinion. It's nice to know sometimes but I don't need an update every 5 minutes! :P

Do you have a CGM? If so, is it annoying to wear under shirts and especially jackets when your out and about?
