That's heartbreaking to hear that ANY parent would do such a thing. It's reprehensible, and I think we know who to blame for their attitudes and beliefs which have inculcated our society at large. As history shows, where religious dogma goes - so goes prejudice, bigotry, pain, misery, suffering, division, death, and destruction.
@michaelsavageisgreat you need a punch in the face. seriously. You must be so insecure with yourself that you can't just accept that there are people out there who are different than you. How exactly does it affect you if there are gays and lesbians in the world? Why do you care if there are?
is just funny how my dad says he loves me but he hurts me everytime he makes an homophobic joke... or he says homophobic stuffs.. or when he watches homophobic religious programs... or worse... that time he told me he would rather prefer me been dead than gay.
Guess what dad? I am a lesbian... and even though you are a homophobic jerk I still love you and prefer you alive as who you are. I do love you dad.
@xShinyBlueGuitarx maybe cuz they are stupid... that happens... but we gotta try to understand, some people are born stupid, some other become stupid cuz of an accident, others cuz alcohol or drugs abuse.. I feel sorry for stupid people... poor people...
This is such an important message! I was getting a bit upset that everyone was focusing on bullying and sexual identity and self worth issues are killing way more young people. It is hard for some young people to believe they can be loved or accepted because of little things they might have heard their parents say or because of religious beliefs and then there is our society too, and pier pressure, so all young people need to know without any doubt that they're loved and accepted. LOVE THEM
@privatejordy Well said! As important as the anti-bullying campaign is (which no one should dispute) issues such as the ones expressed in this video are equally vital, if not moreso. Those of us who can relate to the torment that many of our LGBT youth are experiencing due to religious beliefs, society, peer pressure & failing to receive the support that they rightfully expect from family recognize how important this message is. EVERY child deserves to know they are LOVED UNCONDITIONALLY! Thx!
@Gamec0ckGrad Yes it is critically important that every child knows they are beautiful, special, loved and accepted, and one thing I was trying to say was, Children Listen and Observe, so parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and family friends all need to be aware and careful. I never heard my father use a derogatory term regarding anyone's race, religion or sexuality and I feel blessed that I was raised right and taught well. Teach your children well and keep them safe!
@Gamec0ckGrad the support expected not only from family, but from the goverment... and sometimes we even expect support from God, eventhough religions are the first ones that cruxify us... some of us still expect of God.
@livin4jesus0225 yes.... but if getting in legal trouble is the only thing stopping these parents from kicking their children out (which is the case all too often), the life is going to be a living hell for the kid anyways. Then, the kid may just run away, and that's still homelessness. That is why acceptance is needed, not just tolerance in the "just putting up with it because we have to" sense of the word.
@VictoryFire88 That's what Cyndi has been trying to do in NYC. She has been trying to get funding for a house so gay runaways have somewhere to go. She gave the money she won on the "Celebrity Apprentice" to the fund for buying the house. I believe the True Colors Foundation is working to get the house up and running and they would like to do the same thing in other cities.
I'm in awe of Cyndi's efforts and appreciate all the support all these wonderful human beings are giving our youth. The sons and daughters (gay sons and lesbian daughters and bisexual and transgendered children) of heterosexual parents are all OUR children wether we like it or not. Stop the HATE, stop HATING, stop the HATERS from harming another human being because they are different. *-------LOVE always.-------*
i came out to my mom at 14 and im thankful she accepted me pretty quickly....now she actually tries to talk about guys with me and set me up on dates but its still good lol
Thank you Cyndi for all you do to edify the planet. You are a rare jewel in the wheat field. Hm...? Have you ever thought of having a reality series profiling your work in human rights? It would bring much needed attention to the cause and we'd all get more of that Cyndi tasty goodness!!! I have just launched a nonprofit 501c3 to bring my singing classes to kids at risk in the Los Angeles area and would relish any advice in my efforts. Causing transformation one sweet soul at a time!
I thank all of you for your support for this epidemic we CAN END. I cannot imagine throwing my child out on the streets, and yes he is gay. I had trouble coming to grips with the idea, but nothing changed the fact he is my son. My flesh, my blood and I love him with all my heart. My heart aches for those thrown away by their own families. Stop being silent, stand up and make people pay attention! GIVE A DAMN. Thanks Cyndi and all of the stars participating. You are wonderful.
@kidmiah thank you for accepting your son and for realizing that being gay is NOT a choice no matter what lies the right wing politicians and so-called religious leaders may say. You are clearly a good person. Your son is very lucky to have you.
A big thank you to all the celebrities who gave time to do this video. I believe Pete Wentz is straight and it seems that straight men are the hardest to get involved in a campaign for gay rights so I very much respect Pete was man enough to join our campaign. Where are all the other so called straight men who say they support us - come on Brad Pitt, Jack Black, Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Jon Stewart & Taye Diggs. Just half an hour of your time can save lives & educate others. Step up !
I was homeless due to various circumstances when I came out, but the biggest was having no help when the hard times happened, feeling like I couldn't no longer turn to my parents. It's good for people to see and hear that we're just people who suffer and struggle like everybody else, but with a little love and support can live happy too. :)
I was out on the streets, down on my luck, and homeless when I was 17, I traveled for 4 years. I met Cyndi Lauper when I was 19, her words changed my life forever. I LOVE YOU CYN! I give a Damn!
Im glad my parents love me no matter what
