this is my favorite second movement of all time. it's so piercingly beautiful, i cry every time i hear it.
though i have to be honest, those random pictures of that actress really annoy me because i just feel like they don't do the beautiful piece justice. i'd rather look at gil shaham.
but then again, maybe that's because i'm female :)
at about 5:14 the soloist is totally flat. my eyeballs went in two directions. don't get me wrong i totally love the rest of the piece and the interpretation. the actor is cute but kind of distracting. i'm not really looking to trigger my hormones cuz usually i get alot more from this piece than a hard on =P
On ne voit pas ce que vient faire cette succession de photos dans cette vidéo. Heureusement, cette partition sublime nous amène à fermer les yeux pour l'apprécier encore davantage...!

anyone wanna explain to me why there's a slideshow of pictures of some actress that seems to have no relevance to whats going on in the music? i ain't complaining, shes pretty hot, just a little confused
@happypeanut11 My question exactly. I'm female and NOT floored by this woman's beauty like a lot of men .perhaps other women too...I LOVE THIS CONCERTO by Barber though..I'm an amateur violinist and recently played in an orchestra with a 13yr old prodigy playing this piece...PHENOMENAL...listen/view all 3 mvn't of Alina Ming Kobialka playing with the Parnassus Symphony ..1st & 3rd mvnts this young lady sounds LIKE pure divine inspiration ..unexplainable
Gil Shaham does a beautiful rendition of this piece..since I am a lady the pictures don't do that much for me :) but she seems to be attractive :) I would rather look at Shaham...
I've seen her in two movies: "Wristcutters: A Love Story" (about two suicides who meet and fall in love in the suicide afterlife)and "Rules of Attraction" (about love-starved college kids).

I don't know this woman but she looks like she could read your mind with those eyes of hers. (The music is nice too.)

@Vanzetti1936
She's no more flat in intonation than many soloists get from time to time. It's just a few cents for a couple lines and a bit from time to time.
The orchestra doesn't have the best overall intonation. Perhaps she would have had more exact intonation had the orchestra been tighter.

My error there. I hadn't heard of Gil Shaham and figured it was the woman in the picture.

something happens to the recording pretty much half way through it goes flat....

I thought the violin concerto was lost or destroyed by barber himself.
